Another idea for a minor "toy", curious but not very relevant (and clearly of the 1980-199X gap):

US Navy PB Mk III Patrol Boat Sea Specter (1973-1994)(data edited 19 November 2011 to change data from the newly adquired US Small Combatants - An Illustrated Design History, Norman Friedman, Naval Institute Press 1987):

20 meter/65 foot long, 31.5 tons light, Diesel, 27 knots. SS radar. 8 alternative weapons mounts for 106mm recoiless gun (only one in port side), twin torpedo tube (only one in port side), rocket launcher (only one in port side), 40mm Bofors Mk 3 Mod 7 or 9 with 48 rounds drum not very reliable, it was a WWII modernized gun with power feed, 30mm gun, 25mm Mk 88 chain gun, 20mm Mk 16 gun (twin or single), 40mm grenate launchers, 81mm mortars, 12.7mm (twin or single) and 7.62mm (twin or single) MG in many weapon mixes. Tested 1981-1982 with 4xPenguin MkII SSM.

From 1973 supplied to the Naval Reserve Force. Many exported. Asymmetrical bridge displaced to starboard. Aluminium construction. Reduced RCS. Three engines of difficult maintenance, centerline engine silenced for low and quiet speed.

Employed operationally at least 1987-1988 in the Tanker War of the Persian Gulf.

Names: eight: 65PB731 to 65PB738 (FY 73), ten: 65PB751 to 65PB7510 (FY 75), four for the Philippines 65PB771 to 65PB774 (FY 77) and four for the USN 65PB775 to 65PB778 (FY 77).

20 boats built for Iran and delivered from December 1975 to December 1976. Unknown number delivered of a further order of 1976 for 50 boats to be assembled in Iran. More powerful diesel engines for 30 knots, and armed with 1x20mm GAM-B01 gun and 1x12.7mm MG, LN-66 radar. Ten extant 1995.

Post edited 19 november 2011 to include links to pictures of those elusive boats and the aforementioned data from US Small Combatants, many mixed weapons, some apparently armed with 1x40mm Mk 3 Mod 9 gun forward, 1x40mm grenate launcher port-bow, 1x12.7mm starboard-bow, 1x81mm mortar port, 1x20mm gun aft, 2x12.7mm MG pq and sq:

Another very easy one:

BB-64 USS Wisconsin (1988-1991), not necessary, but more flavour:

Wisconsin has more modern Phalanx as her sisters, Block 1 and not Block 0. I've read it in some place, but I don't find it now, but is referenced in:

http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_Phalanx.htm

Also, she has space for eight RQ-2 Pioneer UAV (first employed in USS Iowa, as in the High Tide annex):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Wisconsin...E2.80.931990.29

And per the High Tide data annex, Wisconsin has SPS-64 radar vice LN-66.

What is the status of the upgrade for the German Brandenburg (F123) class frigates?

ESSM? (It seems that, as late as March 2010, they were still shooting RIM-7M).

MLG27?

RBS15 Mk 3, ETA?

What is the status of the upgrade for the German Brandenburg (F123) class frigates?

ESSM? (It seems that, as late as March 2010, they were still shooting RIM-7M).

MLG27?

RBS15 Mk 3, ETA?

No idea, but looking for data. Nothing of interest for now.

I've finded this little pdf about the Bundesmarine organization, with scarce data but colourful:

http://www.marine.de/portal/a/marine/!...D50IEUMQ0PH3066 (look for the first LINK in the page).

About MLG 27:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLG_27 ( only generic comments ).

The MLG 27 is to be found on practically all bigger units of the German navy, as for example to the frigates F122, F123 and F124, to the corvettes to K130 or the task force providers. Also on the new F125 frigates the application is planned. Besides, it substitutes for available 20 mm and for 40-mm Geschütze or also shows the first equipment. In the MLG 27 the German navy since 2003 uses the FAPDS ammunition also developed by Rhine metal.

About F-123, also only generic comments:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/F123

About the new sensors:

Main radar of the ships is the medium area radar 3D Signaal SMART PAGE (Signaal Multibeam Acquisition radar for Tracking, S. tape). It is supported by a wide area radar 2D Signaal LW 08. As a navigation radar two Sperry marine bridge master E are used. Besides, the frigates order of a bug sonar arrangement Atlas electronics DSQS-23BZ on the „dry side“ on DSQS-24B was armed. The Bavarians sonar system) was postprepared in 2006-2008 as an experiment with a towed sonar (Low Frequency Active. After successful ending this attempt all units should receive from 2011 the towed sonar FDSQS-30A LFTAS the atlas electronics.

Main arming of the ships is a Vertical Launching system Mk 41 with 16 cells for RIM-7 NATO Sea Sparrow which should be substituted in future with RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile. To the fight against sea sighting four sea homing body starters are available for Aerospatiale to MM 38 Exocet. Two RIM-116 RAM starter with 21 cells take over the neighborhood defence against approaching hostile missiles.

