Greetings, Is there any chance the naval inventories of smaller forces can be added to the HUCE database? These forces would help to fleshout the South America, Sub-Saharan Africa and the smaller forces in the GUIK and WestPac battlesets. Adding these smaller units would make generating a broader range of scenarios possible. If numbers and names need to be plugged into an Excel spreadsheet to be incorporated into the DB, send me a template of the Excel workbook and I'b be more than happy to plug int the numbers and text to help the community in developing a better gaming experience. Best regards!

  2. Hi guys, Just read some interesting tidbits about Chile's modernization of its Type 23 frigates. A NIPmail piece (August 2011) shows that in mid-2011 they contracted with BAE Systems for an update to the Tracker Type 911 surveillance radar and Thales Underwater Systems for the addition of their 2087 towed-array sonar. The radar tweak is nothing really significant, but from an ASW standpoint, the frigates didn't previously have a towed array. This would give them quite a capability update and expand their capability. This might be benefitial, from a scenario design perspective.

Not is clear what types of AIM-9 were employed in the mainly exported F-104 Starfighters. The follow considerations are basically informed guesses with puntual evidences. Also, we must remember a missile is designed to keep his integrity when loaded in a plane because the vibrations only a few flight hours (most between 40 or 400), and late it will be discarded or remanufactured. One of the most confusing elements is the double designation of the AIM-9F as AIM-9B FGW Mod.2, shortened to AIM-9B in the texts, the confussion provoked to think late Starfighters were equipped with the low performance, old and original AIM-9B. As consequence, most of the literature says A…

  4. After some testing I'dont see effects in the use of TCS on planes. Neither in the use of IR and Low-level light TV on ships (and submarines). They are actually any effects by his use in the game!

  5. Started by Clemens,

I have a few questions about the DB and please excuse my ignorance on the subject, Ive been away from harpoon for several years now. I'm currently putting together some scenarios in the westpac battleset and I'm running into a few problems. I am trying to construct the scenarios reasonably realistically, Some of it is hypothetical but I'm not doing things like giving Singapore an aircraft carrier but I am using platforms that won't be in service until the 2015-2020 time frame. The problem is the huge buildup in forces in the area. When I look up some ships, I find several variations of the same hull being used and the DB doesn't include all of them. Some of the variations…

  6. I'm back after a long hiatus (real life work takes up too much time but I gotta eat) - anyways - I managed to get HCE working in a VM sandbox. I'm trying to build some test scenarios to get back into the groove - looking for suggestions on how I can create/substitute some China Marine Surveillance Vessels. (link below) My practice builds will eventually continue my South China Sea/Sulawesi Sea Triangle series that I had small success with a few years back. http://www.sinodefence.com/navy/marine-surveillance/ship.asp Thoughts? Recommendations? If it's in the latest HCDB build/other database I do apologize, I haven't swapped out the Commonres.db yet, but I am on b…

  7. Started by JMS,

I had one of this insane ideas the other day, the problem with simulating amphibious warfare is that the only way to do it now is to have the landing ships x time on station, but would it be possible to create standard weapon loadouts simulating the troops and something similar for the defences, like assault helicopters have now? So you will have platoon, company, battalion weapon loadouts with LAND attack capability and something similar (which already exists in terms of brigades and divsions) for defenders - probably the battalion would be superfluous and could be replaced by x Cos - there's something similar on subs and the LCS in the form of SF teams - but this w…

A curious article about air-to-air radar ranges. The author don't cites sources and it's a little outdated, but the numbers are very coherent: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/230...les/PG/PGSA.htm http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/2300/Admin/Index3.htm The article is game-related, but interesting.

