  1. I threatened to make a simple MP scen over the weekend, and finally got to it today. It is available on the Stratsims server (72.21.228.42 port 14343) for the next few days. There is a 2-player variant and a 3-player variant though the 3-player is the 'correct' scenario, the two player just has one side ripped out. Each player has two ships, a sub, and a helo or two, the goal is to sink two opposing ships and one sub. You do need 3.7.3.0 to play this one. The scenario uses ANWDB for those who are interested in such things. Herman came out to try the two player version with me, Dale also had a quick look at it but I begged out of the second confrontation to step back and give the Player 3 side helos as I forgot that in version 1. Thanks for the games guys. Oh, Herman throunced me thoroughly. I took out his Spruance but he got my Leahy almost immediately and later took out my Spru and Sturgeon with masterful strokes, and he didn't even have helos! I believe outside of the Leahy hit that I fired first on well localized contacts and still I bit it big time. There is one very scared whale out there too, I nearly dropped a Mk46 on it but thankfully rechecked the ID after plopping a number of sonobuoys on it. The scenario is quite quick to play, a few three-player encounters would be great!
  2. Hmm, the forward aspect view shots make me start liking the JSF a little more, from the rear it looks like an F-22 with a weight problem
  3. Thanks Darren, we don't have the biggest H3 crowd here as yet, but I appreciate your posting the message anyway.
  4. Or a release candidate if you ask Uncle Poon, either way it went from release to beta in record time . Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking 3.7.3 beta/RC/release for a spin and hopefully get it on the server soon thereafter.
  5. Hehe Pete, for those of you with clear conscience and lazy fingers, the voting is halfway complete time-wise, head on over to http://www.harpoonpages.com/poonervote/pooner-Intro.php and vote. If you have any difficulties, contact me at pooner@harpoonpages.com and I'll help you get your vote entered. The dually signed copy of Red Storm Rising has returned (signed by both Clancy and Bond!!!). Pete, I'll try to push you towards Darrel Dearing on the lifetime vote. Look at every computer Harpoon version you have, chances are you'll find Darrel's name in there somewhere For the 2006 Pooner there are so many choices, is it David Heath from Matrix for helping keep the dream alive, Jan-Paul for verifying, testing, tolerating, Frans just because he will feel really bad if he doesn't get a few votes, Herman for bringing so many new players into the fold, ... As an administrative note, there are currently three partial votes entered, I'll be attempting to contact those voters tomorrow (the initial verification happened but the voters have not returned to actually place the vote). Thank you for voting!

Haven't heard of them, do tell please
  7. Somewhere in IRC or a forum or mailing list a number of months ago someone mentioned their own private DB of fanciful platforms. I would be most interested in hearing from you and possibly working together. My fictional DB obviously is not progressing as quickly as I would like but I do still want to offer it and get your platforms out there for public consumption as well. If you are out there, or anyone else is interested, please contact me. Thank you!
  8. Lots of nice sounding stuff there. Most of it I like outside of the laser weapon, sounds good and all but may be scrambling a bit for any and all funding? Now if we just had more of the B-2s over which to spread the cost. Oh well, haven't used B-2 too much in Harpoon, guess I need to do more of that to explore options.
  9. Please come vote everyone, while it is only day 3 of voting there are only 9 votes so far vs a few hundred people who have viewed the voting threads and not voted
  10. It has been mainly a Harpoon 3 kind of year, both of my choices for 2006 Pooner awards exert much of their effort (but not all) on the H3 side of the fence. For 2006 Pooner I chose Jan-Paul Köster. His support work, bug verification and ranking, and his work on the AGSI wiki bring him my vote. For Lifetime Pooner I chose Darrel Dearing. He has programmed the Harpoon games off and on for a very long time, efficiently, with skill, and with an ability to sideskirt the nasty public confrontations some of the rest of us just cannot always let pass. In my opinion he has supported the game in the spirit of a lifetime Pooner.
  11. HarpoonPages invites you to vote for the 2006 Pooner and Lifetime Pooner. The big news is that this is the 10th Anniversary of the first Pooner vote (Tom Wenck won back in 1996 for his pfedit program). Thanks to yours truly, Don Gilman, Larry Bond, Chris Carlson, and Brad Leyte (Pooner 2005) the award this year includes adoration & thanks of the Harpoon community and more. The 2006 Pooner will receive a first edition hard cover copy of Red Storm Rising, in Very Good condition (if not fine but I'm no book dealer) signed not only by Tom Clancy, but Larry Bond as well! The 2006 Lifetime Pooner will receive a copy of Dangerous Ground signed by Larry Bond and Chris Carlson! To vote and view the past winners, visit http://www.harpoonpages.com/poonervote/pooner-Intro.php If you have any difficulties voting, please send an e-mail to pooner@harpoonpages.com with your name, e-mail address, and your vote for Pooner and Lifetime Pooner and I will enter them manually. Please post this message on any forum/list/newsgroup where Harpoon players reside so that we can bring in as many votes and cudos as possible to those who sustain Harpoon.

