For bases that have large center formation zones (60 miles across is common), the aircraft assigned to the center zone will almost always cluster at the northern edge of the zone. So unless there are patrols set in the formation's southern zones, the best approach to attack the base is from dead straight south. Typically, I fire a pretty large volley of ARM missile at the base and the SAMs around it, and I try to NEVER fire at the planes in the formation around the base. I'm wanting to do a short series of scenarios as ECM, SEAD and related operations with instructive orders. I need confirmation/ further comment on some ECM stuff. My summary is : Offensive ECM has (in the loadout window of the carrying unit) Target = Radar, Range > 0 (and not "Horizon") It reduces the likelihood of enemy radar picking up any aircraft in the effective area of the ECM . Defensive ECM has Target=Radar, Range =0. It only reduces the likelihood of enemy radar picking up the unit carrying the ECM. At the moment I'm just wondering if others have noticed this (it could be my imagination) and if so if it causes you any issues. Restrict yourself to ship vs ship. Compare say a single barrel single turret gun and single rail single mount missile launcher. EG 4.5" gun and mk 13 GMLS ( a late mod RAN Perth class I think has both, the mk 13 including harpoon in the mount magazine ). Say you have two targets or just want to throw plenty of metal. With the gun it works correctly, you can only fire one shell at a time and further allocated shells are fired at intervals (according to mount rate of fire), but with the missile launcher you can fire as many at once…

Here's something new to me, if you use your mouse wheel it changes the selected group or unit (if you're in the group or unit window) up and down (north and south I guess). I suppose I don't use the mouse for lots of stuff so maybe every one knows this but it was a hoot when I saw it.

Its addictive as I remember from back in the day. As the original Harpoon evolved has multiplayer online play ever been considered? I don't see any mention in the HCE description.

Playing the EC2000 Battle for the Norwegian Sea scenario Nordic Light and so far I have shot down 12 Tornado - somehow. Only info I have is that they have been shot down in the Message Log - no other info. What is going on? Assuming they are getting shot down by my assets, shouldn't I at least have some info on it happening? Puzzled, Akmatov

Greetings all. I had the Harpoon Classic for a long time, but loaded on 3.5 discs. A few have gone missing over time and the laptop I had the game installed on died. So I bought the CD-Rom for the game I found on eBay. What I noticed immediately, is that the game is missing all of the NACV scenarios. Is there any place to find the original scenarios? Thanks.

Allrighty, start submitting national anthems as wav, mp3, or other non midi formats that I can easily read, Enrique wants his sunk ship songs playing again. We'll need additional information with each: 1. What nation it is representing 2. Reasonble proof the file can be used in a commercial product with nothing more than attribution as 'payment.' I would suggest leaning towards instrumental variants but I don't see why lyrical variants wouldn't be acceptable though we'll review each for content.

Does anyone recall an 'issue' (maybe a long time back) regards ships attacking snorkeling subs? I vaguely remember something about it, and want to look to see if there might be problems with having ships being able to attack snorkeling subs with naval gunnery. I want to have snorkeling subs as a simulation of ukraine type semi submerged fast attack drones.

Hi Folks, I have recently installed version 2009.042 on a new Gateway netbook running XP. The game seems to work ok but when I issue a patrol order for a base I can not see the box to click OK and I can not go any further in the game. If any one knows a solution to this issue I would appreciate the help.

I have computer harpoon classic for windows version 1.63. I've downloaded several scenarios from the "classic" section here and can not get any of them to work. I've no idea how this is supposed to be done; I've poked around this site & the internet with a search engine & still do not know how to use these custom scenarios. I've tried doubleclicking on the downloaded file, then choosing harpoon to open the file, but then harpoon tells me that the saved game that I am trying to load is not compatible with my version of harpoon. Good afternoon everyone. I have recently purchased the Matrix Games Harpoon Ultimate Commander's Edition as well as Harpoon 3 -3.9.4 after not playing Harpoon for ages. One of the things I have noticed is that UCE is more "user friendly" and easier for a relative Newbie like myself to get up and playing.. While Harpoon 3 appears to be more difficult. That being said, I guess I am frustrated with H3 even though I am perceiving it to be the more "accurate" simulation for playing against the computer AI, as opposed to UCE as being more of an "advanced video game" version of Harpoon. Someone want to take a crack at creating a new Battleset (using the Battleset Builder utility) for the Caucasus region? Ideally I think it would include the Caspian Sea on the east (right hand) side, and the eastern portions of the Black and Mediterranean Seas on the left. Maybe centred on Tbilisi, Georgia. It might be nice to be able to include a good portion of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well, but the resulting map might be a bit too large. Messing around with the BSB will tell for sure.

I just got a new computer and I need some help getting Harpoon up and running again. I installed it from the harpoon commanders edition disc, and I'm going to apply the update below. HCE-UpdateComprehensiveInstaller-2009.050 so my question is this, is this the latest version of harpoon commanders edition? If not, please paste the link to the latest edition. Just happened upon my CD box of Harpoon Ultimate Edition and will be exploring it again. One quick question, will the included Scenarios in the Battle Sets function correctly with the updated HCE Database? Or are the updated HCE Databases only usable with Scenarios created with them? Any advice appreciated.
