  3. Hi Mark, since there´s no reply and yesterday the ANW version of your idea was published by Herman Hum, using his database, I assume you´ve chosen your partner and thus the issue is closed for me. Regards, Ralf
  4. "It gets hot" A HCE scenario written by Donald Thomas aka donaldseadog Battleset: EC 2003 GIUK Database: HCDB The scenario is designed to be played from the British = blue side. After Action Report, Part I by Ralf Koelbach Another scenario focusing on a France vs. Britain conflict. The English Channel will be the battlefield and a lot of assets are in the game. 1. First steps Since the Channel is small and easy to cross for fighter bombers, safety first is to choose. I ferry several aircraft from the Northern bases to forward ones in order to build up a fortress close to the Channel. The carrier group leaves RN Devenport and its aircraft and helos are ferried to the Ark Royal. 2. First contact After a few minutes contact is made: several hostile aircraft heading for my carrier group! 3. Three Mirages downed by RN Devenports Harrier CAP. Many more inbound. 4. Armat ARMs from the South, heading for my carrier group! That will be close. 5. Two more Mirages shot down. 6. My Tornados and Typhons arrive just in time and down eleven more Mirages. The first attack wave has been destroyed. 7. A group of six Super Etendards, heading for one of my bases, has been wiped out by a pair of Tornados. Meanwhile my first SEAD attack versus a French mobile SAM site was a success. 8. What the hell are Neuron UCAVs? Six just popped up right besides a pair of Tornados. Two shot down, Typhons ordered to support. 9. The surviving four Neurons kill a mobile SAM site, but are shot down by the Typhons. Those Typhons are real good interceptors; they shot down six Jaguars a few seconds later. 10. Game over - minimum victory conditions achieved!? Intended? I think the fight has just begun since tons of red aircraft are approaching from the Souh East. Maybe just a little bug in the Minimum Victory Conditions? After Action Report, Part II 11. Massive dogfighting over the Channel. First losses for me, six aircraft. Eight or nine more kills. It becomes tough. 12. More dogfighting. Two more losses, but over ten kills. How mayn Rafales does he have? My Typhoons are better platforms, but scarce. 13. Two Rafales kill four of my Northern SAGs helos before they are downed by ship bases SAMs. 14. Meanwhile a combined SEAD and PGM attack destroys a French SAM site. 15. Lost another couple of those invaluable Typhoons, but got a dozen more Rafales and Mirages. Kill ratio is good, about 5:1 16. Heavy air attacks on my carrier group, mobile SAM site and bases.Dozens of attackers, Jaguars and Super Etendards. 17. I´m desperately short of fighters. But I´ve downed 99 ac so far. How many more does he have? 18. Meanwhile I´ve downed 123 ac and lost 20. Hope that he has no reserves since I have not many fighters left. 19. RN Devenport has been hit. 21 per cent damage.Simply not enough fighters and SAMs left to defend against all those raids. 20. Counterattack! Two flights of SEAD-armed Tornados are heading for French bases. 21.I blinded several sensors; time to go after the sites with other loadouts. 22. Ouch! Just detected a French carrier group, centered around the Charles de Gaulle, approaching from the North east, heading towards my home turf. This means many more Rafales. It means alos, that I´m between the buttons. 23. Strategy: I have to weaken the French bases and airfields. 24. Execution: Attack with the strategical reserve, the 18 GR.4 Tornados. Loadout: Storm Bringer, target: Paris. 25. Paris is guarded by Patriot batteries. This costs me a high price. But it is necessary to kill the sensors in order to deliver heavy punches with cruise missiles. 26. Working hard on Brest, too. One attack after the other. Harriers, Bucs and Tornados. 27. Just after I discovered a French SSBN approaching from the Atlantic...the game is over! Victory. This is an very entertaining scenario. Thanks, Don! ...and to be honest: I´ll play on. There is much left to attack and destroy: - the hostile carrier group just coming closer - many hostile bases and SAM sites - hostile subs So one hint for the designer: Maybe make the VCs both minimum and total harder to achieve.
