Problems for russian submarines
The Borey class SSBN, proyect 955, can be cancelled after the first three units, the launching of the fourth class boat is now cancelled. Also, the launching of her new SLBM RS 30 Bulava (SS-NX-30) has failed 8 of 12 launching attempts. Also the Yaseni class SSGN, proyect 885, is failing her in service dates, none in service nor launched with the keel of the first laid-up in 1993. Also the Lada class SS, launched in 2004 and not yet in service: http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=111985 (in French, some interesting photos).

Third LPH Mistral named Dixmude
The name Dixmude is a rememberance of a battle fought in Belgium in the WWI by the Fusiliers Marins. Is out of the, for now, tradition of name the french amphibious vessels with the name of tempest winds, as Ouragan, Orage, Foudre, Siroco, Mistral and Tonnerre. The name is a rememberance also of the old zeppelin Dixmude, ex- LZ-114, lost in 1923, and of the CVE Dixmude, ex- HMS Biter, transfered in 1945. The original link (in french): http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=111998 About CVE Dixmude: http://frenchnavy.free.fr/ships/aircraft-c...ude/dixmude.htm About Dixmude ex- LZ-114: http://frenchnavy.free.fr/menus/menu_dirigeables-ballons.htm (only a small photo) http://www.avalanchepress.com/FrenchAirship.php (the ever interesting comments of Mike Bennighof, Ph.D. )

Tanker War, America's First Conflict With Iran, 1987-1988
It sound very interesting, yes. I remember 15 or 20 years ago in Spain was publicated a simple and original wargame about the same subject, I hope it's at my parents house. But I remember very well also it was very bad printed, and the tokens lose the impression colours the same week of his purchase And looking for your recommend book, hazardly I've see this, not relationated but may be interesting also: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tanks-Beaches-Paci...y/dp/1585442402

Train Track
Nice pike, Tony. I see, in this forum we the members are all the vices For me, from years ago, trains only in books, museums or in computer, but I like trains very much, at least the last 46 years (but yes, in some wardrobe should be some miniature trains, basically N gauge, unoperative for years). But not for travel, paradoxically I prefere the personal car, without schedules and without obligations of time.

Requests for the HCDB (Official DB of HCE) and HCDB2
I think the light helicopter in the entry 10920, ARH-70A Arapaho, was cancelled in 2008. We can liberate the mentioned entry and associated loadout (with the new DAGR missile ): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_ARH-70 http://www.janes.com/articles/Janes-All-th...ted-States.html http://www.asb.tv/forums/index.php?showtop...;show=&st=0

2009.046 Release Notes
Don, have you marked in the test the DPS (dipping sonar) flag ? If not, may be a factor of the irregular behaviour of the sonars in Alize or Atlantique.

CDR Salamander - OK, this LCS I will take....
No news for me, some weeks ago I've mentionated in this fora the F-100 small derivative (spanish build and constructed, Aegis equipped) frigate for the Norwegian navy, as a proved off the shelf substitute for LCS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fridtjof_Nansen_class_frigate And she's in service from 2006, not fancy flights here

2009.046 Release Notes
I can think only in the Su-39 with Zhuk radar (integrated in the plane in the DB), but they're other examples, basically in ASW helos with optional dipping sonar/MAD in some loadouts, as in Ka-25 Hormone-A (independent sonar, FLIR and MAD not integrable in the computer game, I think). The mentionated A-7E and A-6E, I reckon referenced to FLIR sensors in some loadouts. Yes, A-7E has FLIR in underwing point, but A-6E/TRAM has permanently integrated FLIR/TCS sensors below the nose ...

Japanese submarines finded, and a film
Reading the recent news report about the finding of the japanese submarines I-201 (advanced faster than Type XXI) and the seaplane-carrying I-14 (both and others sunked by the USN after the war in 1946, near Hawaii): http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/...rai+subs++found http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/13/science/13wreck.html?_r=2 Some basic facts in the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-201_class_submarine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_submarine_I-14 I've find in the Wikipedia references about this strange and intriguing film: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell_and_High_Water_(film) May be somebody can imagine a scenario based in the film

