The speed\altitude stuff should be resolved in 2009.017. The code I wrote in 2009.016 was on the right track but wasn't complete.

Thanks Rene, it isn't however the end of the world. fwiw I'm having planes that should be loitering keep going. All of these are unintended side effects of the damaged sub forced surfacing changes in this build.

New version attached (this must be used with 2008.058+ GE). Unzip the whole ball of wax with directories in tact to your HCE directory. (so that you'll end up with a HCE\UnitWin directory as well as the updated DLL in ExportDLLs directory. This is a very minor update and doesn't address any of the requested changes (sorry). What has changed: 1. You can now run multiple copies of this DLL if you want to zoom in on different action with different windows. Just make a second/third/fourth copy of the UnitWin1.dll file in the ExportDLLs folder. 2. The occasional crash upon exit of the game may be fixed, if you still get the crash with this version, please let me know. I'm cautiously optimistic. (attachment removed, newer version later in thread)
  4. I've seen it and won't touch it any time soon. It was left that way for a reason, to change it would mean any number of new ways of taking advantage of the AI and of making the AI unable to properly employ the weapons. What you see is a compromise and one not easily improved upon.

Ok first question is the new hotkey an real adition or will it replace the return key as hotkey at some point? if it will replace return we need to find a better key than \ maybee 0 or something like this. A Key present in most keyboards at the same place... I´ll test later wich key is now the 1:1 with the german layout. Addition, not replacement. You'll note that \ isn't set in stone or I wouldn't be asking... I like the \ key since it is one of the few that is often over-sized on US keyboards.

Hi Warhorse, My approach isn't the cheapest. I run VMWare Workstation, $200 (give or take $10). I run the SE on a Windows 2000 Pro virtual machine (which requires a valid Windows 2000 license) within VMWare workstation. What you would need to take the VMWare approach: 1. VMWare Player (free), http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ 2. A valid license for Windows 95 or newer 32-bit operating system on which to run the SE. Then you have some choices... a. Make your own shell VM with a service such as http://www.easyvmx.com/ then install your copy of Windows on the VM, then the SE. b. Prove to me that you have a valid license and there is a good chance I'll agree to make a VM for you that will run on the player and comes with your Windows installed and ready for the HC installation. In short, with the VMWare approach what you want can be accomplished with only a time expenditure as long as you have an available 32-bit Windows license. There are other solutions (Virtual PC, Linux/WINE,...).

HCE - 2009.016 ============== - Chg:0000 GE Added the ability to stop the game clock without the pause dialog and without minimizing the game. The new methods are the Ctrl-Alt-p hotkey (pause without dialog) and pressing the - key from 1 sec time compression. The pause is indicated by 0 sec listed in the time compression box. This does not mean a player should issue orders while paused since planes may not be marked as in use, weapons may not be marked as launched, etc. until the next game second elapses. - Chg:0000 GE Added additional hotkeys for 1:1 time compression. The existing hotkey is Return/Enter, the new hotkey is the \ | key. The new hotkey may need to change to accomodate non-US keyboard layouts. - Chg:0000 GE Stopped hogging the entire CPU core worth of processing power when the game is minimized. - Chg:0000 GE The Speed/Altitude event processor (internal to the game) now can apply the event to a single unit if the unit was fed in as part of the event. This should mean only the damaged sub in a multi-sub group will surface when damage is critical.

This should mean only the damaged sub in a multi-sub group will surface when damage is critical. Regarding the additional "force 1:1" key it would really help if those using non-US keyboard layouts can report back on if this works for them or not. Rene, your input would be appreciated. I suspect we made need to choose a more universal key. Hogging of CPU power, if you minimize 2009.015 or earlier when the game is running you'll see a CPU usage spike in task manager that lasts as long as the game is minimized, that should disappear with this build. Speed/Altitude, Brad can explain this if anyone needs clarification. He found that the forced surfacing of critically damaged subs was working but that every unit in the group was surfaced, not just the damaged one. This in theory will remedy that and only surface the damaged sub. I did not verify that this works. That speed/altitude change could result in crashes so it would be extra handy if you run some games on autoplay to artificially stress test the new code.

I had a hard time describing it, obviously! Maybe an example or two will help. If you are editing a ship group the SE should prevent you from deleting the last ship/sub/land unit in the group. The group may start with a ship and a sub. You should be allowed to delete any aircraft embarked on the ship as well as delete the Ship OR the Sub, but not both (because then there would be no units in the group). If you have a Port and a ship in a group, you should never be able to delete the port but you should be allowed to delete the ship. Does that help?

    - Chg:B073 SE When adding more than two variable start points, don't crash. Confirmed this fix. Test with 2 Groups and a total of 10 Variable Start Points experienced no problems. Buddha Thanks Buddha, in cases where a Mantis issue or Issue Tracker issue is references, please update that issue as well. In this case Herman beat you to it. Keep up the good work!

that last one (SE logic for Delete Unit button in group edit) could use a bit of hammering. I tested the permutations I could think of but that was far from every conceivable combination of unit types.

What I mean by that, start a new topic, when you have enough evidence then create an issue report (since it appears there is little evidence as yet)

  24. HCE - 2009.012 ============== - Chg:B094 GE More work on the aircraft Speed/Altitude dialog. It is now driven by the typed in speed.
