USS Midway

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was trying to find any scenarios I could play for HCE involving the CV 41 USS Midway. I found it in the platform display, but have not been able to locate any scenarios for it.

I toured the ship in San Diego last week and really enjoyed seeing a carrier and all the aircraft up close. The people doing the demos for take offs and landings are outstanding. Really get a good feel for how complicated and dangerous carrier oppertations are. Anyway, if anybody remembers playing any scenarios involving Midway let me know.

Steve

I would have said your best chance of finding the USS Midway would have been in the older battlesets, but I just took a quick look myself and could not locate any. The Forrestal, Independence and Ranger do appear often.

There still might be a scen or two in there that feature Midway, but a user created scenario might be more likely.

Of course, my best suggestion is to build a brand new scenario! B)

CV32,

Thanks for checking. I don't know much about building scenarios, but I might give it a try some day. I found one scenario involving taking out a bridge in Viet Nam which Midway was present at but it had another carrier named in the scenario so maybe I will play that scenario and pretend it is Midway.

As an old Magic Midway squid, I built it myself in the PE and fooled around with it before they were thoughtful enough to include it in the game. Unfortunately, I've never had much talent for scenario design, but it was fun to recionstruct our old CVBG and fool around with some of the Soviet units I rememberd seeing while I was aboard. Reconstructing the airwing takes a little work (F-4's, A-6's, A-7's, etc), but the BG compositon was pretty easy and playing around with hot situations that never quite arose was interesting.

Good luck,

Hi, I see you are from San Diego so I would guess you have been back to visit your old ship since it was turned into a museum. I spent about three hours checking out all the things I could and still ran out of time. Just too many things to see and talks by the excellent guides to listen to. I have to go back again and finish the parts of the ship I missed. Been reading the history of the Midway in a book I bought at the ship store. It got me to want to play a game of Harpoon using the Midway but alas I have not found any scenarios so far. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, it's pretty cool for me. I was serving aboard Midway when I was married in Tokyo almost 25 years ago. Now I can take my 23 year old daughter down there and show her the ship. A lot of guys aren't that lucky.

That's why it bums me out a little whenever an grand old lady like that is sunk or sold for scrap, as the Oriskany was awhile back.

I enjoying relating to Forrestal and Kitty Hawk class CV's on my gaming table. I prefer the fuel implications and of course...Oh! the air wings. :)
