Entry 3460 Tomaston should be equipped with only three 76mm/50 Mk33 mounts in this time period.

Yes, the remainder removed circa 1977. Can you identify which mounts (position wise) were retained?

The entry 3498 Caio Duilio was used as training ship and not fully updated as her sister Andrea Doria, should be equipped with SQS-39 sonar in substitution of SQS-23, and with SPS-39 radar in substitution of SPS-52 (Conway’s says in Caio Duilio was also replaced the SPS-39 antenna, but not received full SPS-52 electronics).

I need a reliable source.

The entries 3468 and 3469 T-47 (Anti-air warfare variant) should carry a Mk13 GMLS launcher with SM-1MR (perhaps 59684), not the very later SM-2MR Block II.

A typo, thanks.

Incidentally, a lot of data about the T-52 class (deleted 1981 and not a must).

A possibility.

  • Enrique, if you would be so kind, can you post a list of the carriers where you think capacity needs to be adjusted, and some authority for the requested change. (And, as you know, HCCW has its own th

I don't see on line references about it.

The data are from the Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1947-1995:

Original sensor fit as in the Conway's:

Radar SPS-12, SPS-39A, SPQ-2; Sonar SQS-39

Modifications as in the Conway's:

Doria was modernised in 1976-78. Duilio was converted in a training ship (to replace San Marco) in lieu of full modernisation in 1979-80. The most important change was replacement of the Terrier missile by Standard SM-1(ER) .... Doria received updated sensors SPS-40 2-D air search radar in place of SPS-12, SPS-52 in place of SPS-39A (Duilio received the new flat array antenna but not full updated electronics), SPG-55C in place of earlier SPG-55A fire control radar and SQS-23 sonar in place of SQS-39 sonar (a variant of SQS-4). In Duilio classrooms replaced the former helicopter hangar and the after pair of 76mm guns and their NA-9 director were removed. By 1980, both ships had Italian RAN-3L (SPS-768) long range air search radars in place of the earlier US sets. Both also received new EW suites (SPR-4 intercept, SLQ-D jammers).

In Sea Forces of the World, by Christopher Chant, Brian Trodd Publishing House 1990, the different sonars are also quoted, and the SPS-40 has been replaced by RAN-3L in both ships, both keeping SPS-52.

Now I see it's also more or less referenced on the GDW 1990-1991 Data Annex:

Sensors:

SPQ-2, 3RM20

SPS-52, SPS-39

SQS-23 (A. Doria), SQS-39 (C. Duilio)

Caio Duilio refitted as training cruiser. Aft-facing 76mm and RTN-10X removed. Carries only 2 AB-212. RAN-20S vice SPS-52

Great. Thank you!

Some other easy ideas for platforms:

Netherlands Van Speijk (1976-1989) class frigates, very similar to the Leander batch 2 class:

As the entry 2541 Ahmad Yani (all the class was transferred to Indonesia), but with some minor differences:

Van Speijk, Van Gallen, Tjerk Hiddes, Van Nes as the entry 2541, LW.03, DA.05, Decca series, CWE-610/EDO 610 sonar, PDE 700/EDO 700 sonar.

Isaac Sweers, Evertsen, adds SQR-18 towed array.

Some forgetted transferred Newport-class LST:

Spain: two ships, Hernan Cortes, Pizarro. Transferred 1994 and 1995, Hernan Cortes deleted on 2009.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Harlan_County_(LST-1196)

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Harlan_County_(LST-1196)

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Barnstabl...unty_(LST-1197)

Malaysia: one ship, Sri Indera Pura, recommissioned 1995.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Spartanbu...laysian_Service

The present entry 6172 Kobben (Type 207) represents the six boats modernised and employed 1987-2001.

We can add a entry with the 15 unmodernised boats, Kobben (Type 207)(1966-1989):

Sensors: Periscope Radar (Subfar 100), CSU 3-2.

Torpedoes: Mk 37 mod 1/2, NT-37C, Tp61 ... and T1 (G7a !!!!).

Some forgetted transferred Newport-class LST:

Spain: two ships, Hernan Cortes, Pizarro. Transferred 1994 and 1995, Hernan Cortes deleted on 2009.