Some days ago I saw Brad has reduced in the last iteration of the DB in one unit the sound value of the submarines in the DB. I think is an usual change, I perceived it because in the previous iteration I was thinking about the sound value of the submarines and noting they are adjusted to the real values. This thinking was based mainly in the data published on the famous table of Submarines of the Russian and Soviet Navies:1718-1990, of Polmar and Noot, Naval Institute Press, Annapolis,1991. Today, reckoning about it but not searching data about the topic, I've finded casually this page base on the mentioned table and parallel data of other books: http://web.archive.or…

  10. About the County class destroyers and the Sea Slug missile, my results about the ships missile-carrying capacity, after a long afternoon of research motivated by the contradictory data about the topic: Originally envisaged to carry 18 or 20 missiles, but magazine enlarged before the ship building. The ships were equipped with: Sea Slug load=24 on the first THREE ships, of them 8 ready to fire (unknown missile-readying time). Sea Slug load=39 on the later FIVE ships, of them 6 ready to fire (unknown missile-readying time). 30 seconds time cycle for two missile salvoes obtained of the 8/6 missiles in the ready to use compartment, beyond the magazine and …

I'm returning to HCE after sometime away - I had created a new database and still have the res and rsr files but lost everything else in a hard drive failure - how do I access the data to start modifying it again. Sorry for the bone question but old age is setting in. [CV32: Edited your title to help others in a similar dilemma to more easily find the subject matter of your thread]

Here we can link to and contribute public domain pics for the latest DB. Anything on wikipedia is game right? I think it will be important to track in this thread the proof of public domain status of each image and the ID number that you and Brad assign to each image (or IDs assigned if they are used for more than one commondb.rsr). A link to a high resolution version of the file is also a hopeful contribution to the goal of being able to use higher resolution media down the road. A brief intro to the licensing is that most wikicommons materials fall under... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tex...nported_License Surface craft Osprey 55 cla…

  13. Started by donaldseadog,

I know the official database (Brad's HCDB-xxxxxx) is maintained so as to be workable with old scenarios written on any of its predecessors, and with all else being as is this is necessary but I have this following thought (collection of thoughts). The most recent battlesets' built in scenarios (say in EC2003 family of battlesets) are getting old. In some future release/patch/upgrade I see a need for perhaps post 2010 era scenarios built in to battlesets. Also some of the battlesets have no built in scenarios and these ideally should have some. The official database is filling up the loadout annex space, it has some entries included as workarounds that are now unnecessar…

Someone remember if the Sonars Modifiers named Active and Passive in the Platform editor are disabled? If not, what is the effect of the modifiers? The values it sembles can be something as (it's not a exhaustive list, but I think those are the presente values): Passive, low noise: 246, 241 (Seawolf, Ohio, CAPTOR), 251 (Oscar II, Delta IV, Lafayette, Providence, Akula II, Improved Akula, Sierra II), Passive, high noise: 15, 226 (Noisemaker) Active, low noise/reflective size: 246, 251 (Seawolf, CAPTOR, Akula II, Improved Akula, Sierra II) Active, high noise/reflective size: 226 (Noisemaker),

  15. Started by donaldseadog,

I'd like to see boarding parties (like that of the the pirate dhow) on patrol boats like Australian Armidale class. Would be particularly nice if one day there is a 'take command' function as an option to damage. I have been trying a pirate dhow against the new suicide boat, the dhow has lost each time so far. Not an important matter, but can the pfbuild2005.mdb be used in a sub folder and import/export the commondb.res file to that sub folder instead of the HUCE root folder. I've tried but can't get it to work, I just would prefer to leave the commondb files alone in the root folder. Don Thomas

I was looking at this platform in the game today, and noticed that its heaviest warload was two 1,000 lb JDAMs. I thought it was supposed to be able to carry a pair of 2,000 lb JDAMs?

  19. Started by Desertfox,

I was experimenting in the Scenario Editor. Trying to set up airbases and assets to resemble the current situation with Libya and the no-fly zone. Could not find any Canadian F-18 to load. Is this missing from the current standard HCDB? And as an alternative, which version of an F-18 would most resemble the CF-18 ?
