August 30, 200817 yr In the process of setting up a scenario using the Middle East battleset and the HCDB-080824, I've noticed that a number of the bases in the smaller gulf nations, for example Shaikh Isa AB in Bahrain, Al Udeid in Qatar, and Al Dhafra in the UAE, are rather seriously misplaced ...
August 30, 200817 yr Real life geographical coordinates do not match very well to the HCE map in some cases. In those cases you have to actually use the Scenario Editor to try and manually locate the installation in question and determine the game map's own set of coordinates. Tedious. Worse, I am unsure whether 'fixing' the location of an Installation for the EC2003 IOPG map, for example, will still ensure its proper location in the new custom Middle East Battleset map. I know there are still a few examples of this in the DB, and you've mentioned a few of them. It would be helpful if someone made a list (in this thread, preferably), of installations whose locations are out of whack. Most importantly, however, is to note that you, as a scenario writer, can physically change the location of an Installation when writing your scenario, just as you would when changing the location of any Ship or Sub group. So, the power to fix the problem is in your hands when writing or editing a scenario.
August 30, 200817 yr Author Hmmm ... okay, I went back and checked the named bases in the EC2003 IOPG battleset. It appears that they are located properly on that map, at least in visual terms. That is, the base looks to be located at the proper spot on the land mass. However, it also appears that the IOPG map must be somewhat distorted, as in order to make the base land at the proper spot on the land mass, it is necessary to give them co-ordinates somewhat at variance with those reported elsewhere, for example on www.scramble.nl. The custom Middle East map does not seem to suffer these distortions, so the bases come out in the wrong place. Looks like there's nothing to do but move the bases by hand, which I've done. Thanks for looking into the issue.