An Oto Melara the 76-mm Geschütz which can be used against sea aims, land aims and airborne targets is on the foredeck. Two MLG 27

by Rhine metal can be used in the defence against smaller sea aims.

The frigates became meanwhile moderniesiert.Die Sea-Sparrow a ground air rockets were substituted with the advancement and 20 mm Geschütze were renewed by 27 mm Geschütze.

For the U hunt the frigates order more than two double torpedo pipes Mk 32 Mod 9 for Mk-46 torpedos with impact fuse. A main U-hunting weapon are, nevertheless, both SeaLynx-board helicopters which are accommodated in the hangar on the quarterdeck.

The arming is laid out for the submarine hunt and the fight of angreiffender aims.

About the RBS 15 Mk3 in German service: As the first missiles were installed in the first F130 corvette as late as September 2011, I doubt very much they're retrofitted in this moment in the F125 frigates: http://www.kn-online.de/lokales/kiel/25246...che-Marine.html

Yeah, I'm aware that RBS15 Mk 3 just arrived for the Braunschweig corvettes. I was curious about an anticipated date for their arrival (perhaps in a Mk 4 flavour?) for the F123. And, in the interim, whether the F123 has yet received the ESSM and MLG27. I might be a bit surprised if the MLG27 hadn't been backfitted as they are already aboard the F122.

RF-4E Phantom II (Germany, 1971-1994): 88 delivered. Some with ESM. From 1982 all with ALE-40 and weapons delivery system. 5000 lb bombs, or 6xHunting BL755.

All of these have been added for the next iteration (to appear very soon). I had limited luck re-using loadouts, but since these are generally 'single purpose' aircraft, we'll make do.

Thanks by the new DB !!!

Just now I was thinking and working on French submarines (including Narval and Arethuse, they where in my old Harpoon Gold DB ... ). When I've some spare time I will add some eighties variants of other European SS and SSBN.

Now, I'm going to digest the new DB ...

Names: eight: 65PB731 to 65PB738 (FY 73), ten: 65PB751 to 65PB7510 (FY 75), four for the Philippines 65PB771 to 65PB774 (FY 77) and four for the USN 65PB775 to 65PB778 (FY 77).
[emphasis mine]

Should this part be PB751 through PB761?

Btw, found other useful sources here and here.

Ohh, yes, I saw it, but the book US Small Combatants, on his page 410 reads literally "followed by ten boats FY 75 (65PB751-7510 at Peterson)".

Some hours after I see the rationale about it. The designation must be 65PB7510 because they are FY 75 boats, the designation 65PB761 should be for a hypothetical FY 76 boat ! :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Update HCDB-111122 "digested", some minor errors:

F-4EJ entry 11080 should be equipped with APQ-120, not APQ-99.

RF-4C entry 10273 should be equipped with APQ-99 or APQ-172, not APQ-120 (and APQ-102 or APD-10 SLAR).

The Indian navy transferred entry 2996 Jalashva (Austin) weapons and sensor fit should be modified as the fitted to the entry 2230 Austin (1993) late-time standard.

Entry 3458 Raleigh (1984) lacks the sensor fit.

Entry 3460 Tomaston should be equipped with only three 76mm/50 Mk33 mounts in this time period.

The Mistral entry 2501 is equipped with 30mm CRN-91 (an indigenous design Indian gun), should be equipped with the 30mm/82 Breda.

The entry 3498 Caio Duilio was used as training ship and not fully updated as her sister Andrea Doria, should be equipped with SQS-39 sonar in substitution of SQS-23, and with SPS-39 radar in substitution of SPS-52 (Conway’s says in Caio Duilio was also replaced the SPS-39 antenna, but not received full SPS-52 electronics).

Thanks for the long-time awaited Escorteurs d’Escadre :) (modelled some years ago in my personal HC Gold DB ;) ).

http://www.netmarine.net/bat/ee/surcouf/index.htm

The entries 3468 and 3469 T-47 (Anti-air warfare variant) should carry a Mk13 GMLS launcher with SM-1MR (perhaps 59684), not the very later SM-2MR Block II.

Incidentally, a lot of data about the T-52 class (deleted 1981 and not a must). Good web site (in French) but of difficult navigation, use the site map:

http://users.skynet.be/mer/caract.html

About the freezing date of the DB:

My aforementioned idea was the DB was freezed in the early 1990s.

Now I think it was freezed mid-1989 (deleting on that date the ship names and types deleted between 1980 and 1989, as we are constating now), as the entry of the French Daphne-class SS lacks the boat names Diane (deleted 1987) and Daphne (deleted 1989), we would reinstate it ;)
