A curious article about air-to-air radar ranges. The author don't cites sources and it's a little outdated, but the numbers are very coherent: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/230...les/PG/PGSA.htm http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/2300/Admin/Index3.htm The article is game-related, but interesting.

I had one of this insane ideas the other day, the problem with simulating amphibious warfare is that the only way to do it now is to have the landing ships x time on station, but would it be possible to create standard weapon loadouts simulating the troops and something similar for the defences, like assault helicopters have now? So you will have platoon, company, battalion weapon loadouts with LAND attack capability and something similar (which already exists in terms of brigades and divsions) for defenders - probably the battalion would be superfluous and could be replaced by x Cos - there's something similar on subs and the LCS in the form of SF teams - but this w…

Some considerations about the MiG-31 Foxhound and his variants, after the latest news of the March 2012 issue of Air International, and the book MiG-31 - Famous Russian Aircraft, by Yefim Gordon, Ian Allan – Midland 2005: The MiG-31M Foxhound-B development ceased near 1997 (for the english version of the Wikipedia and other books or sites the MiG-31M is confused with other variant or variants of MiG-31, and erroneouly stated as “in service”, and equipped with in service K-37 missiles). The MiG-31M Foxhound is a new airframe with six supports for big AAM in the underbelly, the other variants have only four supports. The K-37/AA-X-13 Arrow development ceased als…

About the County class destroyers and the Sea Slug missile, my results about the ships missile-carrying capacity, after a long afternoon of research motivated by the contradictory data about the topic: Originally envisaged to carry 18 or 20 missiles, but magazine enlarged before the ship building. The ships were equipped with: Sea Slug load=24 on the first THREE ships, of them 8 ready to fire (unknown missile-readying time). Sea Slug load=39 on the later FIVE ships, of them 6 ready to fire (unknown missile-readying time). 30 seconds time cycle for two missile salvoes obtained of the 8/6 missiles in the ready to use compartment, beyond the magazine and …

Some days ago I saw Brad has reduced in the last iteration of the DB in one unit the sound value of the submarines in the DB. I think is an usual change, I perceived it because in the previous iteration I was thinking about the sound value of the submarines and noting they are adjusted to the real values. This thinking was based mainly in the data published on the famous table of Submarines of the Russian and Soviet Navies:1718-1990, of Polmar and Noot, Naval Institute Press, Annapolis,1991. Today, reckoning about it but not searching data about the topic, I've finded casually this page base on the mentioned table and parallel data of other books: http://web.archive.or…

I'm returning to HCE after sometime away - I had created a new database and still have the res and rsr files but lost everything else in a hard drive failure - how do I access the data to start modifying it again. Sorry for the bone question but old age is setting in. [CV32: Edited your title to help others in a similar dilemma to more easily find the subject matter of your thread]

I know the official database (Brad's HCDB-xxxxxx) is maintained so as to be workable with old scenarios written on any of its predecessors, and with all else being as is this is necessary but I have this following thought (collection of thoughts). The most recent battlesets' built in scenarios (say in EC2003 family of battlesets) are getting old. In some future release/patch/upgrade I see a need for perhaps post 2010 era scenarios built in to battlesets. Also some of the battlesets have no built in scenarios and these ideally should have some. The official database is filling up the loadout annex space, it has some entries included as workarounds that are now unnecessar…

Someone remember if the Sonars Modifiers named Active and Passive in the Platform editor are disabled? If not, what is the effect of the modifiers? The values it sembles can be something as (it's not a exhaustive list, but I think those are the presente values): Passive, low noise: 246, 241 (Seawolf, Ohio, CAPTOR), 251 (Oscar II, Delta IV, Lafayette, Providence, Akula II, Improved Akula, Sierra II), Passive, high noise: 15, 226 (Noisemaker) Active, low noise/reflective size: 246, 251 (Seawolf, CAPTOR, Akula II, Improved Akula, Sierra II) Active, high noise/reflective size: 226 (Noisemaker),

Not an important matter, but can the pfbuild2005.mdb be used in a sub folder and import/export the commondb.res file to that sub folder instead of the HUCE root folder. I've tried but can't get it to work, I just would prefer to leave the commondb files alone in the root folder. Don Thomas

I'd like to see boarding parties (like that of the the pirate dhow) on patrol boats like Australian Armidale class. Would be particularly nice if one day there is a 'take command' function as an option to damage. I have been trying a pirate dhow against the new suicide boat, the dhow has lost each time so far. Don

Here we can link to and contribute public domain pics for the latest DB. Anything on wikipedia is game right? I think it will be important to track in this thread the proof of public domain status of each image and the ID number that you and Brad assign to each image (or IDs assigned if they are used for more than one commondb.rsr). A link to a high resolution version of the file is also a hopeful contribution to the goal of being able to use higher resolution media down the road. A brief intro to the licensing is that most wikicommons materials fall under... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tex...nported_License Surface craft Osprey 55 cla…

I was experimenting in the Scenario Editor. Trying to set up airbases and assets to resemble the current situation with Libya and the no-fly zone. Could not find any Canadian F-18 to load. Is this missing from the current standard HCDB? And as an alternative, which version of an F-18 would most resemble the CF-18 ?

Can some one confirm or otherwise my assumption that an aircraft radar with LDSD flag, but no other air search flag, has a blind spot through the tail? TIA Don

Does anyone recall whether any of the "OEM" databases, going back at least to HC Gold, ever have had Phantom IIs with a loadout that had only the four Sparrows and no Sidewinders, as in the case of some of the early F-4 marks)? Thanks.

I was hoping that Harpoon Ultimate would have changed JDAMS from missiles to bombs since its not really a missile. Is their a reason for this?

Brad, just working on two new HCE scens, one using the HCDB. Browsing through the units I stumbled over the SU-33. There is a loadout where it carries 14 misslies - 12 Adder and 2 Archer. I knew that this bird can carry a large load, but thought the limit is 10 missiles. Have I missed something? Regards, Ralf

Question: The time needed for repairs can be modified in the database? It depends on the type of unit / structure? or the type of damage? (Good idea for the "wish list", structures or bases for repairs "fast" units ...) tanks
