Requests for the HCDB (Official DB of HCE) and HCDB2

You can download the standard DB (HCDB 1980-2015) from here:

http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=235

After downloading, you unzip the file and replace the resulting commondb file on your HCE directory.

If do you want (and I'm sure do you want ;) ), you can import with the HCE Platform Editor this same commondb file to analyze it in deep ... simply pulse the virtual button "Import New Database".

Browsing on http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...s&showcat=3 you can see a multitude of DBs, some of them discontinued.

The cause is the limit of 2055 or so entries on each item of each DB, our main limitation now is the limited number of aircraft loadouts in the standard DB, also because that, they is not a standard DB, for instance, for the time period 1946-2012 and beyond in the future, we must segmentate the platforms on concrete time periods.

About the Club-K-armed merchant ships, any serious input about platforms (we don't include habitually speculative or never in-service platforms on this DB, partly because the aforementioned space limitations, partly because the sad demise of the RAH-66 Comanche and other similar cases, but the last word is of course of Brad ;) ) is ever welcomed, and about this concrete case, I'm shamed because I don't know what is a Club-K-armed merchant ship :o

We are ever learning naval history on this site, a month ago I've not idea about Sea Specter and find she very casually ...

Oh, I see, I think it's not in the DB because the mentioned causes:

How do we download and install the updated db? Also, does the DB include info on the Club-K-armed merchant ships? If not, I can get you some specs, for updating the HCDB.

The process is fairly simple, and explained here by Enrique as well as in the Download and FAQ sections of this website.

As for Klub (SS-N-27 Sizzler) armed merchant ships, I am guessing you are referring to the ISO containerized versions of the missile and launcher that made media attention a year or so ago.

I'm unaware of any sale of the system, as advertised, and in the interim, I am doubtful it would add much to the game. Maybe if and when we can delve deeper into the mechanics of sides (neutrals, blue, red, etc).

Specs wouldn't be a problem.

Shoot me your email offline (I'm sure you have mine through HarpGamer). I did an assessment, for my company last year, it's a wicked system. I'll send you a PDF copy, which has links to the Rosobornexport demo video. Although it hasn't been sold, it would definitely add some serious "what-ifs" to the game.

It's interesting the the Brits new land attack cruise missile hits a flatbed-mounted Club-K launcher in the demo video BAE Systems produced a few months ago.

My company is going to Pacific and DIMDEX 2012 again this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see some additional press about it there. Will keep you posted.

Its not that an armed merchant is not a useful tool for scenario building (we have some already), but current game mechanics prevent a neutral ship (such as a unidentified merchant secretly carrying Klub) from suddenly going 'rogue' and attacking you as a player. It would have to be an enemy ship (e.g. Red) from the start of the game and therefore relatively easily identified and destroyed. There are some ways to fudge this a bit, but the general limitation remains (for now at least). That being the case, I'm not in any hurry to add it as a hypothetical platform in the DB. Especially as space is dwindling fast.

I understand completely. The system does have distinct assymetrical threat possibilities. Both Iran and Venezuela were interested in the system at DIMDEX last yaer when it was previewed (fancy that). Let me know you email and I can shoot you the assessment we did. What is the most recent HCDB? The one in the D/L area is dated 2007, but in a previous thread I saw you talking about a bunch of platforms that were added or altered.

BTW, you might remember me. I sent you the scenario "Threat Matrix" a few years ago, when Harpoon Classic Gold was being put togther (this would have been back in 2003). It good to be getting back into Harpoon again (and I can even do it as part of my work). I'm knocking around the idea of planning several scenarios centered around the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) alliance. I'll keep ya posted.

As Enrique has stated, the date of the most current HCDB is attached to its filename. For example, HCDB-111211 means it is the version uploaded on 11 December 2011. And I will PM my email address to you.

I do vaguely recall 'Threat Matrix'. It would be great to have new scenarios! Its our raison d'etre. ;)

A request of very easy execution and not requering a new loadout, finded when thinking about other first eigthies scenarios:

The E-2C Hawkeye is a high value aircraft and many airframes were updated many times from one variant to another and the production data are doubtous and confuse.

In the DB is present the E-2C Hawkeye Group 0 (1984), with APS-138 radar and in service from 1984.

We can add two variants more for older scenarios:

E-2C Hawkeye Group 0 (1973): with APS-120 radar, in service from October 1973, first cruise in the USS Saratoga on September 1974, some 55 built (We can remember the essential difference with E-2B/APS-120, the E-2B variants lack the ESM, introduced only from the first E-2C).

