  2. Hi, I am a casual pc player (play once in two weeks or so) and have harpoon 3 v. 3.6.3 on my pc. I really enjoyed it. So, to contribute to further devlopment, I want to buy some newer version of harpoon. Do you think that buying ANW will be rational, since I am not sure if I will see some real improvements when I convert from 3.6.3 to ANW. Some even say that it would be one step backwards, because of the bugs. If that is the situation, I will purchase HCCE, but I am not sure if I want an operational naval game, instead of a tactical one. Any suggestions?

Fellow Harpooneers, I just purchased and installed H3 ANW 3.7.0.0, and am going through the tutorials now. I have had and played the original Harpoon, Harpoon II, Harpoon 97 Classic so I'm reasonably comfortable with H3's interface. I have a couple of questions I'm hoping for help with: 1. How far would you suggest I patch it? I have seen the comments to skip any other 3.7 versions and go to 3.8. (I've downloaded the 3.8 patch already). 2. Which version from 3.7 thru 3.8 will give me the best selection of user-made databases and scenarios? I always liked Harpoon II even with the fatal bugs, so I'm looking forward to my H3 experience. Tha…

A Harpoon3: ANW Review can be found here: http://www.gamesquad.com/index.php?option=...d=8&aid=155 Anyone wanting to see some of the reported problems can take a look for themselves to decide if they are major or minor. Personally, I regard at least 10-15 of them as outright Game-Killing bugs. * Known Harpoon [ANW] Issues Good work, Scott. Home of the Harpoon3 PlayersDB

At the request of Ivan Rapkinov, here is a partial list of known 'Bugs' for Harpoon 3. Not all the behaviours described below are 'bugs'. Some are simply an explanation of how the game or scenario editor works. Anomalies were reported by many various players of Harpoon. If anyone believes that a particular bug has been fixed or is in error, please feel free to notify GameSquad so that this list can be amended. Please note: This list is not meant as criticism of an excellent and enjoyable game. The sole purpose of this list is to inform players of currently known issues. EDIT: ONLY BUG/ISSUE POSTS WILL BE ADDED TO THIS THREAD - ANYTHING ELSE WILL BE DELETE…

Hello everyone, I just signed up a few days ago and wanted to say hi! I've been out of the Harpoon loop for a few years, it's nice coming back to see that my old favorite now has honest-to-goodness multiplayer; also a big thanks to Tony and Herman for helping me get it working reliably last nite and offering me up a thorough schooling of hard knocks in ASW warfare. Look forward to matching up with folks in the future...shoot me a PM if you're interested, I'm around in the evenings (-6S. Central US time). - Brandon Fisher (Just call me 'Fish')

I've thrown together a program to allow you to edit some of the Text RES files from H2/3. It was mainly built to edit HARPTEXT.RES and CONTEXT.RES. It will also successfully edit any of the other RES files with TEXT in their name. At some point I may expand it to allow editing of the TUTORIAL.RES file and a couple of others. Grab the file at: http://www.harpgamer.com/utils/HGH3ResText_v.1.0.0.0.exe Let us know what doesn't work and what should work better. I understand it is rather basic...

Under the guise of Stratsims I'm able to leave a dedicated server up and running for a while. IP: 72.21.228.42 Port: 14343 - PDB aka Players Database The server has been stable since I turned MPLogging off in the harpoon3.ini file. Occasionally the clients come unsynched and the clients crash but the server piece itself has been pretty stable. Click image to enter chat. The above image indicates whether there are any people at HarpGamer ready and willing to undertake an Multiplayer mission. The games need not take place on the Stratsims server, this can function as a general meeting place to set up MP games, and requires only a fairly recent web browse…

Yes, I've taken the plunge and acquired Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare. Does this mean that I've switched to the "dark side" and won't be playing Harpoon Classic, building scenarios for it, or continuing work on the HCDB ? Umm, no. Not on your life. The pull of potential multi-player Harpoon action is strong, however, and if it is half as fun as Silent Hunter III has been, it should be a ball. Gimme some time to get up to speed on this new fangled toy, and then I'll be looking to try some MP. Hopefully we can get some AAR's posted up here too.

Given ANW is apparently going to ship with an H4DB, which is a modified "ODB". Why would a third party DB be advantageous over the H4DB aside from having platforms not found in the paper H4 Data Annex? Assuming that the player is "ok" with H4.1 data? Looking for a straight forward response. Thanks in advance.