Invincible air groups?
Yes, if you fire your missiles at maximum range (it's easy if you're playing without range circles), the enemy planes can reverse its course and evade your missiles, flying at cruise speed. Your missiles simply going out of fuel/range. And I suppose the enemy planes are near bingo, if not, they reverse with afterburner to evade your missiles. I've observer this action when the enemy planes are at limit of range. The invincible air groups ? I can observe similar conducts, but only when playing with my personal databases, with very enhanced countermeasures, not in the standard databases. Another posibility is, in relation with the first item: You almost EVER fire your missiles at extreme range, and the enemy planes outrun the missiles with a simple reverse, or without it. They're situations when you fire missiles at extreme range, the missiles simply never can reach the target because mere range issues. And in all the aforementionated issues, we can find some perception issues, as example, sometimes, because the imperfection and excentricities of range circles and formation editors, we can do bad interpretation/perception of maximum ranges.

Sea Harrier v French Destroyer
Yes, I agree with all these issues, "contractors demo" included, but it's for compensate ranges and other factors in my own databases, as I explain now: In my own databases, the range of a dumb bomb/GPB is now 4 nm, because the (for me) excesive range and no apparent limits on height in the AAA. Also, for compensate the protection inherent to high level bombing, out of the AAA height, and methods of delivering dumb bombs standing-off, as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toss_bombing Also aplicable, of course and essential, I think, to free fall nuclear bombs launching ranges. Also, we can find some "real world data" about ranges of dumb bombs and LGBs in a very enlightening and fascinating article about the use of Mirage 2000 in the Kargil Campaing, 1999 (very difficult to find now, because the very bad restructuring of bharat-rakshak): http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/...1056-PCamp.html In the article: Dumb bomb range, 250 Kg. bombs (toss bombing or similar, I suppose, not specificated in the article. And they're ... Spanish manufactured bombs !): 8 Km=4,31 n.m. LGB range (Paveway II with some indian parts as consequence of weapons embargo): target acquisition 20 Km=10,79 n.m., target designation 15 Km=8,09 n.m., weapons release 8,5 Km=4,58 n.m.

Another little detail, reading stuff about Pakistan, the Hatf VIII Ra'ad ALCM, operative? from 2007. What a lot of missile and weapon development for a small and conflict immersed country ! : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra%27ad

Sea Harrier v French Destroyer
Incidentally, I was yesterday looking for laser guided bombs data (for me the range in the game is too short). Superheroes and villains in WWII and other political photos
Funny photos, but is a very old concept from the origins of superheroes, from Hawkman and Captain America to Hellboy. Rocketeer, Sky Captain and Indiana Jones (or looking for esoterical nazis near the secrete caves of Montsegur, and I don't understand why Darth Vader in the photos is not on the Axis side, hehehe).

2009.046 Release Notes
Very good news, but a pair of questions: - The individualized IR sensors (as DIBV 10 Vampir) are now operative ? - If so, is the same aplicable for instalation on plane's loadout, i.e, are now the IR sensors operative also as the radars in the loadouts (I suppose no, but I think is a very good question ... ).

2009.045 Release Notes
Yes, I've observated the same effect a lot of times, but I don't know why, I was thinking was an effect of my particular hardware/software combination. And other times, in the few cases I was in a dogfight only with guns (I'm very limitated in time this year, because job matters), I'm almost sure I'm in gun range, but the game engine question me about the necesity of a close-up for use the guns.

2009.045 Release Notes
Perhaps we can limit the ground attack guns at only the few specialized types, as Il-2 Sturmovik, Hs-129, Ju-87G or A-10. About the effects of attack a modern ship with 30mm guns, we can see the negligible effects of the israeli attack against the USS Liberty in 1967, and constate the improbability of sunk a big ship only with gunfire. The starboard listing was caused by the impact of a torpedo (from the total of six fired at USS Liberty), USS Liberty take also a napalm bomb impact. http://www.gtr5.com/photos_after.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_i...and_sea_attacks

2009.045 Release Notes
For me is enough. In the game scale, the effects of 7,62 or 12,7 mm are negligibles, except against pirate launch or similar soft target. But I remember the use of 20mm guns as tank busters (in He-112) in Spanish Civil War, against the light armour of the times. And today they're a lot of AFV with light armour, also very vulnerable to 20mm guns (and 12,7mm, but by far less vulnerables). I think the low limit of usable guns for ground attack may be 20mm guns = 1DP (but we ever can customize it).
