Hello. I'm in search of Harpoon v1.2 for the old Three-Sixty Computer Harpoon. My research is indicating it was released by disk directly from Three-Sixty by request of v1.1 game owners and not "released" per say with and add-on products like v1.1 (original release) or v1.3+. Would anyone have any information on how I could obtain the v1.2 Harpoon.exe file? Thank you.

I understand how to load a user scenario (my experience with Harpoon goes back to Classic on floppies) but I am unclear about databases and mods (when I need them and how to install them). I checked the FAQ but still don't know how to begin so here I am. I downloaded the "Lisbon we have a problem" scenario ver 2 from the WestPac section and assumed it would run without a problem but I got an annex error. Not a clue what that means or how to remedy the problem. Can I assume that if the scenario is in the GUIK, NACV, MED, IOPG or WestPac sections it should run without any database or mod addons? What about those South Atlantic or Caribbean or other scenarios -…

I just bought (in the last 2 months) HCE. My last working version was the OLD Mac version of Classic, and I did get the beta of HC2002 for a while. So, anyway, I'm looking through it all, and I like the changes, but I did notice one thing: What, functionally, is the difference between the EC2000 and the EC2003 battlesets? Is there any? i.e. should I just ignore the 2000 ones, basically? Is it just there to support a base of scenarios written for it? Also, is there (somewhere) a list of back-end improvements to the simulation since the old days all in one place? Even if it's a list of patch notes, I can skim it so see what all is there. Even in the OLD har…

  6. The question seems to come up occassionally about refueling air craft (CAP units in particular) from tankers in formation about a base. I've attached a simple saved game tnk2bse1.hpq (from standard wespac battleset) to illustrate what I do, (I think it's pretty sneaky). the game opens with the CAP patrol out from baseAAa with insuffient fuel to get home. In formation patrol 140 nm away is a tanker AA01. "join" the base and the CAP patrol , 'move' the tanker from the bae to the fighter group and execute the "join". use 'alt' R to commence refuelling and wait for the request to split the tanker then send it home. set the CAP groups speed to send it back to its patrol poi…

  8. I have the following questions: SAMs: The AI handles the air defense for the units. What is the protocol for the air defense? I have had some games where the area defense ships seem not to fire at incoming asms. Or, the targeted unit will wait to fire short range sams and not fire the long-range sams. (I may be mistaken, so if anyone has had similar experiences....) Torpedoes: I've just had a game where an AI Russian sub fired a torpedo with no chance of getting hit. It was apparently a short-range torpedo. If the sub had fired a long-range wake-following torpedo it might of had a chance. Is their a weapons hierarchy? Is the AI set to fire at maximum rang…

Okay, I've just ordered a new computer, which is going to have the 64-bit version of Vista. I understand that this means I will need some help to run the scenario editor. What solutions are y'all using, and how much do they cost? Thanks for any input ...

Well, I'm back! ANW has pissed me off, so I'm back looking closely at HCE. I've been playing around with the download section getting some of the battlesets that include the very nice textured maps some of which are very dark. The game icons blend right in and are in effect invisible. Is it possible to modify the icon colors to make them visible ? I think this needs urgent attention. Regards, RedMike...out

Ok. I got the Harpoon Signature Edition (HSE) converted from 5.25 floppy to 3.5 (CD) and it installed perfectly and runs great (15,000 frameskip) in DOSBox! I also have original boxed Designer Series I (HDSI) and II (HDSII) on 3.5 in floppy and they installed perfectly over the HSE. Haven't had time to tinker yet, but the HSE is v1.31se and the HDSII updates to v1.32a and also installs a "harp386.exe" that runs v1.386a. Not for sure the difference between v1.31se and v1.386a, but I did boot up both and the graphics on the v1.386a are sharper. I think it esentially is an ega addition with little changes (if any) to game mechanics. Another neat thing, the HDSII instal…

Potential choices for a first (and, eventually, follow-up) HCE Shakedown Scenario(s). Please take the time to vote on these choices so we can start developing a "beginner's battleset" for HCE.

So.. I got sick of navigating to my HCE install, copying & pasting from my database folder into the main install folder to switch between DBs all the time. I decided to set up JSGME (Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler) so all I have to do is run the desktop shortcut and click the DB over/back to switch. I know it's only one file to swap out but it's less of a pain for someone as lazy as myself. http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/...ucts-jsgme.html I'd like to see if we could get a JSGME compatible database compilation (with all the latest) uploaded so it's just a one-click download followed by extracting it to the HCE/MODS/ folder. I like things to b…

  15. I've noticed that my inner AAW ring units just seem to cruise along at the set speed lately. I thought they were supposed to sprint & drift like the ASW ring. Are my wires crossed? Did this change recently or did I get this mixed up with H3? Can I will them to S&D if I stare real hard at the formation editor?

Hey Guys, I edited some of the wav files for HCE (and added/edited a couple thanks to Stalintc). I didn't want to be blown out of my chair & given a heart attack going from dead silence to a loud boom. I also added a couple little extras into some sounds. It's not a huge makeover but gives a few of the sounds a bit more flavor. Submitted the zip in the mod section. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=421

Changes include slightly lowering the .wav decibals for some of the sounds that could give you a heart attack. Also, some of the sound's tones were lowered a bit for less screaching and more BOOM. The missile explosions now have a very short rocket sound before the new, less startling, explosion that has turned out very well. Lastly, I added a couple sounds from one of Stalintc's excellent mods and did some editing on the missile launch sound. Tha…

  18. I'm wondering what battlesets have the newer HCE features that are based 1980-1990 or so. I believe I saw the included HCDA/S/? or whichever those 3 or 4 are have active jamming working but didn't know if they have the full set of new goodies. Am I correct? Also.. which other battlesets do/don't have the new features? I've noticed the DB80to95 but haven't seen much in the way of created scenarios for it. Could someone point me in the right direction? I've not dove into scenario creation yet (I will sometime), but playing your own scenarios takes a bit of the surprise out of it, doesn't it?

  19. I don't know what's been wrong, lately. I wiped my Windows install about a month & a half ago. After reinstalling HCE, some enemy groups do not show in the group window. It did that with the 2008.44 version, I reinstalled/repatched HCE and it was still doing it. I updated to v 2009.035 and still no help. All using 090427 DB. It's done it on a couple different battlesets. I have no idea what's going on but I don't recall it doing this a few months ago. My most recent example is the Serhiy scenario I'm going to upload the save for. It's user-created but that hasn't mattered as the stock ones are doing it, too. Anyway, there are a lot of ground &a…

While I was trying to break the SAM ROF this morning I came across something else of interest, so I experimented with it a bit too. The test scenario I was using for the SAM ROF consisted of AS-4 Kitchens being fired at a naval surface target. I couldn't get my CIWS/guns to fire at them during point defense. Initial database configuration: Phalanx - max alt = low and min alt = vlow AS-4 - max alt = vhigh and min alt = vhigh Altered database configuration: Changed Phalanx max alt from low to vhigh and now they do engage in point defense. Changed AS-4 to low and vlow, but Phalanx still will not engage. I would take from this that the max altitud…
