Fun, scratch multi-player TacOps game the past two evenings between Tony and Brad. Glad to see these two naval warfare gurus mixing it up, getting dirty with LAV-25's, LAV-AT's, LAV-M's, M60A3's, AH-1W, BTR-80's, T-54's, T-72M's, HIND-F's, 125mm Anti-Tank guns, and various off map arty and airstrikes. Much fun guys, thanks for letting me host, watch the battle-royal, and chime in with bugle calls from time to time.

Attack on Rommerbach The basis of this scenario is the Tactical Decision Game #98-10, written by Major John F. Schmitt, USMCR, and published in the October 1998 Marine Corps Gazette. http://www.mca-marines.org http://www.mca-marines.org/gazette/PDF/9810.pdf This battalion level scenario was thought to lend itself to a two-person network game as the host/umpire is required to coordinate the entry of one side’s forces, and “feed” information to the other side in way to shape the battle along the original intent of the “What do you do now Colonel?” Tactical Decision Game. It could be described as more of a kriegsspiel type of scenario, how will one side react, t…

Thanks to a very generous surprise I played my first TacOps battle just now. The Joint Chiefs would do well do send me to command school or leave me out on the Blue Water Harpoon Ops! Victory was mine but at an inordinate cost. Thanks to Artillery and Air Support (and using my M1 takes fairly intelligently) my forces were successful in taking the objective and eliminating the OpFor. If I hadn't already committed to some Harpoon playing today surely I'd be refining my technique, learning what the controls actually mean, etc! Note how I lost all of my APCs Time Left: 9 minutes Mission results: Blue - Mission accomplished Red - Mission failure P…

Spent 3hrs of game time (<1hr) conducting cat and mouse ASW between an approaching Burke DD and Perry FFG versus a lurking Kilo. The Kilo often detected the US ships but was waiting for the prized LHD, who was trailing by 10nm. The fact that the US ships could detect a contact occasionally allowed it to warn the LHD, LSDs to stand clear and the Perry was rotating SH-60B's. Through this play through the Kilo often avoided detection, and when it could not avoid, the US ships failed their localization. Awfully Slow Warfare is the word of the day. I need an idea of how long the sub would play this game before breaking contact and try a re-approach. The sub is lyi…

I won't be doing this for a few months, but I'm planning to do a Harpoon 4 game over at Myth-Weavers. The scenario I intend to do- after a quick one from "High Tide"- will be an epic recreation of the assault on the Varyag and Novorossiysk groups from Barrett Tillman's The Sixth Battle. Anyone interested?

I received my long awaited Solo Ranger from Omega Games, updated and re-released for its 25th Anniversary. It is not a typical hex and counter, or even area movement wargame. It comes with laminated maps, a military-type protractor, dice, and a gazillion mission cards. There is a paragraph based Tactical Events book that guides you through your mission. My first and only game so far was a squad reconnaissance patrol to scope out a enemy rocket site. You plan various aspects of the mission, how much ammo, what other ordnance or gee-whiz gear is carried and by who. Amongst personal weapons, we carried an AT-4, bino's, AN-PVS-7's, extra 5.56mm, extra 7.62mm, safety …

Shapeways New interest is being generated in modern miniatures. Some are being created in both 1:2400 and 1:6000, in particular 1:6000 Modern Chinese PLAN. I have a set of 1:6000 PLAN Type 052 DD, Type 054A FF and Type 071 Amphib with hovercraft. I'll try to post pics once I receive them and get them painted up. We'll see. There is also a 1:6000 Naval yahoo group for those interested. Designer is open to Dreadnaughts as well. 1:6000 Naval

Hello all, I hope you all don't mind me posting up a PBEM game I'm playing against Dewayne Harris. It's not Harpoon but it sure has been an interesting game and I thought I would share it with you. I'm playing the ever peace loving Japanese Empire against the evil Allied Powers. Currently we're up to spring of 1942. However, I will provide all the pertient moves (good and bad) up til then. More to follow....

