From DefenseNews Expert: Robots Used for War Are Threat to Humanity AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE Published: 27 Feb 08:18 EST (03:18 GMT) PARIS - Increasingly autonomous, gun-toting robots developed for warfare could easily fall into the hands of terrorists and may one day unleash a robot arms race, a top expert on artificial intelligence told AFP. "They pose a threat to humanity," said University of Sheffield professor Noel Sharkey ahead of a keynote address Feb. 26 before Britain's Royal United Services Institute. Intelligent machines deployed on battlefields around the world - from mobile grenade launchers to rocket-firing drones - can already identify and loc…

Just don't see this very often in our small city. Apparently it was picked up at a Boeing plant in Arizona and was headed to Boeing in Seattle for testing before making a pit stop here in Redding CA. What does Boeing have to do with the B1B? Neat anyway.

Over the years I've wanted to make tutorial videos for Harpoon Classic. That has happened minimally in fits and starts via: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPKrveki4y2fcobCgcmi9xS-JTgw-iHN5 For at least a year now I've been wanting to gauge interest in livestreaming HC (Twitch, Youtube Live, etc.). Please answer the poll included and comment with any additional information you are willing to share such as: 1. What day(s) of week and time(s) of day you would want to watch. 2. What chat mechanism(s) you would use for interacting. ...

  8. Just a thought... Command is very similar to Harpoon and it has the same level of quality--excellent information, realism, gameplay, etc. I think it is going to be a very important part of the naval simulation world for some time to come. Maybe it would make sense to "adopt" Command and make Harpgamer a clearinghouse for information about it, too, including forums for discussing it, and a repository for files, scenarios, etc. I'm not sure how hard it would be to add a new set of sub-forms forums for Command to the site, but this seems to me like a natural direction for Harpgamer to take. Any thoughts on this? Mark

I recently submitted an article found in a recent copy of Proceedings. The USNI website has many articles posted, but it seems to require membership to access them Is it worthwhile to post these articles if not many people can access them? Or is it ok to post copies of website content when there are such restrictions in place. It the active readers of this site are members, the point is mute.

Pearl Harbor Day rolls around again, I'm in the mood after watching a documentary on FDR, so with no further delay... A Different Christmas Poem The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps …

From Army Times Google Earth teams banned from military bases By Lolita C. Baldor - The Associated Press Posted : Friday Mar 7, 2008 13:24:40 EST WASHINGTON — Citing security risks, the Pentagon banned Google teams from making detailed street-level video maps of U.S. military bases after images of a Texas base ended up on the popular Internet site. A message sent to all Defense Department bases and installations around the country late last week told officials not to allow the mapping Web site to take panoramic views inside the facilities. Google said taking such pictures is against its policy and that the incident was a mistake. Air Force Gen. Gene Renu…

Time for me to rant a little more about gun control. The VT shootings are more tragic madness, I'm afraid, which will undoubtedly be exploited in ridiculous, despicable fashion by the gun haters. They'll have much less success in the United States, I'm sure, which by most measures is far more advanced in its gun laws than the rest of us poor sods, but it will be milked to the hilt by the liberals up here in Canuckistan. To summarize how I feel, if it wasn't obvious to you already, is what I think constitutes a properly worded online poll question: "If a mass killer was executing you and your friends one-by-one, would you prefer to have a properly-trained and licensed,…
