Is there any interest in adding a Harpoon fiction section to the forums? Either expanded play examples or straight out fiction?

Does NATO used the same gear as US forces? I know they use the same rifle rounds and such, but do they fly the same cargo planes, choppers, Humvees, ect?

So I'm re-reading Red Storm Rising, the book that got me into Harpoon. I'll be posting some thoughts here. First one - am I right in thinking that people were initially wary of Mikhail Gorbachev when he become General Secretary of the CPSU? The GenSec in this novel is described as a former agriculture minister, which is what Gorby was.

I'm looking for overhead vector or line art images of the LAV-25, LAV-AT, LAV-M, AAVP-7, and HUMMWV that can be used for a not for sale wargame project. Any leads that will not cost hundreds of dollars? Thanks

From BBC Electronics' 'missing link' found Details of an entirely new kind of electronic device, which could make chips smaller and far more efficient, have been outlined by scientists. The new components, described by scientists at Hewlett-Packard, are known as "memristors". The devices were proposed 40 years ago but have only recently been fabricated, the team wrote in the journal Nature. They have already been used to build novel transistors - tiny switches that are the building blocks of all chips. "Now we have this type of device we have a broader palette with which to paint our circuits," Professor Stan Williams, one of the team, told the BBC…

This thread is for all the well, more offbeat military stories. Whether it's a penguin getting a promotion or British troops singing "Show Me the Way to Amarillo" or something entirely different.

Hello, just reread my old Harpoon Battlebook as of 1991. There are some excerpts of the book mentioned above in it. Have been searching for it at amazon and ebay (ebay US), but did not find it. Does anybody have that book (is it good?) or know how/where to get it? TIA Ralf

Ignore stuff like cost, building possibilities. I created the two of these for a play-by-post RP I'm running, set in 2014. The first one is a stealth fighter, the other is a CVG, Sukhoi Su-50 "Fantasy" The Su-50 is a Russian stealth fighter, developed in secret with the help of information acquired from the F-117 that was downed in Kosovo and first encountered by NATO in 2014. It is only detectable on radar within IR missile ranges and IR missiles are only really effective when fired at its tail. The aircraft is basically a more rounded (and more real-world) version of the "Firefox", from the movie of that name. Capable of Mach 1.4 on burner, it has a …

Hi, I was trying to find any scenarios I could play for HCE involving the CV 41 USS Midway. I found it in the platform display, but have not been able to locate any scenarios for it. I toured the ship in San Diego last week and really enjoyed seeing a carrier and all the aircraft up close. The people doing the demos for take offs and landings are outstanding. Really get a good feel for how complicated and dangerous carrier oppertations are. Anyway, if anybody remembers playing any scenarios involving Midway let me know. Steve

I'm a member of Toastmasters. Every now and again I give a Harpoon-related speech. This speech on Sonar Plotting I gave two weeks ago, winning our club's Spring contest (without the PowerPoint presentation, used a whiteboard). Tuesday I'll give it again at the next level competition (with PowerPoint). Thought you might all be interested. Yes, I realize the content is very simplified, the audience may have no interest in such a topic so I make a real attempt to keep it light and relateable. Feel free to comment as usual! 20150226 Speech - Sonar Plotting.doc Sonar Plotting.ppt