  5. Sounds interesting, too! It will be the next on my play list. Regards, Ralf
  6. Hi Mark, Since I have always admired your small, sensible scenarios (one of my all time favs is "Jap Fish") , it would be a pleasure for me to build it for and with you. Best Regards, Ralf
  7. After Action Report, Part II 13. Analysis: - I have a first contact which could be the hostile carrier group - The first and closest hostile basis is destroyed - a hostile taskforce, moving westwards through the English Channel, has been decimated by maybe 50 per cent, but it is still an asset not to be neglected 14. conclusions: - it is too early for an all out attack on the possible carrier group - first, sink that task force moving towards the possible carrir group - second, destroy at least one more hostile base - then focus on the carrier group 15. Execution - here we go! The land based Hawkeye is up again and has a firm contact on the task force. Four or five ships left. 16. Six SEs conduct the first strike and sink two ships. 17. Six more SEs underway to finish off the hostile SAG 18. Torpedo contact! My SSN Rubis, shadowing the possible carrier group has been detected, while its commander increased speed in order to keep close contact to the group. 19. The party begins In order to provoque the possible carrier group to go on emcon active, my SSN Rubis starts firing missiles and torpedoes on the one contact it has. 20. More contacts, the hostile group lights up - yes - the carrier group! 21. The Rubis sinks an Type 42 DDG 22. I redirect the Rubis towards the carrier and into Exocet Range. 23. Two Exocets and four torpedoes underway. Will it become a short story, with a Golden Goal? 24. The air strike sinks one more ship and damages one. Two left, one damaged. 25. Two torps hit and sink the Ark Royal! 26. Game over - victory! 27. Few seconds later the last two ships of the SAG moving westwards are sunk by Scalp CMs. I wonder if that would work in reality. Since I´ve won I end the game and leave the remaining ships of the British carrier group alive. That was a nice scenario, many thanks to donaldseadog! Ralf
  8. "Napoleon's revenge" A HCE scenario written by Donald Thomas aka donaldseadog Battleset: EC 2003, Atlantic Ocean Database: HCDB The scenario is designed to be played from the French = red side. After Action Report, Part I The headline sounded promising: Napoleon's revenge -nice! The opponents are France and the United Kingdom, they have without a doubt a long common history. Ok, let's start with a force composition check: - a powerful carrier group centered around the Charles de Gaulle - three nuclear attack subs and - two airfields, one deploying the fine Rafale fighter bomber This should be enough to sink the Ark Royal, shouldn't it? On the other side there are several airfields on the British side. I must assume that there are Tornado fighters with long range AAMs. Evaluation: The Ark Royal carrier group should be doable. But the air threat from the British bases could be dangerous. Mission: First take out the bases, then the carrier group. My overall plan: 1. Set up an AAW screen for the forward base Lorient. 2. Rearm the carrier and land based Rafales with cruise missiles. 3. Strike at the bases in order to neutralize land based assets 4. Find the carrier group 5. Sink the Ark Royal The Battle: 1. Eighteen Rafales fire 36 Cruise Missiles at RN Devonport. Success! Damage is 81 per cent, weapon´s mount knocked down. If the ten CM armed Rafales on the carrier had longer legs I could knock down the whole RN base right now. 2. Second attack, this time only eight Rafales. Should be enough to finish RN Devenport off. RN Devenport is obliterated. Only six ac and two helos there, but more important is that all other British bases are far to the North. Thus it will be much easier to enagge the carrier group. 3. I ferry the main air force assets from Cazaux to Lorient, forward. Since RN Devenport is gone this should not be too risky. Basing them at Lorient makes it much easier to both attack the other British bases and the carrier group once it arrives in the English Channel. 4. Several air contacts to the North, certainly Sea Harriers from the carrier. I keep my carrier to the South. First I want to neutralize the bases. 5. Ten Rafales leave Lorient air base in order to attack RAF Aldergrove It nearly ended in a desaster: The Rafales suddenly faced a British surface group out of nowwhere! 180 degree turn on afterburner, but I shot all CM s at the surface group. Two British ships were sunk. I was lucky, all Rafales safely returned. 6. Critical decision: Shall I try to destroy the surface group? Is it worth the risk? First, I need better intelligence regarding that surface group. Problem: There are no land based AEW aircraft. Solution: I ferry one Hawkeye from the carrier to Lorient. Another reason to keep the carrier in the South. 7. Decision: Take the surface group out While ferrying towards France the Hawkeye gets clear contacts on the British surface group on its way towards the carrier group. I decide to take it out. Ten Rafales take off. 8. Only one kill. These missiles certainly were not intended to attack surface groups in the first line. 9. Another try: the Super Etendards Six SEs take off, armed with Exocets. Hope it won't be a Harakiri Mission. One more kill, no own losses. Call it a small success, biting the surface group bit by bit. 10. Next attack wave Ten carrier based Rafales on their way towrads the surface group. Another ship on its way to the bottom of the English Channel. 11. Next one Six land based SEs miss, six Exocets with no effect. 12. Contact! SSN Rubis reports a surface contact. It is very close. There are Sea Harriers patrolling above. If they´re armed with amrams, then it´s better to be very careful regarding air strikes. The perfect time for a break. Looking forward to my next session.
  9. Hi Frans, keep on with the good work! Regards, Ralf ..who still hopes for better times = having more time for naval warfare sims in the near future...
  10. Hi Tony, 1. Not currently with H3dsdedit 2. Not easily but you could keep text files of the battleset description and paste them into H3dsdedit Do you expect to be making new battleset files often that would maybe merit me looking at the editing capability? thx for your answers. As to 1: ok As to 2: Yes, that is the way right now then: writing the text for a dsd-file and copy and paste the text (before converting it into dsd) into a separate file. Then copy and paste again into H3dsdedit. No, it won´t happen so often since I´m always short on time and cannot write so many scens/battlesets. It´s an "nice to have" issue; don´t invest too much into it, Tony. Regards, Ralf
  11. Hi Dale, Yes, this type of tool. But I have two of those: The old one (from AGSi I think) and Tony´s newer one. My problem isn´t to create dsd-files, but to edit existing dsd-files in order to update and expand battlesets. At least to extract the text and import it in a new dsd-file. Regards, Ralf
  12. Hi Tony, for rewriting and expanding my Pason-battleset (for HUD 3) I use your tool H3dsdedit - great one! I´ve got two questions related to that: 1. Is it possible to edit an existing dsd-file? 2. Is it possible to extract the text from a dsd-file an copy in (using H3dsdedit) into a new dsd-file? tia Ralf
  13. Excellent! thx, Tony Regards, ralf
  14. Hi Tony and Brad, is it possible that you create a new subsection "Battlesets" (like it exists in the HC section) in the H2/H3 download area? I would like to store battlesets there. thx in advanace, Ralf
