This is the latest beta from Gunny. Usable until his V 1.1 Release comes out with ANW V 3.11
  5. The correct database version is an very important issue, though. We have an official HUD 4 V 1.0 release and several betas around. Beta versions of databases are no good, they tend to crash older scenarios and lead to confusion. If I understand Gunny correctly, we have: for now: HUD 4 V 1.1 b10 for now to use and which is public available. Thus I will upload it here in the db section. upcoming: HUD 4 V 1.1 Release which will come with H3 ANW V 3.11 - whenever that is. I strongly recommend NOT to release further interim betas after the new release is out. Guys are confused, scenarios crash. This should be avoided and we all should use release versions for writing and playing a scenario.
  6. AAR Operation Blue Doghouse written by Mark Gellis Scenario for ANW V 3.10 and the HUD 4 V 1.1 DB Started with launching two F-4s in order to protect the task force vs air threats. Launched one RF-4 recon bird to patrol along the coast. One tanker up for refueling if necessary. A Canadian helo and my RF-4 confirm the first hostile contact, an old minesweeper. Two Harpoons underway. Both hit, contact is sunk. Another ship contact is verified as neutral. Two air contacts detected. My ships instantly fire SM2ERs. Should be no match for them. Two hits, aircraft downed. The RF-4 meets the tanker and starts refueling. So far all looks as if it is under control. Two more hostile ac indentified. The F-4s on station instantly launch Sparrows, two more direct kills. This is interesting, though. In a first short run, the Phantoms did NOT fire any Sparrows at the T-34. When I added larger ac (airborne) for red side, the F-4s launched Sparrows. Thus I thought it had to do with the T-34. Curious. Maybe it worked this time because my task force was on EMCON active and thus illuminated the targets for the Phantoms? Really not sure. Doing now pressing with four ATA armed F-4s close to hostile installations. Two more hostile ac identified. Again, the F-4s instantly launch their Sparrow missiles. Two more hard kills, they are coming in dumb. Meanwhile I have prepared for the first attacks. Two F-4s have a SEAD loadout, four others Iron Bombs. When the ship based, ATA armed Harriers are ready, they will take over the AAW stations and thus increase air superiority. Then it is time to strike. Next boogie downed, this time with SAMs, SM2ER. Is it so easy? Well, I´ll remain awake and cautious, Mark´s scenarios are never easy to win. The first pair of Phantoms RTBs. The Standards down one more hostile ac. Set up an AAW mission, assigned all six Harriers to it. Thus always two are aloft. The Canadian helos detect another unknown ship. Identified as a neutral. Now atacking the hostile Airfield. Have to admit they I´d clearly prefer to detect and attack discrete targets, like SAMs, radars etc. Don´t like this integrated installations. Reducing reality IMO. Ouch! Two F-4s downed by Redeye manpads. Two other F-4s deliver their bombs, though. Think I´ll have to flatten that base not with F-4s, but rather with my ship based attackers. Test it with a Sea Cobra. Yes, it works. The helo comes close enough and starts pounding the Redeye posts. Ok, more helos underway. Finally my task force is close enough and starts pounding both hostile installations with 127mm shells. Hope to get the SAMs. A real artillery duel has begun! The enemy has some coastal 105mm batteries, which were hard to detect. Little damage on the Dahlgreen caused by shells. Dahlgreen fires back and gets the howitzers. This is not over. More Redeye posts detected. Usually AFTER they have downed another helo. Ouch! Some other nasty traps, firing shells at my task force. I´ve directed it too close to the coast. The Dahlgreen is sinking. Too many hits. It fired until the end. There is a nasty MBT Platoon firing its 120mm rounds in my ships. Ok, since I lost a ship it´s only a draw even if I destroy enough hostile facilities. Got ten so far, but not enough. Nice scenario, Mark!

