I've noticed that in the latest version of the HCDB, weapons based on the Mk 82 do more damage, and those based on the Mk 84 do significantly less, than in previous versions. I presume that this is based on a paper rules update, but what was the rationale? 'Enquiring minds want to know!'

Some notes on Swedish airforce in the DB: Note that there where few things more secret than missile loadouts and missile guidance in Swedish armed forces. I know the original rb24 (AIM-9b) bought from the US where eventually upgraded to AIM-9P and Swedish defence industry messed around with fuzes too but have not found any dates. As the designation Rb74 where used for both AIM-9L and AIM-9M (or atleast in some official text) JA37 (1979-98) Should not be able to use AMRAAM, the Standard load out would been 2 Skyflash and 4 AIM-9J/P (Rb 24J) / AIM-9L(Rb 74) (two of each where common on photos) from 1987 add 2 Flare dispensers (BOY401) without losing othe…

I think this is the right place for this information. At the original database, CV Kuznetsov can only wear 36 aircraft. David Miller, "The Illustrated Directory of Warships, London, 2001", says that "the planned capacity of the ship is 58 aircraft". And Chris Chant, "Barcos de Guerra, Alcobendas, 2006", says that it is able to carry between 60 and 70 aircraft. If you are editing your own database, as I do, you can modify this entry. A typical air wing of 60 aircraft could be: 36*Su-33 Flanker. 12*Ka-25 Hormone A, ASW. 6*Ka-25 Hormone B, Search. 6*Ka-31 Helix, AEW. David Miller also says that a 58 aircraft air wing would be composed of 36 Flankers, …

Some code that I changed years ago has been bothering me. At one point I limited the Damage Points of non-nuclear weapons to 999 DP. That has no functional merit in the code so I've gone back to the old limit of 30,000DP for a conventional weapon. So have fun DB editors, you can make bigger bombs again...

This is in reply to Rene's thread: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3259 HC has fourteen native loadout types. Each of those types may have unique uses and behaviors. Loadout type may influence what altitude the planes fly at by default. It may also dictate whether the AI turns on the active sensors upon launch. The loadout type also defines more core characteristics, whether it is an intercept loadout for air to air battles for instance. There is at this time no comprehensive list of the impact of each mission type but the name should give a good indication of the purpose. The loadout/mission types are: FERRY - For transit between landi…

Hi Is the distancte to the Horizon a fixed Value in HCE? Or how is it calculated? I found Values around 10 to 20km depending on the high for the observer and a Ship on the Horizon. How does this affect Weapons like SM-1 or SM-2 in surface mode? When i set the Surface range to 0 they get "horizon" as a range in the Platform display...

  12. Looking for data about japanese planes, I've find these pages (in japanese !!!), where we can read the actual name of the F-2 radar (J/APG-1, range 100 n.m. I guess in the text !) and his internal ECM suite (IEWS/AIBU ???): http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~flip-around/military-aircraft/f2.htm And this one, with names and uses of radar and other ECM and electronic systems of the japanese planes: http://homepage1.nifty.com/jagaimo/west_nest/s_jecs.html And some nice photoshopped pictures of hypotetical F-3?: http://www.hudong.com/wiki/%E6%97%A5%E6%9C...%96%97%E6%9C%BA

Hi Brad or Tony, I have run into a problem which I hope you'll be able to shed some light on .I have added new ships, subs, and planes previously into the Platform Editor with no problem. As of yesterday though I have never added new weapons, its seems that some of my planes are not loaded with the expected weapons in their loadout. However it is only a few planes loadout and not all. I have noticed that some units in the weapons annex had shifted two spots before. That is, I had a Viggen Fighter with an expected ARS-212 Rocket but instead get a Spetsatz Squad. Since the problem is only confined to the weapons annex, I need your assistance to show me if there i…

I've been looking at the HCDB and specificly at the magazine/turret relationship of the Iowa BBs. On the turrets I notice that they each hold enough rounds that when combined with the magazines which hold 255 rounds, you have the total needed for each turret. Here's where I have a problem with that. If I remember correctly the magazines supply ALL the mounts of the same type. In other words, even if the front two turrets are blown up, the ship will continue to use the ammo supplied by all three magazines. That being said, I find it hard to believe you're going to be running 2700lb shells from one end of the boat to the other. Wouldn't it make more sense to place…

Cruising through the HCDB-080712 recently, I noticed that the American Mk48 Mod7 torpedo is limited to a max depth of Shallow(!) This seems a little odd, since the Mod6 could go all the way down to VDeep, but I suppose it is vaguely plausible if the torp was meant to be used in the littorals. However, if this is accurate, then I really, really think that the Virginia class SSNs ought to have at least a few torps aboard capable of handling a blue-water ASW engagement ...
