I've been trying to get back into playing Harpoon, I have the Commanders Edition that I purchased in 2008 and I have my serial number however I am struggling to identify what I need to download to play, if I go into the Matrix Games account and go to downloads it seems to list some updates rather than the full install which I guess I need to then apply the updates, where can I get the initial installation setup file?

Just wondering if this small item could make its way into the improvement tasklist sometime. From an old post on the Matrix forums ... "I've noticed this for the past few iterations of Harpoon Classic, so I thought I'd mention it again ... one thing that always gets me is the fact that the map jumps around if I click on the scrollbars, even if I do not actually move them. Sometimes I'd like to tweak the map view by just a small amount, but when I actually click on the scrollbar to move it the view immediately shifts from its original position. I'm always expecting a more Windows-like behavior where the map moves only when the scrollbar itself is moved ... you know, s…

I have searched the forum but am unclear on use of multiple databases. For example, I can download a scenario which needs the america's database. If I download the additional database I know I need to rename the HCE database. How does the new scenario read the right database and are there any problems in renaming the existing HCE database in existing scenarios. Thanks and you have done a great job in updating this wonderful game.

Hello all, I've downloaded a couple of Battlesets (Falkland and South Atlantic) but everytime I select the battleset in the game or the SE I get a "memory Allocation Failure" message. Any ideas?

A couple questions I couldn't find answers for on the forum: How are databases related to battlesets? Can you use any db with any battleset? What is the difference between EC2000 and EC2003? They have the same scenarios. I noticed that some scenarios download sections are listed for GUIK or EC2000 0r EC2003 all in one. Does this mean that the scenarios are interchangeable between all three battlesets. I guess I just don't understand why there are different battlesets covering basically the same area with similar units involved.

Pay 40 now for HCE or pay 75ish for ultimate and get ANW too? I suppose it kind of comes down to what is available for this game now and what future development is likely? To me HCE does not strike me as a high priority for the publisher to add too many new things to. So is the current version of the game compatible with many databases and scenarios?

Noob here. Wanted to know if the AI reacts the same every time you play a scenario or if it can vary from game to game.

Hi, I installed HCCE some time ago on a laptop, but didn't use it. I recently tried and it works OK except for sizing on some of the windows which I have no control over the sizing. For example pressing the F6 key (launch AC) and choose "attack" or "ferry" a window opens giving a list of target bases/groups. The left half of the window giving the list is OK but the right half of the window is cut off. Also the staff asst. window is truncated on the right. The build is 2009.036. It is running on Windows XP with all the latest updates at 1680x1050. I have tried it with several battlesets and at different screen resolutions. I must be missing something... any suggest…

...Hello - I've looked through the site for an answer to this one, but to no avail. I'm running HCE with the new battlesets (America, South Africa, etc) on my new Win7 laptop - the game runs like a champ, but SE refuses to run. I get an error message that says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see if you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher." Has anyone else run across this yet and if so, how did you sort it out? Thanks in advance.

I thought I saw somewhere that you could convert the EC2000 battle sets to EC2003. Is there such a thing or did I just imagine it?

I just updated my HCE with HC2009.042inc.zip and HC2010.006GE.zip from HarpGamer and did a short run test. I have some serious concerns about one of the changes made since the last Matrix patch, v2008.044. Reports I have read are completely correct, the AI Bear D recon aircraft now do not turn on their surface search radar and are now completely useless, as well as are several billion rubles of ASM carrying bombers up around Murmansk. This castration now makes it impossible to model a key Soviet strategy. With this change several regiments of very expensive Soviet bombers will spend the war waiting for a recon report that will never ever come. Yes, I am NOT amuse…

Hi all, I'm a long-time player of Harpoon Classic but by no means a seasoned one. I think I picked up the CD when I was 11 (now 25), every year or two it goes back into the CD drive for another play. Definitely aptly-named Since sending Nimrods forth to blow submarines out of the water in the GIUK gap has made up the majority of my Harpoon experience, the lack of a method of precisely ordering a sonobouy search has been a long term irritation. I decided to have a quick go at implementing this using the automation scripting utility 'AutoHotKey' (incredibly useful tool that I've dabbled with in the past) VERY IMPORTANT Put simply, AutoHotKey - the program used …

This may or may not be obvious (or useful) to you, I often use the scenario editor and am frequently using it with non standard databases or going back over the previous scenario. You can open the scenario editor from Tony's "launcher" (in the downloads section if you haven't seen it) by overwriting "winharp32.exe" with "wscenedt.exe". You can make some of the selections such as battleset, scenario file and database. When you launch it (since the last update) you have saved all the settings from the last launch. To make it work well, copy the 'launcher.ini' file to another (any) folder, make a desktop (or other place) shortcut to the launcher.exe and call it scenario ed…

I've been noticing lately that if I detect one sub of a group, within a minute or so, I'll detect the other. At first I thought that was fine, they're pretty close together. But, then I looked at the detection. I was playing a scenario with two surface ASW groups patrolling about 150 miles apart north/south from each other. A submarine was detected by a north group sonobuoy, about 15 miles north of the group, so about 165 miles from the south group. ~1 min later, its groupmate was detected...by CZ contact from the south group? What? You mean it was loud enough for the south group to see it 165 miles away, but the Spruance at 5 knots 10 miles from it never got …
