Time to show my ignorance of ANW again I guess. I'm trying to get a handle on launching helo's loaded with troops to take over other enemy units. I can create a mission to have a CH-46 loaded with troops launch and sieze an ammo dump, but the same helo flat out will not do the same to a merchant ship off the coast at roughly the same distance. The helo shows as being assigned to the mission, but never launches. If I launch it first and make the assignment while it is loitering, it again seems to accept the order, but never goes anywhere. What am I doing wrong here? Thanx, Buddha

Please use this thread to express your thoughts and condolences on the passing of a honoured member of our Harpoon community, Darren Buckley of Melbourne, Australia. I don't have much to say, other than it was quite evident to anyone (even if you did not know him beyond the Interwebz) that Darren had a passion for our game that went well beyond the ordinary. His work on the Harpoon Users Database (HUD) was just one example of that. His contributions here will be missed, for sure.

Im having problems again with weapons not shooting within their range. Target has been identified and an enemy yet the staff message pops up sayinig tatget is out of range. Tony E, not a dire need so don't get yourself fired from work answering my silly question. Harpoon ANW V 3.10 DB is HUD 3. Thanks again, Steve OK. Weapons seemed to fire after pulling back from the target. Inside minimum range perhaps. Also EA 18 Growlers firing HARM 88 weren't given option of which RADAR to shoot on enemy vessel.

This happened several times with different scenarios, despite being the sub quite inside the range for the torpedoe when trying to launch one, it appears the message telling the target is out of range, I have attached a screenshot of "Break the Blockade" where the SSN Saphir is just 0,3 nm from a British ship, but no way to accomplish the attack It is the last version of H3 ANW Ult. Whe I played a scenario of the Falkland battleset similar situation was seen as a British SSN was less than 2 nm from an Argentinian DD and the same outcome. Any idea?

After designing my own scenerio with an Ohio class sub and starting the game (ANW V 3.10 HUD 3 DB) my sub turns blue and disappears. Some missiles after being fired also turn blue and vanish. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Greetings All, I just wanted to make everyone aware of an issue that may arise when creating new Battlesets for ANW. The Battleset name field is restricted to 25 character spaces. Exceeding this limit will cause both a corrupted display in the Scenario editor and a crash/freeze when attempting to make use of the editor's Batch Rebuild feature. I've attached a screenshot that, displays the Battleset name field in the BattlesetCreator.exe notated to illustrate the issue. Letters, numbers, symbols and spaces all count toward the 25 character limit. Please beware of this issue as Both Ralf and I have gone through enough hair pulling and gnashing of teeth for every…

Is there a way to determine if enemy radar is active straight from the screen (IE without selecting the units one by one and looking in the detail tab)? In particular I'm in Ralf's Pason wings of steel (#4?) and have considerable problem dealing with HARM attacks. Planes inevitable fly in without loosing off weapons but instead get shot down at about 30 mile from target (which I assume means that some ones radar is working). (Currently using 3.9.4 from UE package.) Don

I'm interested in comments from H3/ANW old hands regarding the different versions of the game that are in the ultimate edition relesae. One item that might be a hiderance to me is my RAM, 1/2 gig including onboard video. 3.6.3 seems to play more smoothly than ANW [3.10.1 update?] and it handles automated ASW work better (my observation open to user error). ANW certainly has a few nice extra bits but I'm looking for what will play the game best. Recent custom scenarios look far more interesting to me than the old built in ones (and I need up dated databases to run them but haven't yet managed to effect this in 3.6.3), how would this effect version choice? Are there any…

Am I correct that there isn't much instruction in the manuals for actual game play, just all the warfare theory (which is valuable)? Little problems seem to stop me from playing 'successful' games (IE having fun), my current problem relates to helo ASW game play. I send a helo to attack a sub contact (eg PASON #3 (ASW/ASUW) HUD3 db), it goes so far then hovers outside of the uncertainty area, the unit status window says its 'waiting' but never seems to get a trigger to proceed further. It seems to make no difference as to how I attack, select the helo and use F1, select the sub and use F6, use the mission editor (no shortcut key?), the same result. I can't find any s…

I don't think it's mentioned often enough just what a great bunch of members we have in this group. A week or so ago, I upgraded to the Ultimate Edition, and completely lost the SE. Within a day, Tony had me back up and running again. This morning, I was attempting to do DB update in ANW, and bolluxed things up to the point I couldn't load a scenario. This time it Was Ralf who saved me from what I thought would be a complete reinstall. I heard back from him with a solution in less than 2 hours. Try getting action like that, (gratis no less), from Microsoft sometime. Thanx to all, Buddha

I'm frequently having a situation where I have done significant damage to some members of a task group and I "K" them (denote probable kill) so that auto or blanket attacks use resources to more benefit but then when I get the others hosed down sufficiently I don't seem to be able to undo the "K" tag in order to finish them off. I suppose being a good humanitarian I should leave them in their toothless but living state, however the victory conditions don't seem to share this view. Is there a way to undo the "K" command (I can't find any in the manuals), do people think that the "K" command is to be avoided? Interested to hear experienced opinions. Don

I recently got the ultimate package (thanx to Tony and Don for that), and I've been going through the tutorials to get up to speed on the H3 game and play it. My problem is that in the sub warfare lesson, I flat out can't get my sub to launch a missile. Plenty of torpedoes available, but no SSM's. I've tried all depth, speed, ane headings with no success. I've also attempted the original Harpoon 2 tutorial running with DOSBox with the same results. I'm obviously doing something wrong here somewhere. Any advice, anyone?

I am just struggling here. I have a B2B with a loadout of AGM 154A and I cannot shoot any land target with the weapons range. The attack dialog screen comes up allowing to select the weapon and target yet the weapon will not fire. What gives? Thanks, Steve

Harpoon 3.9.4 scenerio editor using the HUD 3 DB. While adding a quantity of 8 B1B to an airbase and assigninging a loadout to that aircraft, the loadout screen states that a quantity of 5 of SO#143 is available yet all 8 of the bombers can be loaded. Am I missing something? Thanks, Steve

While playing Harpoon 3 w/ HUD3 DB enemy units dont seem to be having any radar returns and only a "ghost image" regardless of ship or aircraft thus an exact location is not known. Any suggestions?

Friends, I'd be grateful for a bit of advice. Here's my situation... I've long enjoyed HCE, but Windows 7 (64-bit) does not like the scenario editor! I can play the game, but I can't open the editor. I don't know when, if ever, a version of the scenario editor will be available that is 32-bit (I guess the problem is that the 64-bit windows doesn't like the 16-bit scenario editor) and, along with playing Harpoon, I'd love to keep writing Harpoon scenarios. I'm willing to give Harpoon 3 another try. I got an early version that crashed a LOT and finally gave up in disgust, but that was many years ago. In fact, H3 might be a better program for me to write …