HarpoonD has checked in on IRC a couple of times looking for a game of MP, let's see if we can give him some action eh? On related topics, the Canadians are taking over, HarpoonD hails from that strange and foreign land 200 some miles North of me... Welcome HarpoonD
  13. Get it at: Harpgamer HC Scenarios EC2003 NACV TGPCIVIL 2nd War Between the States EC2003 Style AN EC2003 NACV HARPOON SCENARIO Anthony Eischens sysop@tgp.net MISSION BRIEFING The Northern United States finally called for an end to the Southern Drawl. This announcement was followed shortly by an embargo of pop flowing North from the South. As a matter of common understanding war broke out immediately. Hence the Second War Between the States began. Technicalities Affecting GamePlay: This scenario was designed to be played from either side and as such creating a credible AI threat is very difficult. Due to the author's attitude of ASW being only a sidebar to a good air battle you may not face determined subsurface attack. They are out there though! Each side begins with a solid base set of aircraft, ships, and subs. Beyond that is the possibility of a rather large assortment of additional units and positioning so the scenario should have moderate replay ability. Total victory is achieved by floating your CV within roughly 100 miles east of the OPFOR naval type installation (aka the anchor) and destroying OPFOR's CV(N). OPFOR bases need not be destroyed for total victory. Minimum victory is achieved through destroying all three of OPFOR's bases. Good luck, Commander. Clear the seas of your tasteless US pop or Coke drinkers.
  14. There is something just magical about the aggressor role isn't there? Tiny F-5 and A-4 planes thumping F-14 monsters over and over again, a little AIP sub sinking a CVN over and over again, ...
  15. Version 2006.01 of the Database Comparison Utility (dbComp) has been released. Get it at http://www.harpgamer.com under the Tools section. This utility creates a listing of changes between two versions of a database. Please submit your suggestions to this thread. dbComp is a very old tool that can't fully compare the current databases, help in getting it up to current is appreciated.
  16. Being election day in the USA I thought it was time to remind everyone that the annual vote for Pooner and Lifetime Pooner is approaching. Voting will begin December 1st. The big news is that this is the 10th Anniversary of the first Pooner vote (Tom Wenck won back in 1996 for his pfedit program). While the details are not in place yet, the 2006 winner will likely get some kind of physical reward and measure of thanks above and beyond the electronic award and thanks of the community. For more details and to view the past winners, visit http://www.harpoonpages.com/poonervote/pooner-Intro.php Please post this message on any forum/list/newsgroup where Harpoon players reside so that we can bring in as many votes and cudos as possible to those who sustain Harpoon.
  17. HarpGamer is now running a H3 ANW 3.10a Server 24/7. HUD3 1.5.0 is the database at the moment, feel free to request a switch to ANWDB. Server (put in resolve name box): eischens.dyndns.org Port: 14342 If the server does appear to crash, chase me down at #harpgamer on irc.stratsims.com or e-mail me at sysop@tgp.net. There is a link to Java IRC client at HarpGamer If you want to see scenarios added/removed/swapped out please e-mail me the scenarios in a single zip file to sysop@tgp.net and I'll make the changes. Make sure to tell me which database the scenarios are for! Tips on getting a successful game: Enable Windows 2000 compatibility mode for Harpoon3Client.exe (see screenshot)
  18. Just finished playing (and winning ) this excellent scenario. Thanks Akula for a fun piece of work! The North Koreans certainly have numbers and small groups of fast boats assailed me on multiple occasions, getting in the way of my FS-X strikers or trying to harm my own surface groups. Thankfully the FS-X were able to bomb the ships (except for one poor pilot who bit the waves after a AAA hit). As well, an early precaution was to arm some Seahawks in the ASuW role instead of ASW, and came in very handy, minimizing the expenditure of harpoons. The destruction of the Taepodong and launcher was accomplished with almost 9 hours left in the scenario (time was certainly on my mind, my FS-X had to switch to cluster bombs to finish the job within the alotted time) Equipment tally: Friendly Losses: 3 x F-15 2 x FS-X Enemy Losses: 1 x Taepodong and launch site 1 x Romeo SS 1 x SA-5 battery 2 x SA-3 battery 3 x ZSU-23 2 x KS-12 2 x S-60 11 x Patrol boats 72 x Aircraft (Mig-29, Mig-23, Mig-21, Mig-17) Damaged 1 x Hochon Missile Base
  19. Try using a clean copy of the PE, let us know if that doesn't resolve your issue. The PE makes a couple of temporary tables during import and export so if an import or export doesn't complete without error, those tables don't properly get destroyed so for now the easiest work-around is to use a clean copy.
  20. Is this where I criticize DDG-1000? While I don't know, I don't think the US has the complement of tools to confidently combat stealth ships. To that end I think smaller USN ships to lessen the blow of losing any single ship (DDG-1000...) are an appropriate cautionary measure. However, imho the LCS is even too large/valuable for such an approach. The small ships of my fleet will also be stealthy. However, my ships will be networked to kazoo, the software on the suckers will cost more than the ships themselves. If we can tie multiple telescope sites together, let's make our fleet of little ships multiply their capabilities in the same way. Add networked fire that only sci-fi books can currently talk about, and make those relatively cheap land attack guided gunshells into effective air warfare munitions so our little ships pack a maximum punch at minimal cost. Now to that poor diesel sub that attacks and sinks even two or three of my ships, too bad, the other 5 or 9 are sure to get you soon.... Human loss is terrible but that same sub would have sunk my DDG-1000 outright and the sub gets away without answer.
  21. Thanks Pete, with your results, seems like a High High High approach may have been better with such an effective SEAD result (or Low High Low)? Thank you for sharing your results, very valuable for my understanding anyway
  22. At first glance this sounds bad to me, ASW is glamorous, Mine Warfare is not. Knee jerk reaction says that ASW will steal what little money mine warfare has and run with it. Perfect world scenario is that the two feed from the talents and knowledge of the other, the two fields are certainly more complementary than distinct once you get past politics and funding...
  23. Good article, even if you take out the glowing review of the F-14 , thanks Pete.
  24. Right on Pete, the only compelling reason to become a British colony again would be sane ship names!
