Mystery Shoot Downs

Featured Replies

Playing the EC2000 Battle for the Norwegian Sea scenario Nordic Light and so far I have shot down 12 Tornado - somehow. Only info I have is that they have been shot down in the Message Log - no other info.

What is going on?

Assuming they are getting shot down by my assets, shouldn't I at least have some info on it happening?

Puzzled,

There are a minimum of two situations where this can occur (assuming you are using version 2008.044).

1. You destroy an enemy base and the aircraft cannot make it to an alternate base before they are destroyed.

2. You are seeing the results of a bug that surfaces when planes have a lower speed at higher altitudes than they do at Low. The problem tends not to crop up in the commondb battlesets (EC2003/WestPac) because the HCDB database has few or no entries with that characteristic. It is fixed in the betas and will be fixed in the next patch release.

Another related possibility - not what happened here, because of the obvious "shoot down" message - but enemy aircraft can also "disappear" from the order of battle when you attack an airfield and destroy parked aircraft.
