I know this is off-topic a bit, but I couldn't really find anywhere it wasn't. I have been looking for a full ANW download, anywhere. It seems that if you don't have it now, you're screwed—also, the H2 database editor. I found the menu-driven one, but it's all but useless. Any pointers to either or both would be awesome.

i've found my bigbox verion of harpoon 2 but when i try to install it i get a "you cant run this game on your computer " msg. My pc runs Sea Power etc which led me to search for the old classic harpoon stuff that i have such fond memories of. I have downloaded dosbox hoping that would sort it but I hav'nt really got a clue what to do. Is it salvageable or would I be better off with Ultimate Harpoon which i think contains my fave 'Dolitovs raid'?

Good Morning, I have H3 ver. 3.9.4 and H3 ultimate ANW. I switch between games for no specific reason and I noticed they have different databases, and even different configuration launchers. H3 has the HUD3 1.3.21 while the ANW has HUD3 1.5.0 DB. I would like to update to the latest DB. Could anyone tell me what the most current DB is and how to update? I just started playing Harp again and although I can remember updating in the past, it was a lot of years ago and my memory just isn't what it used to be. Thanks in advance!

	Hello All,

I am just getting back into Harpoon after a few years. I have the HUD3 and ANW versions and I am trying to put together a Time over Target spreadsheet. I have the very basics now for just a few planes and weapons but I would like to get the planes and weapons databases into a spreadsheet. I need speed info on the aircraft and weapons (harpoons, tomahawk, etc) to work the numbers. It looks like it will take some tweaking but so far I can get close. Way back I had edited the Ship DB adding the MSO, MCM, and MHC. But that was maybe 20 years ago. Can anybody give me a hand with this? Thanks in Advance!

Mike here, newbie to this forum but not to Harpoon. If any of the original 'pooners' are around, they'll probably recognise the nickname.

Ok, this is probably the wrong section but I did look and nothing else seems more appropriate.

Cutting to the chase...

I've been playing the PC Harpoon since the first week the original version went on sale then followed its evolution to H II. I've always been a keen WW2 enthusiast so when Jon's database editor showed up, I was in heaven and built my own WW2 database. Not many folks back then were into the WW2 stuff (Mostly because game limitations prevented accurate doctrine for the era) so I drifted away from the active community. Don't get me wrong, I like modern stuff as well. What I am now wondering is, what is the latest version of the game compatible with harpoon II, is it available and will it work with my database? Only I can answer the last one but I sure hope some one here can solve the 1st two for me. My current ver is H III 3.6.3

The following read is optional and probably of little interest to many.

It's taken eons of testing and innumerable swearwords to overcome many of the databases limitations so a more accurate portrayal of the era can be played. Things like bomb loads are limited, Comms have ranges, darkness without radar = blind as a bat and pilot quality has an effect on outcome on dogfights. Almost every thing is logistically settable at scenario creation time, from bomb loads to how many 'Aces' are on the base.. I wont bore you with details. Anyone interested can contact me and be welcome.

Database at present:
1146 ships
553 aircraft
Covers the era, 1856-1947.... and still growing.

You do know I am relying on a 'pooner's' passion here, hoping everyone is as happy to help a lost or curious soul as I am.

Cheers all

Mike AKA Mikawa

Database Design, Opinions Sought

Hi all. I am seeking opinions from people who create or would like to create scenarios for ANW. The purpose here is to see if all the development work I have put into a new Database is for naught or is there something that I could improve to make it better.

The subject in question is an Optional Rule that has been in the Miniature game since I got involved in that side (Harpoon 4 in the late 1990s.) Pilot Experience. Bringing Pilot Experience to Computer Harpoon would greatly increase the realism and allow things like the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot, MiG Alley in Korea, or how about the Six Day War in 1967. In each of the examples above, and in many others I can name, Pilot experience is the PIRMARY reason one side defeated the other. For example, the altitudes where the Marianas Turkey shoot occurred, the Zero was a more Dominant aircraft than the Hellcat it fought against. A reverse example is an IJN Flight Ensign in a SINGLE N1K2 Shiden-Kai fighting off an ENTIRE SQUADRON of novice F6F Hellcats, killing one and escaping.

In the Minis version of the game the Pilot experience affects chance of accidents, range performance and to a lesser extent combat performance. Now I cannot represent many of those factors in ANW but there are some that I can expand that were limited in the Mini rules because of the amount of math involved . After all, we play the game on some of the best calculators in the world right?

I will use the Chinese J-20 "Stealth" Fighter as an example of what I am doing.

1) Instead of a single J-20 Entry, there are FOUR J-20 Entries; J-20|Novice, J-20|Experienced, J-20|Veteran, J-20|Ace. Anything after the "|" Symbol will not show up in the basic Harpoon3.exe, only in after action reports and in the editors.

2) Each entry has a Different DATA (ability to escape attack,) Each weapon (be it built in like a mount or launch-able like a Missile,) has it's own version as well. to Describe how this looks:

J-20|Novice has a DATA of 4.0, Gsh-301 (PRC)|Novice has a ATA (Ability to hit an air target) of 2.0, a Rate of Fire of 15, and a maximum number of shots of 4.

J-20|Ace by comparison has a DATA of 5.25, Gsh-301 (PRC)|Ace has an ATA of 4.0, a Rate of Fire of 10, and a Maximum Number of Shots at 7.

In the above Examples, during a Dogfight the Ace version is 4+ times more likely to shoot down the Novice version than the Novice is the Ace.

That being said, as a Scenario designer, this would increase realism of Air combat, at the cost of some small issues.

Issues:

1)	Logistics in the game becomes much harder to implement. There is FOUR of every weapon type to stock in Magazines and depots.

2)	4x weapons = 4x work to create weapons (well not really.) but still that is a LOT more entries that need to be tracked, validated, adjusted etc by the Database editor.

3)	The Game engine will not allow mixed groups of aircraft to fly together. Thus a J-20|Ace will not be in the same formation as the J-20|Novice. They can be on the same mission together but now on the same “group”

So with that being said, What do you all think about this?

Question - noticed there was a Colonial Wars Database - looks like it was last made for 3.6... I can't seem to find a valid database download - they have it on the old Matrix site but it's a bad link and just loops... Is it worth finding - or - is 3.6 lacking in many of the newer features ? Is it available anywhere ? Wouldn't mind trying some older scenerios... Any suggestions ?
