Crap. Just Crap. So thought Admiral Konstantin Sidenko as he slid the vodka bottle away across the desk and looked at the telex one more time. Japanese at Yuznho-Kurilsk, and I have to kick them out. And just three months until a nice retirement, the Black Sea villa, the wine cellar, the mistress, oh, the mistress...Crap! What rotten luck. I wonder who told them what lousy shape we're in. He stood up, put the bottle in the cabinet across the room. No more of that for a while. He put some water in the samovar for tea and assessed the situation. In a large sense, he was "screwed" as the Americans put it. Years of low budgets and corruption had sapped the Far East …

  4. I played this scenario as RED (Russia) You are given command of 5 submarine groups operating in the North Sea. Your task is to kill the UK carrier Queen Elizabeth as well as any escorts, that may be escorting her. You have a few ASW and recon assets in Kola Airfields, but no strike aircraft. I started off by checking bearings and speed of my submarines. They all made sense, so I left them untouched, with the exception of lowering speed on a couple of groups to make detection by the British harder. A few aircraft were launched from the Kola airfields. I then accelerated the game, since I didn't expect much to happen. The first report came in from the di…

  7. File Name: "Iron Lady" SNS Dedalo, Mediterranean ASW 1989 File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 17 Apr 2011 File Category: MEDC A Mediterranean basically ASW scenario inspired by the old scenario booklets of the Harpoon 3 series of the late 1980s and early 1990s, good for easy gameplay and for testing generic tactics and weapons. Actually is a mix-up of individual naval scenarios as only the Computer Harpoon can provide. And reflecting all the knowledge adquired the last years in some matters, as about Soviet/Russian platforms and forces composition. The scenario is also a tribute to the USS Cabot CVL-28/SNS Dedalo R01 and her American and Spanish crews. De…

After Action Report: Korean Gulf [spoiler Alert] A scenario by Mark Gellis Mark Gellis, a long time scenario writer, has produced another benchmark for anyone interested in small sized but very effective and entertaining scenarios for Harpoon Classic. My Korean ship group comprised six commercial tankers and a pair of South Korean Navy warships – the Ulsan class frigate Chung Nam and the Okpo (KDX-1) destroyer Ulchimundok, and embarked with the latter, a pair of Super Lynx helicopters. The group was already assembled outside the port and airfield at Abu Dhabi and would have to transit the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman under Iranian threat. Fortun…

Are other folks seeing weirdness in EC2003 IOPG scenario 5 (HDSK5.0) "Those Traveled Roads"? Specifically, installation place names coming up as not matching their proper names, or otherwise shown as "donotuse" ?

I'm not getting much help from the manual on this. After entering a leg or two, I hit Enter Alternate Path and get the "Enter Points for Alternate Path" showing in my dialog box. However, I can't click on the map or move my active waypoint selection via Prev or Next. I'm a little lost as to what to do on that step. I have a good grasp on the way it works, I just don't quite grasp what I need to do with the interface to get them in. I seriously need a primer on the flow of entering an alternate path. Thanks!

Here (Harpgamer) Review: First impressions: On first opening the scenario I am greeted with an enormous order of battle and a very wide area of operations. Before engaging the clock it was of the utmost importance that I got dug in to the OOB and the scenario orders. Processing that and setting up my combat units and orders took me in the region of 1 and half to 2 hours. I had never opened a monster scenario, so this was my first taste of such a beast, I was determined to b…

What´s up? You face stiff Irani resistance from aircraft, ships and submarines. How things went for me: In the first attempt; I managed to sink two red SAGs and a sub. Note: This scenario is designed mostly to be played from the US/Blue and it's better to play that side in first place, and to play it later from the Iranian/Red side because it can be a little frustrating and boring, but the victory is also possible. Operation Praying Mantis was the Reagan administration answer to the Irani attacks on neutral tanker shipping and inmediate consequence of the mining deployed from the LST Iran Arj against the USS Samuel B. …
