I would like to keep this thread clean. No side topics, please. The early Hawkeye has several deficiencies compared to a modern AEW aircraft. However, it will not be present during the normal time frame of most Harpoon scenarios, and its opponents are much less capable than modern aircraft as well. One deficiency is the lack of ESM, so the E-2B does not detect radar emissions. The other deficiency is a "vertically-challenged" radar: without look-down, shoot-down (LDSD) capacity, radar ranges at most altitudes are halved. That is, the E-2B radar only works at full efficiency in its own altitude band and one level up. In particular, the E-2B can detect common enemy …

Just wondering if anybody else is playing around with the beta. Downloaded it a couple weeks ago and most stuff works pretty well. All the HCE stuff seems to work fine except for the Scenario Editor. Anybody else having problems? I'm running version 2008.044. I've tried running the Scenario Editor in all of the different compatibility modes but no dice. Fully understand that I'm running a beta OS, and incompatibilities are to be expected, just wondering if anybody else has had any luck getting it to work. Thanks, Jim

Hello, Has anyone had any UCE game freezes this week? I am running off an I3 / Win 7 Machine with ample hard drive space and 4GB of memory. I play UCE almost daily, but after the last Windows Update UCE freezes the moment I launch a game. Any ideas? Cheers

I just observed two magazines seemingly stalling to continue to reload mounts, although they had been performing properly through a number of reload cycles and still had magazine content. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Don

See the attached PDF for the heart of the exploration. First I had an idea, then I got a big piece of graph paper (roughly 36" x 24") and sketched out my ideas. For some reason a big piece of paper sometimes works for me when a letter sized piece won't, who knows why... From there came the digitalization, otherwise known as convincing Visio to show me something like what I so easily drew with pen and ruler. Then the longer document of explanation. And that's where the PDF comes from. As many of you know I'm part of the Stratsims gang http://www.stratsims.com and get the novel title of Lead Programmer. As well I have been and will soon again officially be an H…

Hi all - After a 15 year hiatus, I've decided to get back to Harpoon - one of my all-time favorites. I have a couple of questions................ As I read several of the posts here at this forum, it seems that HCE is perhaps more bug-free compared to ANW. Is that a fair conclusion? Also, it sounds like one of the first things I should do upon purchase, is download the Players DB. Is this a fairly intuitive process? Can anybody think of anything else that would be helpful to a noob? Finally, let me say how much I've enjoyed this forum. I look forward to playing the latest permutation of Harpoon and this forum has certainly added to my sense of …

Forgive me, but I won't try to give you the whole bug report. I think the screenshot is self-explanatory: a KC-135 tanker landed on an aircraft carrier Just to give you some background (perhaps to help reproduce), I'm still playing HDSI 11.0 in HCE. I have formed an AtG strike group out of 6 F-16s and a KC-135 for range extension. After the refueling was complete, I was asked where should the KC-135 land and among the options were all the aircraft carriers! So I though - what the hell - and decided to try it out . By the way, some time ago in HC 2002 I managed to land some C-130s on an aircraft carrier too

Hi all, I've downloaded the demo (HCEDemo-2014.020.exe) and installed it successfully (i.e. w/out error messages) on XP 32bit, Win7 Ultimate 64bit and XP mode on Win7 64bit. in either setting, an attempt to start the programn leads to an error message indcating that no VCOMP120.DLL file was found. Checking the disk (dir /s C:\VCOMP120.dll in an adminstrator mode cmd shell) did not show any file of that name. How am I supposed to get hold of that file? TIA, Happy Easter & best regards Volker

Hi Folks, Apologies for the cross-posting - I put this up at the MatrixGames forum, it was getting a lot of hits but no replies. guess all the action is now with HUE. In any case... It's been a while - I finally upgraded to a Win64 machine, only to realize afterwards that I don't have XP Mode (Home "Premium" - what exactly is premium about it???). Anyways, I'd like to continue running the HCE editor - I saw the guides here on using XPMode that comes with Pro, Ultimate, etc. Can anyone confirm that VMLite will do the same thing? Other options I haven't heard of? Appreciate the guidance. Thanks, -Armando

