Did you lose MS Access during your HDD problems? I recently had to replace a hard drive and reinstall everything, and at first I forgot to reinstall MS Office before trying to use the PE, resulting in it not working. The shortcut installed by Harpoon for the PE should point to a file with an MDB extension in your Harpoon folder. If MS Access is installed on your system, this should automatically open the MDB file in Access and allow you to work with it. You might also try opening your Harpoon folder in Explorer and double clicking the MDB file directly to see if it opens. Mine points to pfbuild2005.mdb, which I believe is the default when you install Harpoon. If you've done a lot of tinkering with different Databases, yours could have a different name. In any event, when you installed Access, Windows should have associated all files with the MDB extension with MS Access. If this got hosed somehow, try right clicking the MDB file, selecting Open With, and select MS Access, also selecting Always Use This Program to open this type of file. If you haven't yet used the PE on a new installation of Harpoon, you should see something to the effect of "Blank Database, please import", or something along those lines. Clicking Import New Database will import the .res and .rsr files as Brad indicated. Let not your heart be troubled Red. If I can master the procedures of this, anybody can. This group has helped me through more than one boneheaded mistake over the years, and I don't doubt for a minute we'll do the same for you, not that I'm sharing the title of Bonehead with you. You should've seen how badly I hosed up my ANW installation a few months ago, and the guys here bailed me out in short order. Buddha

Have you tried opening the Platform Editor and doing an import? I believe that will give you access to everything you need from your .res and .rsr files. Buddha

I've run a slew of old OSs on both VMWare and MS Virtual PC, and it's been my experience that VPC is far better, not to mention a whole lot less expensive. There are warnings from MS about it only running on the higher end version of Windows on the host machine, but it runs just fine on the lower end versions as well. You may get a minimum system requirements warning when you install it, but that can be ignored. You won't get MS tech support, but I've never found them very helpful anyway. Buddha

There are two main reasons why this is happening: 1. There are different settings for different weapons in the DB. An example would be an aircraft that carries HARMs but does not carry some sort of support pod at the same time. What happens is that the missile will lock onto a radar but you don't have a choice as to what that is. An F-16 with a HARM Targeting Pod however, will bring up a list of radars to attack. 2. [and the most likely reason] The seeker on the HARM cannot see the radar you are trying to attack. This is either because the power output of the radar is too low [such as in LPI radars] or [most likely] the altitude of the aircraft that is carrying the HARM is too low and below the radar horizon of the target. In ANW, a passive homing weapon must be able to see the target that it's trying to attack before it can launch [think getting the 'tone' for a Sidewinder AAM]. What this means is that you have to allow the weapon to 'see' the target by increasing your altitude. Of course, this allows more of the bad guys to see you, but what's life without a little fun? When I read Hunt for Red October, I remember thinking that Clancy must've used spies to get some of his background. They mentioned SOSUS, which the Navy was pretty close mouthed about at one time as I recall. Crimson Tide no doubt had a few folks worrying about being vaporized in their sleep due to some garbled message or other mistake. Buddha

For some reason, the Data Base Manager tab of my Launcher shows two instances of HUD3 - 1.6.1 - May 4TH 2011. Selecting either one appears to have identical results in the game, but the DB is listed twice for some reason. Is this supposed to happen? If not, is there a way to remove one of the entries without trashing anything. The Launcher's .ini file doesn't seem to have any entries that apply, and I'm not sure where else to look. I remember watching an old TV show when I was a kid about the Hunley, and seeing the guys in that little tube turning a crank shaft to propel the sub. I think it was an episode of some regular show, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was. It definitely made you feel for the crew. Buddha

I ran across CPO Sharkey on IMDB while looking some of this stuff up. I never watched the show much, but I was stationed at NTC San Diego as a chow hall MAA when they filmed the opening sequence on the grinder in front of the galley. Buddha

The Australian girls all liked "Patrol Boat", but I don't think it was anything to do with realism or good drama (although it was good drama) From memory it was a while ago, perhaps 1980's. I think they had an "A" class patrol boat and the first of those came across (from UK?) late 70's (or early 80's?). A scaled down version of the earlier popular series on the BBC (UK), perhaps "Warship" as mentioned. Personally I go for the comedy types and McHales Navy was a childhood favourite. I loved the one where the crew had a clothes washing scam going which ended in the base CO's dress uniform getting torpedoed Don I almost felt sorry for Capt. Binghamton at times. Every time he thought he had McHale and his "pirates" nailed, they squeaked by somehow. I really didn't care for the move from the Pacific to Italy though. Buddha

Buddha, Without digging up what I hope remains ancient history. Jan-Paul had a close association with the folks at HHQ, and they have well founded issues with the Editor of the PDB. I also have issues with that individual and his methods of operation. Buddha, I've received permission and Jan-Paul Köster has granted me the rights to distribute the program with one condition. It is not to be used in the construction of Battlesets using the PDB. Buddha, You're not missing anything from your installation. The file is a third party created program designed to allow for the creation of Harpoon 2 and 3 Battlesets. I believe it was designed by Jan-Paul Koster, who also designed the H3 ANW Launcher. I would have received the file somewhere around 5 or more years ago. I'll contact Jan-Paul and once I receive permission I'll make it available for everyone. Since Ralf and myself have it, I didn't realise other's may not and with the recent increased ANW activity here and Ralf and I running into this issue I just wanted to make people aware of this.