As luck would have it, already due to appear in the next release. :)

Included generally will be overhauls of the fleets for Australia, Spain and Turkey, among other updates.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks by the new platforms, digesting it ....

I suppose the UK revision (County class DDG, Type 42 without Phalanx and other things) is near ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I see some incongruencies in the FFG O.H. Perry-class USN variants, but I suppose it will be remodelled in a future.

Basically,

Entry 2223 O.H. Perry (1977-2003): it would represent the first period, short hull variants, without towed array sonar, RAST neither IR, with SPS-49(V)2, Mk 46 Mod2 (1971), SM-1MR Block V (1969), RGM-84A (1977) and Phalanx Block 0.

Entry 2222 Halyburton (1987-2003): it would represent the mid-period, long hull variants, with SQR-18 towed array sonar, SPS-49(V)2, Mk 46 Mod5 NEARTIP (1979), SM-1MR Block VI (1983), RGM-84C (1982) and Phalanx Block 0.

(And deleting the weird quotation in the text description (this text was my motivation in this matter): "The Halyburton class is capable of firing the SM-1 ER giving it improved area defense capability. These ships are more capable than the original Perry but are not as capable as the Underwood class which carries the SM-1 Block 6.")

Entry 2224 Underwood (1994-2003): it would represent the late period, long hull variants, with SQR-19 towed array sonar, SPS-49(V)5, Mk 46 Mod5 NEARTIP (1979)(and perhaps Mk50 Barracuda), SM-1MR Block VIb (1986?-2003), RGM-84D (1985) and Phalanx Block 1.

Sources: High Tide data annexes, various Jane's, Conways 1947-1995 and http://navysite.de/ffg/ffg7class.htm

(basically the same text without contradictions on all those places).

Some notes and clarifications about the complex Spanish DD Lepanto-class and sub-classes (Fletcher), also modelled in my HC Gold DB some years ago (Data mainly from Buques de la Armada Española. La Ayuda Americana y el Programa de Modernizacion. Juan Luis Coello Lillo. Aldaba Ediciones S.A., Madrid. ISBN 84-86629-54-3, and from http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clase_Lepanto_(Fletcher) ):

After the 1966-1967 modernization all boats equipped with SPS-10, SPS-6C, SQS-29 replacing various older sensors and probably a commercial navigation radar:

First Group entry 3536 Lepanto (Fletcher/1) (Transferred on 1957), common mounts after the modernization: 5x127mm/38 Mk 30, 6x40mm/60 Mk1 (twin mounts), 6x20mm/70 Oerlikon (single mounts), 2xHedgehog Mk11 Mod 1/2.

Lepanto (Hull numbers, early/from 1961: 42/D-21)(1957-1985): 2x324mm TT3 Mk44/46 (from 1973-1974)(only on this ship the previous 6xMk6 Mod 1 Depth Charge projectors were deleted with the installation of the 32mm TT), 2xMk3 aft Depth Charge rails.

From 1980 detached from the Destroyer Squadron 21 (the Cinco Latinos) and on secondary roles as High Seas Patrol ship first in the Canary Islands Maritime Zone and from 1983 in the Cantabrian Sea Maritime Zone.

Almirante Ferrandiz (41/D-22)(1957-1987): 6x483mm TT1 ramps for Mk32 Mod 2 (1950?) ASW torpedoes, 6xMk6 Mod 1 Depth Charge projectors, 2xMk3 aft Depth Charge rails.

From 1980 detached from the Destroyer Squadron 21 and on secondary roles as High Seas Patrol ship in the Canary Islands Maritime Zone. Some incidents with Frente Polisario and with Moroccan Armed Forces in the eighties.

Second Group entry 3535 Lepanto (Fletcher/2) (Transferred from 1959), common mounts after the modernization: 4x127mm/38 Mk 30, 6x76.2mm/50 Mk33 (twin mounts), 2xHedgehog Mk11 Mod 1/2.

