I had hoped to get one more build out before being swept away by the holidays but didn't quite make it. We had a day of maintenance (hair cuts, snow shovelling, bank deposits, laundry, cookie making, Christmas show watching, paper snowflake making, dentist & doctor visits) before the main attractions start tomorrow! Be well and joyous, see ya next week or a little sooner if I sneak away

Please join us next week on IRC for a Harpoon discussion. We hope to have one of these periodically in the future, especially if you and your friends show up! http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/calendar/event/5-harpoon-irc-chat/

A little off the wall I admit, but this is the best place I can think of to pose the question since this group has members from all over the world. A retired SMCM buddy of mine asked me about the "Rum Ration" practice in the British Navy as opposed to the strict dry policy in the USN and also the Navy's of the rest of the world. Any of you guys from other nations, please let me know. Thanx, Buddha [Thread moved here from the Harpoon Classic forum. -CV32]

HarpoonPages invites you to vote for the 2006 Pooner and Lifetime Pooner. The big news is that this is the 10th Anniversary of the first Pooner vote (Tom Wenck won back in 1996 for his pfedit program). Thanks to yours truly, Don Gilman, Larry Bond, Chris Carlson, and Brad Leyte (Pooner 2005) the award this year includes adoration & thanks of the Harpoon community and more. The 2006 Pooner will receive a first edition hard cover copy of Red Storm Rising, in Very Good condition (if not fine but I'm no book dealer) signed not only by Tom Clancy, but Larry Bond as well! The 2006 Lifetime Pooner will receive a copy of Dangerous Ground signed by Larry Bond an…

From BBC Electronics' 'missing link' found Details of an entirely new kind of electronic device, which could make chips smaller and far more efficient, have been outlined by scientists. The new components, described by scientists at Hewlett-Packard, are known as "memristors". The devices were proposed 40 years ago but have only recently been fabricated, the team wrote in the journal Nature. They have already been used to build novel transistors - tiny switches that are the building blocks of all chips. "Now we have this type of device we have a broader palette with which to paint our circuits," Professor Stan Williams, one of the team, told the BBC…

HarpoonPages invites you to participate in the 11th Annual Pooner Vote. Congratulations again to the 2006 Pooner Jan Paul Koester and lifetime Pooner Darrel Dearing. The 2007 Pooner will receive their choice of H3ANW, HCE, or World In Conflict but the real reward is the voters sharing their reasons for choosing who they chose. There will be no Lifetime Pooner awarded this year in order to get back to a roughly two to one ratio of yearly to lifetime Pooners. To vote and view the past winners, visit http://www.harpoonpages.com/poonervote/pooner-Intro.php. !!!Please note that you can vote for anyone who hasn't previously won, even if they aren't listed …

Is there any interest in adding a Harpoon fiction section to the forums? Either expanded play examples or straight out fiction?

  14. But I'd like to know what functions, as in what manned stations, are common to the CIC and what the use is of the bridge of a vessel. If possible, list the crew and officer stations for the CIC and Bridge separately. Thanks.

I gave a presentation similar to this to a coworker earlier this week and recorded another go at it last night for 'fun'. I suggest switching to the higher quality 720p so that you can actually see the screen text. This dips very lightly into Assembly programming and looking at high level language conversion into the opcodes and assembly instructions that the x86 processor understands. Part 1 Part 2 Warning: May put you to sleep!

This topic was initiatiated at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...amp;#entry18886 but after the long and painful writing below, I think it's better begin this new topic I can't say what's my favorite submarine film (in general, for me, the war movies are bad movies), and I remember my grandfather was submariner (sunked in C-3 by a torpedo fired by U-34). But some unknown mad Spaniard had presented a truckload of submarine films someplace in the Net (in spanish), and I can now refresh memories with some titles, some of them unknown to me previously, other famous films, other apparently infamous films, and of course I've not see all of them, but this is a …

  19. Ignore stuff like cost, building possibilities. I created the two of these for a play-by-post RP I'm running, set in 2014. The first one is a stealth fighter, the other is a CVG, Sukhoi Su-50 "Fantasy" The Su-50 is a Russian stealth fighter, developed in secret with the help of information acquired from the F-117 that was downed in Kosovo and first encountered by NATO in 2014. It is only detectable on radar within IR missile ranges and IR missiles are only really effective when fired at its tail. The aircraft is basically a more rounded (and more real-world) version of the "Firefox", from the movie of that name. Capable of Mach 1.4 on burner, it has a …

So you've created a game, update, database, utility, scenario, and would like the world to experience your great work-product... You post it to HarpGamer.com and wait for the accolades and glowing usage reports to come in but instead you hear absolutely nothing. Soon you would settle for a bit of harsh criticism but nothing appears. Welcome to the world of Harpoon! In many ways your initial work-product was the easy part since it was effort you enjoy. At this point it is time to don your latent "Marketing Genius" hat. My intent is to make a number of posts laying out potential ways to increase uptake of your work and maybe even grow a following that publicly par…
