February 13, 201313 yr Guys Recently bought the Ultimate edition. Played a "Splendid Little War" and destroyed all enemy installations and all their naval units. As far as I could tell both the French and Italian formations ended up where they needed to (although ships kept annoyingly running aground on the coastline!) but at the end of the scenario I got a "neither side met minimum victory conditions message"! I cannot launch the Commander's Edition scenario editor as I have a 64 bit version of Windows 7 which apparently means I can't run it. So how can I ever find out what I ACTUALLY need to do to win a scenario? Regards Andy
February 13, 201313 yr Hi Andy, this may sound scary, but what battleset houses "Splendid Little War"? If it is a pre-EC2000 battleset you can use the 20th Anniversary edition launcher to run a DOS-based scenario editor from one of the old versions and give the victory conditions a look (Harpoon 1.58E specifically). If you can't find the icon for the 20th Anniversary edition launcher, go to your HC directory, then into HC20 and run HC20Run.exe If you think you may not be getting to the proper locations to trigger on station victory conditions, see the keyboard command to show the on station rectangles, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/417-keyboard-commands-by-location/ If you have or upgrade to Win 7 Pro see http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/718-docs-scenario-editor-in-windows-xp-mode/ There is also the very manageable approach a number of people have taken, grab an old XP machine and run the SE there (even Win 2000 or 98).
February 14, 201313 yr So how can I ever find out what I ACTUALLY need to do to win a scenario? For a Splendid Little War Blue Minimum Victory, 2 LSD or 3 Amphibs on station for 12 hours. Blue Total Victory, 2 LSD and 3 Amphibs on station for 12 hours.
March 24, 201313 yr Virtualbox is free, so you can run an XP VM under it easily on a Win 7 64 machine, if you have the license for XP. (I do all my Harpoon that way on my Mac. I have a Win 7 64 partition, but, Harpoon doesn't need that much power. The VM is fine.)