View File lazGUIdll_ext aka AI_window old zip version 5 will run in GE v 2017.05 -2022.027 and in Matrix Patch 2022.027 version 2.1.2.1 requires beta 2023.004+ latest version 2.2.1.33 requires GE version 2025.018 to run properly This is a modification of TonyE's lazGUI.dll. It isn't a tool for game play per se but for those interested it does expose some of the game internals. It adds for certain selected event types an automatic game pause when they are queued by the main program and showing information regarding the respective event. It provides certain information not seen in the game but useful for better understandi…

I'm running HCCE b09c under Windows XP. I recently designed a small scenario in the EC2003 IOPG Battleset. The strange thing I'm experiencing is that while playing Red, I'm getting reports on surface units from a Blue P-3. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, does anyone know of a fix? Thanx: Tom

I have a question about the formation editor which I can't seem to find an answer to. On the basic Matrix version of Harpoon Commander's Edition there are the four zones in the formation editor which I understand how to use. What I don't understand are what the extra two zones are for in the version I've downloaded here at HarpGamer. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I've been using ACCESS-97 data base. However, when I upgraded to Win10, it would not support my ancient version of OFFICE. I have now installed the latest version of OFFICE 365. I don't need ACCESS 365. Microsoft, in their wisdom. only installs in total ( can't take only some components of OFFICE 365). The new version won't use the ACCESS-97 format. The run time software that comes with HCE won't run if a version of ACCESS is already installed. I do use WORD and EXCEL; or I would just uninstall OFFICE 365 Does anyone have any suggestions to get around this conundrum? TIA, Gene Smith

Guys Recently bought the Ultimate edition. Played a "Splendid Little War" and destroyed all enemy installations and all their naval units. As far as I could tell both the French and Italian formations ended up where they needed to (although ships kept annoyingly running aground on the coastline!) but at the end of the scenario I got a "neither side met minimum victory conditions message"! I cannot launch the Commander's Edition scenario editor as I have a 64 bit version of Windows 7 which apparently means I can't run it. So how can I ever find out what I ACTUALLY need to do to win a scenario? Regards Andy

Noob here. Wanted to know if the AI reacts the same every time you play a scenario or if it can vary from game to game.

Problem is with seeing the orders when playing from a saved game. Situation: I started a user scenario, played for a while, then saved it. In this case in the Westpac battleset, the Duel_v2 scen. I come back later and load the save. I cannot call up the orders to review as HCE says it can't find them. Judging by the error message it appears to be trying to create the file name for the orders based on the *save file* name and not the original scenario. I've seen this behavior too in other scenarios, always a user scenario. Saves from a campaign scen do not seem to have this problem. Is there a fix or a work-around for this ?

I'm confident that this question has been answered in the past, but searches of the various folders did not come up with the answer. In practicing various strikes, I launched 3x strikers, and 2x prowlers, 1x S-3B Viking Tankers in support. I know the hotkey for forcing refuling is "alt+r". Im fairly certain that the refueler must be in the same group and the intended refuelees, so while they flew to the rendezvous point separately, I joined them. I then did the alt+r to no apparent effect. I tried it unsuccessfully with three aircraft types in the group, and then just two - the tanker and strikers - What would a typical refueling procedure look like in HCE? …

Would someone please explain the actual goings-on relating to "stopping" the HCE game via setting to Zero Sec time compression and via the "Pause" menu item? In particular: 1. Do these methods have any different effects on the game? 2. Do they affect other system resources differently? 3. Does the game continue to "run" in any way that is significant to game events while in either of these "stopped" modes? 4. Is there anything else relating to the use of these "stop" methods that might be useful for the player to know about? I'm also curious if there is any other means for "stopping" the game in some effectively paused and resumable state (other than sa…
