I noticed somewhere there's a hot key to the (new) "zero" time acceleration (pause, but can still use windows and issue orders etc) in the beta GEs. The hot key is alt ctrl P. In case you haven't noticed it it is very good for those hectic moments when you have been cruising along at high game speed but suddenly need the world to stop NOW. I wonder if it could be twiddled to work from the assistants advise box, you know the sort where he says, something like "every known missile is headed towards you, would you like to turn on your radar?" Hey all: Went and bought the Harpoon Ultimate edition and have been enjoying it immensely. However I noticed something that for me is a little offputting. Down the bottom of the game screen there seems to be a scrolling text advertisement for various image packs and the like. It also speaks highly of buying the game, which is a little strange since I bought it online from Matrix games. Is this stuff supposed to be there? Can I turn it off? Thanks Ant

The title says it all, just curious as it has great potential (been playing Harpoon since the old Amiga days) but after I bought this last one I was gutted as it was truely terrible, same went for ANW whioch was even more broken. I'd love to get my moneys worth out of it even if I have to wait another 5 years...

I've had an idea for a while about doing small battleset maps for specific scenarios, eg WWII mini sub attack Sydney Harbour, Air attack Pearl Harbour, and the like. To do so I need to fine tune the actual battleset map so as to have the needed detail. I've seen on a document mention of editing individual bitmaps but no info on how it is done and reloaded into the battleset. Can anyone help me? I've found some bitmaps in the BSbuilder folder but my "GIMP" editor doesn't seem to like the 16 bit per channel, do I need another graphic editor? Don Thomas

I'm doing some research on a larger Vietnam era scenario during the Rolling Thunder campaign[65-68]. I've learned that destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin were used for SAR missions and was wondering where the omni present helicopters are coming from. A friendly person on the consim world forum for Downtown has pointed me to this document: Navy SAR Vietnam report. On page 3 you can see a helo that is refueld in flight from a destroyer. Is this possible in Harpoon? Or shall I add it to my growing wishlist

I've been playing Harpoon on my Netbook and while it is playable it can bog down sometimes which I put down to the pretty poor 1.6Ghz Atom processor in my Compaq Netbook. I've been looking at "trading up" to an Acer Travelmate 8371 which has a 1.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor which is slower 1 core v 1 core but dual core is basically 2.8 Ghz, so I was wondering if Harpoon would actually utilise two cores?

Hi guys, I am old fan of this game I played it when it used be on 12 floppy discs (must be early or mid 90') so when I saw this new HUE I bought it in blink of eye. In this new edition I have seen some old classic scenarios/battlesets but also some new. Please can you explain me how to install user made scenarios like lets say Falkland (so I can sink Invincible, and die happy ).Is there some kind of sticky or topic where is everything explained step by step. Also is there possibility when installing user scenario something to go wrong with official HUE, I would definitely like to avoid that. I checked FAQ so now I know a little bit more about batt…

Guys, watching the HUE coming out and looking forward to Christmas, it is a nice time for reflecting over the "game" which excites us so much. Not about H3 ANW, that´s a totally different story, but about Harpoon Classic. While in the last two years I´ve focused on H3 ANW and not written a single HCE scenario (shame on me but I´ll do it better in 2011 - promised), I never lost contact to HCE and to Harpgamer. Since a few weeks, I have returned full scale, enjoying donaldseadog´s latest scen, having fun whenever I start HCE. And getting "that same old feeling". Why is that so? Why is it so fascinating to play a sim which... ...uses an very old 16-bit sc…

As I cranked out some code tonight I got to thinking about the interfaces available to ExportDLLs in the game and how they might lend themselves to automated statistics tracking. This would entail the user... 1. Opening a harpgamer.com forum account if they don't have one 2. Downloading and unzipping a DLL to the ExportDLLs folder 3. Upon running the game, answer a few one-time questions such as: 3a. What is your harpgamer username? 3b. What is the statistics key from your profile view? (this is a value only that user would see in their profile) 3c. Mark my statistics anonymous? (yes/no to list either by username or as anonymous) Now when the user starts a s…

I don't know if the bug is in my head or the game so I thought I'd post here first. I had a scenario which included killing a SAM barge as a victory condition and while my first tests seem to work it later turned out that it didn't. In the scen editor, victory conditions command, I selected "ship" subtype "brg", but when I checked via the 'edit' it listed 'AAA'. Anyone know how I should do this? Don

Just wondering if all the other databases are compatible with HCUE that I've just bought, wanted to try the WW2 database and some of the scenarios. Secondly is there any easy way of swapping databases or is it easier to have maybe 2 installations? Also is the Commanders Ultimate Edition compatible with the beta versions, as in can I install them over the top or should I keep my HCE install for that?

Hello, I have a hard time keeping my fighters and strike aircraft alive against opposition. This happens in the PacWest battleset with Japan vs South Korea and to a lesser extent North Korea. What is my best response with an air group against an incoming air to air missile group? Just turn around and run? I tried this with full afterburner on very low, but this exposes the planes to the risk of crashing. And at times the air to air missiles still hit. Often this leads to a situation where both parties are completely annihilated by the missiles. Any advice is welcome

Tony...I don't know how you feel about question relating to the "Ultimate Edition" here. If you are opposed just say. The version is 2009.050. Can you give any insight as to how that compares to your most current 2010.10 beta? Essentially, how "current" is the 2010.10 Ultimate version?

This is my first go with Classic/Commander's and as I've not had years of 'Pooner experience, I thought it might be interesting to see how the game has changed. I'll add a post as I go through each version, playing a scenario in each one. Let's begin at the beginning, with the first Alpha build from 1988.

I was wanting to include a suicide ship attack in a custom database and used a copy of the baka... missile from the kamikaze loadouts of the hcww database. While I can get the missile to destroy the target I can't get it to destroy the suicide ship. I assume the magic code is specific to air launched weapons (somehow) or there is some trick I've missed. Anyway my question is whether there is a general desire for suicide ship attacks eg fast launch loaded with explosives? You could do a fair bit of damage in a shared commercial/naval harbour with the right setup. Don Thomas
