  1. The concept that it is entirely fair that 64 x F-15 in one unit are assumed to be aligned to every potentially detecting radar in a way that makes them no more visible than a single F-15 (i.e. a single detect chance at the base F-15 RCS) yet 64 x F-15 each with a different loadout would have 64 detection runs against them.
  2. I'm loving the discussion! At this point I find both extremes similarly far-fetched (four aircraft being 4 times as detectable and 4 aircraft being only as detectable as one). Further discussion may suggest there is a compromise along the continuum, whether it is worth implementing as Brad raises, is also a valid question. At first blush I don't think implementing a qty-based equation for radar would take much programming effort.
  3. That is a decent discussion opener, I will need concrete rules with specific equations and numbers to actually implement. My example was assuming the "all other things being equal" concept suggested by F-15s all around. The radar reflectivity is governed by the RCS value in the database.
  4. PSA: If you are considering using this database, please consider Eric's HCEEFDB http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/864-hceefdb-141210/. It is a fork of Brad's HCDB to expand into more Fictional platforms and modifications.
  5. The chopping up and shredding video is rather disturbing.
  6. Yes, larger groups of aircraft are easier to detect. I don't quite recall, but I don't think missile groups are treated the same? Tony can check for that. In terms of HC Radar: Aircraft and Missiles are the same, here's the gist of it. A unit can represent one ship. A unit can represent one base/installation. A unit can represent 1-255 aircraft of the same type and loadout. A unit can represent 1-255 missiles of the same type. Increasing the number of aircraft in a single unit, say from 2 x F-15C Intercept to 8 x F-15C Intercept does not make them easier to detect. Analogously increases from 2 x RGM-109E to 128 x RGM-109E does not make them easier to detect. However, putting 2 x F-15C Intercept and 2 x F-15C Intercept II into a group will result in two units meaning detection will be tried against each unit, so the group as a whole is easier to detect than 4 x F-15C Intercept as a single unit. If we had some rules writers in the house they could write rules for me to plug in to remedy the inequity. If that wasn't clear enough, please re-phrase and I'll answer again.
  7. Very nice writeup by Mr. Carlson of Harpoon fame.
  8. Oh awesome! Sorry for the wrong advice
  9. as broncepulido noted... In other words there is no facility to edit or remove existing notes. If it is a one-time deal though I can strip them out for you.
  10. Take a gander at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/2368-airborn-asw-search-plan/ In the game most NATO aircraft have an integral ESM capability so adding Wild Weasels won't change anything sensor-wise. You would use the Wild Weasels to carry anti-radiation weapons to take out radars. If you are playing with older Soviet platforms then wild weasel aircraft may well be the only birds with ESM in your air group. One might look in the "Database Design & Discussion" set of forums, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/forum/6-database-design-discussion/You can contact CV32 to see if there is any way to help him.
  11. I'm not sure if your question is about the name HUCE vs. HCE or why a beta vs. a released version. a. Name HUCE vs. HCE. To me, they are all Harpoon Classic (HC) and HUCE and HCE were marketing-speak that just confused players and those of us trying to help. Anyway, the current betas are built upon the code of HUCE which in turn was just updates from HCE which in turn was just updates of HC (which in turn was just updates of the original computer Harpoon). b. Why beta? Computer Harpoon is in a strange situation. There is no publisher for the game at present so I doubt Matrix would exert the effort to publish an official patch, if they are even able to legally (I haven't asked as yet and don't know). Nobody has stopped up from working on the code (crazy us being in a position to have our efforts stopped at any moment). So we release betas that for the most part are every bit as quality as a real release.
  12. The new additions are great! Some refactoring and you would have a great replacement for the "Report" window.
  13. Formation patrols can interfere if you are using the same aircraft for formation patrols and Long Range actions (Attack/Ferry/Patrol). Plus, your concern is almost certainly on the GE side (Game Engine/Winharp32.exe) and not the Scenario Editor. You can always create an issue report with the smaller scenario possible to recreate the issue.
  14. Yes, interested and totally agree on the "keep it small" concept.
  15. It has begun in 2015.014... Expanded in 2015.015 to much more easily look up information when you have a unit you want to relate to its database information.
  16. Updated to version 12 with some code to parse the database for donaldseadog.

HCE - 2015.015 - 2015-08-20 ========================== - Chg:0000 GE Incremented DLL Interface version to 13 for the following... - Chg:0000 GE ExportDll interface added pointers to functions in the funcRefs: PHCDLL_FUNC_REF linked list sent by DLLInit: annex_id_to_disk_id(ID): ID - If you pass in a Memory AnnexID, you will get a Disk AnnexID back out IF that item is present in the scenario. If you pass in a disk_id it will be returned back to you so there is no danger in running a disk_id through the function.
  18. Yes, you can try out the scenario editor and ask questions until you get it squared away or beg and plead for someone to make the modification for you.
  19. Welcome San! 1) As Eric wrote, in the stock game you will want to plot the course for the search pattern manually and then drop buoys manually as well. There is an add-in from donaldseadog that you can use once you feel comfortable stepping outside the stock game. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/809-toolbox/ 2) HUCE is the only version of computer Harpoon still being maintained and improved so I would say it is the right one to concentrate on. Are you having stability issues? Again like Eric wrote, make sure you are at least at 2009.097 and when you want to go beyond, start using the betas. They are usually as stable or more stable than 2009.097 and introduce a 32-bit scenario editor that will run on 64-bit versions of Windows without using a virtual machine (Wscenedt32.exe). http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/2049-current-files/
  20. It has begun in 2015.014...

HCE - 2015.014 - 2015-08-13 ========================== - Chg:0000 GE Incremented DLL Interface version to 12 for the following... - Chg:0000 GE Added AnnexData to ScenLoad ExportDLL call. This first lists the number of items in each database annex then has the raw data for each annex. The unlimited annexes are not a part of this structure yet (Ship names, Platform text descriptions, Magazines, BattleSet strings).
  22. Here is how to install the beta versions when Windows thinks you shouldn't. On the first screen click "More Info" On the second screen click "Run Anyway" Windows is doing a smart thing in that it is trying to prevent you from running programs that are unsigned. Signing gives a measure of assurance that the file is really from who it says it is from and in turn that it may actually be what it says it is. Historically it has been expensive and time consuming to get the signing up and running. HC being a hobby has meant spending money and time on something I don't much care about was a low priority, especially in versions of Windows where running unsigned executables was not even indicated to the user. The last couple of Windows versions have become pretty insistent on the warning front so it may be time to change that. Until then, your work-around is above.

Thanks guys for reporting this. I admit I'm clueless why it didn't crash for me since I ran it on Win 7, Win 8.1 and Win 10 (pre-release). In any event, thanks to the reports it was fixed up quickly. In reports of issues we are always interested in steps to reproduce since the logging most often doesn't give enough detail on its own. Thanks again!

HCE - 2015.013 - 2015-08-06 ========================== - Chg:0000 GE Undid "Started cleaning up some 16-bit code in the graphics loading and displaying routines (dibfiles)."

    Please try 2015.013.