Well, maybe I was not clear enough. What I wanted to say is... +1 So you already have two others and only need one more.
  8. AAR Celebes Sea Slam 2016 written by Mark Gellis Scenario for ANW V 3.10 and the HUD 4 V 1.1 DB Shortly after starting the scenario I lost my small, alone but unafraid PG vessel. I returned fire with my four Broncos, operating in pairs. They attacked the terrorist camp, destroying both SAM sites and damaging several other facilities. The way now should be clear to attack the camp with Iron Bombs. Launched all six IB armed SF.260 warriors, in three pairs. Bombing worked, all six hit their targets and safely returned. There were several unknown ac on their way, but not one attacked my bombing force. Two bogies closing in on my task force. No risk allowed, both are shot down with Aspide SAMs. Sideline: The Emilo Jacinto has no fuel and thus is not movable here. Sent the helo out in order to scout the planned route. Few minutes later it is downed by an hostile ac. Due to my poor planning I lost the FFG several minutes later to cruise missiles. Think I´ll end here and wait for an db update regarding the zero-fuel-ship.
  9. Just playing it. AAR to come in a day or so...
  10. Mark, While fish shortage may become a problem, I doubt that it will lead to wars in the next years,. It´s not as critical as water supply. A country can live without fish, but not without water.
  11. Mark, I think 1) and 3) are the most realistic options, usable for many scenarios.
  12. Mark, While I think that the basic concept is ok and gives room for plenty scenarios, the Syrian example may be a bit unrealistic: It does not look like as the Russians or Chinese will ever support a blockade. Thus there would be no UN decision on this. Furthermore, IF UN wuold decide to raise a blockade , this would only be possible with positive Russian vote. And if so, why then should the Russians try to break that same blockade they agreed with? Thus the only way would be a coalition led blockade - without UN support - and the Russians supporting Syria. This would be no small thing then, it would be WW III.

Hi Mark, cool down. You are not alone.
  14. Hi Mark, I´m still around, just had not the time to write and/or test scenarios for several months. Hope I´ll have more time soon. Ralf

    A hearty welcome!
  16. Mark, I have my doubts if this works, e.g. Gunny has the time to do that. Going back to 1970 means many more units, expanding up to 2020 means more fictional units. IMO there are already too many fictional units/unrealistic loadouts in, resulting from the SGR battleset´s needs and several wishes. I have never been a fan of Star Wars Databases and I think it is more than enough work for Gunny to get things straight for the 1980 to 2015 timeframe.
  17. Thumbs up, Tony! Really nice.
  18. Mark, regarding 3). I think they did not like South Korea, either.
  19. Mark, regarding 4). I doubt that any direct Nato-USSR confrontation would had led to doomsday, to an automated escalation towards a global nuke exchange. I think there was a possibility of a pure conventioanl conflict. That´s why I love to write scenarios about non-nuke direct confrontations.
  20. File Name: Fish in a Barrel - modified version File Submitter: JSF File Submitted: 20 May 2012 File Category: Scenarios DB Used: HUD 3 V 1.5.0 Authors: Stock scenario from AGSI, modified version Battleset: Stock Battleset Cold War Hi Pooners, my first scenario work after a long time. It stems from a discussion with a new player over there at Matrix. He described his first experiences and especially some rather dull AI performances. Oh, well... Thus I tweaked the stock scenario "Fish in a Barrel" a little... Should be much sharper now. Highly recommended to play US side if you want to have a strong opponent. Click here to download this file

  21. Mark, Interesting plot. Reminds me a little of Barrett Tilman´s #The Sixth Battle#, one of my favourite books when it comes to Naval Warfare in an Cold war environment. I think, though, back in 1986, there would had been no German destroyer in the area. Same with Japan. Better use the Royal Navy.
  22. Hi Steven, Yes, why not make a small battleset out of it? Three scenarios, connected by your storyline. Sounds very interesting.
  23. JSF replied to TonyE's topic in General
Hi Tony, Great idea! AFAIK there isn´t and we should have one. Maybe we use the latest Harpoon logo (on the Harpoon UE Jewel Case), with HUD 4 written in it? After all, it´s the official database. And we should rename the HUD3 user group here into HUD4, after checking, who is in HUD3 and still active.