Almirante Valdes (43/D-23)(1959-1986): WLR-1, 533mm TT5 Mk15 p/s theorically for Mk15 but gauged for German G7a torpedoes (actually TT3, with the two more external tubes condemned), 2x324mm TT3 Mk44/46 (from 1973-1974), 4xMk6 Mod 1 Depth Charge projectors, 1xMk9 Mod 0 aft Depth Charge rails.

From 1982 detached from the Escort Squadron 21 and on secondary roles as High Seas Patrol ship in the Mediterranean Sea Maritime Zone.

Alcala Galiano (44/D-24)(1960-1988): T Mk6 Fanfare, WLR-1, 533mm TT3 Mk15 p/s theorically for Mk15 and/or Mk35 (1949) but perhaps gauged for German G7a torpedoes, 2x324mm TT3 Mk44/46 (from 1973-1974), 1xMk9 Mod 0 aft Depth Charge rails (Never equipped with DC projectors).

From 1983 detached from the Escort Squadron 21 and on secondary roles as High Seas Patrol ship in the Strait (of Gibraltar) Maritime Zone.

Jorge Juan (-/D-25)(1960-1988): T Mk6 Fanfare, WLR-1, 533mm TT3 Mk15 p/s theorically for Mk15 and/or Mk35 (1949) but perhaps gauged for German G7a torpedoes, 2x324mm TT3 Mk44/46 (from 1973-1974), 1xMk9 Mod 0 aft Depth Charge rails (Never equipped with DC projectors).

From 1983 detached from the Escort Squadron 21 and on secondary roles as High Seas Patrol ship in the Cantabrian Sea Maritime Zone.

Some minor considerations about the HCDB-111211:

Submarine entry 6405 Romei (Tang) lacks sensors (Incidentally in the text the sensor named BQG-5 PUFFS should be called BQG-1).

The Audace (1980) entries 30502 and 30503 have a entry 59688 Mk 13 mount with the very later SM-2MR Block II (1984), it should be equipped with 59684 SM-1MR Block V (1969).

I think entry 3509 Alpino (1997) should be classified as MCM.

Entry Carabiniere was equipped with 8xAster 15 from October 2000.

Entry 3518 DD HMAS Vampire: the LW.02 and 2xWM.22 radars were apparently keeped, as in this picture of the preserved ship in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Exc..._Sydney_024.jpg

All the River and Yarra Australian frigates are equipped with WM.20 and LW.02 (and not Radar 994 (AWS-4)), as per photographic evidence.

Entry 3538 Santa Maria (94) lacks the ship names (Navarra, Canarias).

Entry 3539 Baleares (1980) and entry 3540 Baleares (1987) lacks the sensor fit.

Entry 3548 Anaga: the main gun is an old 76mm/50 Mk22 of discarted US ships, not a modern 76mm/62 OTO Melara Compact as was originally pretended. The named Consilium Selesmar radars I suspect are local commercial names for Sperry Mk 127E (Consilium Selesmar SRL MM950 F/I-band) and Decca 1226 (Consilium Selesmar RTM 12X/M I-band):

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clase_Anaga

http://www.losbarcosdeeugenio.com/barcos/es/es/ae_P24.html

http://www.armada.mde.es/ArmadaPortal/page...ros-clase-anaga

Entry 3549 Alcitepe (82) has the speed number erronously transcripted, 34, not 43 !!!

Some irrelevant, but the number of ASROC reloads in FRAM I destroyers are 9, as we can see in (the nine dots in the after superstructure) the USS Fiske:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/842.htm

http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/0584201.jpg

and more clearly on:

http://www.gyrodynehelicopters.com/asroc_loading.htm

About the SPS-29 or SPS-40 radar in the Turkish DDs: by photographic evidence on navsource.org, a number of they were equipped with SPS-29 at the start of the Turkish service, and later equipped with SPS-40, and I think only Yucetepe retains SPS-29 to the end of her career.

Some minor considerations about the HCDB-111211

Thanks, Enrique. Your 'proof reading' efforts are much appreciated.

The next iteration - probably to be released later this week - will focus on the UK but after that I will get to things like the overhaul of the OH Perry entries.

How do we download and install the updated db? Also, does the DB include info on the Club-K-armed merchant ships? If not, I can get you some specs, for updating the HCDB.

Greg