I'm planning to a Cold War espionage RP, in the style of the 80s shows like Airwolf, MacGyver and The A-Team. I'm planning to set it in 1981, so I need to know a bit about the military balance then. * When precisely did PVO Strany change its name to Voyska PVO? Why? * What type of MiG-21 were the East Germans using at that point? What missiles did it carry? * How many strategic nukes did each side have? You're welcome to join- please PM me.

World at War: Operation Garbo arrived yesterday. It is an expansion module for World at War: Blood and Bridges, and whose setting is LNLP's fictictious World War III in the Spring of 1985. This module focuses on a Soviet invasion of Sweden. The box comes with two map boards, 176 5/8" counters representing Swedish and Soviet units, six scenarios within a scenario booklet which includes some module spefic rules, and two Player-Aid Cards. One map is somewhat more wooded than the other, which is described to better represent "typical" northern Sweden. As the module has begun to arrive and be inspected, some concerns have been voiced, in particular a "Moving Fire…

These scenarios, "Battle of the Garagiola River" and "Battle of the Garagiola River Revisited" are authored by LtCol. John F. Schmitt, USMCR and are found in his book "Mastering Tactics", Copyright 1994 by Marine Corps Association. The scenarios were originally published in the October 1992 and December 1992 editions of Marine Corps Gazette respectively. "Battle of the Garagiola River" - Map293 Situation: You are the commander of 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (reinforced) consisting of Companies I and K on assault amphibious vehicles (AAVs) near the Garagiola River, Company L on trucks at Androida, a light armored reconnaissance (LAR) company west of the river, and a…

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and am wondering what aids there are for playing Harpoon/CaS/FG&DN by email. Back in the old days, I had programmed using Quick BASIC a game assist program to keep track of various platforms. It did quite a bit, allowing the game moderator to input the orders from the players and then generate search result reports for the players. It kept track of location, heading, speed, depth or altitude, sensor status, damage and also tracked the turns when missiles or torpedoes would strike. Sadly, I am no longer in possession of the program diskettes nor the energy or brain power to recreate it. Surely something similar could be d…

Gentlemen, While this is a Harpoon/Naval Warfare site, over time my persistent efforst to promote TacOps has finally gained some traction. Are any of you interested in a Command Post Exercise? This can be conducted one of two ways, the preferred method is everyone has TacOps and it is run as a network game, hosted by me, and communications done by use of mIRC or similiar client. Should the majority of you be intererested, but not have TacOps, and unable to download it for about $25 US, we could go the old route which is only the umpire needs TacOps, the rest of you would need the mIRC connection and a print out of the map that will be used. A player then gives…

Brief AAR Scenario Z TRAP AAR Scenario Z (TRAP) Scenario and Map by Nadir Elfarra. The game is a relatively old Avalon Hill wargame called MBT (Main Battle Tank). The was a follow on game called IDF which had the same rule set. A vassal mod has recently been released and the designer has been entertaining a re-release in the near future. Ground scale is 100m per hex. Time is the nebulous 1-5min per turn. Counters depict are individual vehicles/helicopters/aircraft/squads/half squads/weapons teams Scenario here. First Clash Map Modifications: The USMC ground force was changed to 3x Rifle Squad, 1x MG Team, and 1x Team (Assault – SMAW) Opfor Anti …

Despite small and off the top of my head after a few hours, this one is for Brains. It was a rough dipiction of the first mission flown by the author of Angles of Attack as a part of VA-145 on the first night of Desert Storm. I prepared 2x A-6E TRAM to attack the docks in Umm Qasr. They were both armed with a BAP-100 x6 Cluster Bomb under stations 1,5. An AGM-88 HARM and an AJM-C under stations 2,4. Here the weather was pleasant as opposed to the IR defeating nighttime mist/precipitation thesy faced. For this run through, the port facility was protected by a FCR directed KS-19 battery. There was an EWR-A further back inland. The 2x A-6E came in at T-Level…

This miniatures game is a well supported franchise. I've had and enjoyed FFT2 for some years now. FFT is a fast playing rule set. FFT's one "model" equals 1 platoon. Basing is decided by the user. 1 inch = 100m, or simply 1cm = 100m. Turn is about 12min per turn. A pdf is currently available at the wargamevault and spiral bound and hard cover versions coming to Lulu.
