Air to Air Refueling Procedure

Featured Replies

I'm confident that this question has been answered in the past, but searches of the various folders did not come up with the answer.

In practicing various strikes, I launched 3x strikers, and 2x prowlers, 1x S-3B Viking Tankers in support. I know the hotkey for forcing refuling is "alt+r". Im fairly certain that the refueler must be in the same group and the intended refuelees, so while they flew to the rendezvous point separately, I joined them. I then did the alt+r to no apparent effect. I tried it unsuccessfully with three aircraft types in the group, and then just two - the tanker and strikers -

What would a typical refueling procedure look like in HCE?

Thanks

Pete, there's a bug in the forced refuel (Alt+R) that we have since squashed in the beta patch. Until then, I have found an RTB command followed by a join and forced refuel, will sometimes get around it.

However, you will likely still have troubles trying to refuel multiple aircraft types in the same group. You may need 2 x S-3B Viking tankers to handle the strikers and the Prowlers.

Thanks Brad.

So the possible work-around is, in sequence, order tankers to return to base (i.e. "Land Air" button), join tankers with those to be refueled, then force refuel by combo alt+r?

Also, is the rule of thumb for assigning the number of tankers to a number of others or is it a matter of varying types of a/c within the group? In this case you mention 2 tankers for the 2x Prowlers and 3x Hornets.

Thanks again.

When the group ignores the "Forced re-fuel" command (Alt+R), you can sometimes get around it by:

1) Select group

2) F8 (divide group)

3) Move all elements of the group to a new group

4) Alt+R on the new group.

The join-RTB-Force Refuel has worked a handful of time today without any more problems.