E-2C Hawkeye Group 0 (1978): with APS-125 radar, in service from 1978, some eight built (and perhaps others converted).

Table with radar types and in-service dates on page 56 of E-2 Hawkeye, Walk Around number 53, by Ken Neubeck, Squadron-Signal 2008, and others checkings.

Certainly within the realm of possibility. I will have a look.

About the Van Speijk/Ahmad Yani class frigates in Indonesian service, some new points to research:

Steam turbines replaced by many types diesel engines between 2003-2008, top speed now some 24 knots.

Some equipped with SS-N-26 Yakhont replacing Harpoon, others with C-802, apparently.

Historical note about the first refit dates when in service on the Royal Netherlands Navy for interest in the Cold War time period (new sensors, obtaining a Radar 1006 for navigation purposes on this time period (and not a Decca Series), 324mm TT, Limbo deletion; Harpoon and 76mm Compact, and other changes), a obscure data obtained at last from Janes 1981-1982:

Van Speijk: 12/76-1/78.

Van Galen: 7/77-11/79.

Van Nes: 3/78-12/80.

Tjerk Hiddes: 12/78-8/81.

Evertsen: 7/79-4/82.

Enrique, do you have an online source for the IOC dates, conversions, etc?

Oh, yes, but I insist, it's not a clear matter.

About "E-2C Hawkeye Group 0 (1973): with APS-120 radar, in service from October 1973"

Groundwork for the E-2C was laid by trials of the improved GE AN/APS-111 radar on an E-2A from 1965 into 1967, which led to the production AN/APS-120 radar. The AN/APS-120 featured an "airborne moving target indicator (AMTI)" capability that gave it a limited ability to spot moving targets on land. Two E-2A test machines were modified as prototypes of the E-2C, with the first flying on 20 January 1971. Trials proving satisfactory, the E-2C was ordered into production, with the first production machine performing its initial flight on 23 September 1972. The E-2C entered fleet service in November 1973.

Along with the improved AN/APS-120 radar, the E-2C also featured: ...

Hi, I was in Berlin the last week.

As the last iteration of the HCDB-120108 is very long, I'm going to post here some considerations, and other in succesive post.

Entry 3594 KAAN 33 (Turkish PG), values speed=7 and DP=43 are interchanged.

Hermes (1982) has only two Seacat mounts, not four as in the DB.

Some new old variants of old ships (as CVHG Invincible or Type 42) have reduced sound signature values (40 or so), but the original modern variants of the same ships are keeping the old and higher sound signature values (as 44 or so).

Entry 3625 Type 82 Bristol (81) has length, displacement and damage points of a Type 42.

Entry 3640 Type 22/1 (80/1) lacks the sensor fit.

Yeah, I realize that. Over the years, there has been some 'drifting' from the original distribution on the acoustic signatures. It is my intention to review the whole gamut and re-standardize.

But the current project for now is gun mounts and magazines.

Thanks for finding the typos too. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

The second and last post about the new platforms in the HCDB-120108 only very little typos, great :)

Entry 3645 Type 22/3 (88/2) lacks the ship names.

Entry 3681 Abdiel (1987) has RCS=0.

Entry 2199 Leander 2B has the ship name Minerva, as entry 2198 Leander 2A, I think it should be the ship name Argonaut.

Entry 2202 Type 21 (1983) has not ECM or decoys.

Entry 2579 Emilio Jacinto can be updated with the data of

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRP_Emilio_Jacinto_(PS-35)

adding a Bridgemaster radar, 2x20mm guns, 2x12.7mm MG replacing 7.62mm MG and a 25mm gun aft.

Entry 2718 Orla (Peacock) can be uptdated also with the data of

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%89_Orla_(P41)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%89_Ciara_(P42)

Basically adding 2x20mm guns replacing the 12,7mm MG, and replacing the Radar 1006 with 2xKelvin-Hughes.

Entry 3677 Round Table (86) lacks the sensor fit.

Entry 2210 Hunt (1989) has a pair of erroneous mounts, probably because are modified from other previous uses: 59987 Mk 29 Aspide aft and 59885 Crotale Naval NG aft (previously Marconi AMD).

Entry 3697 Reliant lacks the sensor fit.

Entry 3708 Meghna (1984) should have forward a Bofors 57mm/70 Mk1 gun, as per Jane’s 2004-2005.
