At Grumble's sugerence, I start this new topic. Today Tony has do a lot of changes in the HCE 2009-82 Game Engine, with a very impressive list of recovered features http://harpgamer.com...e-notes/page-11 The neutrals no detecting more enemy units for the player's side also speeds up the gameplay a lot! (as in WWII scenarios the neutral merchants reporting one and other time previously detected enemy units). Testing the drone scenario I see the gameplay is very improved, now the game runs very smooth, perhaps not slowed because the neutral detecting enemy units. The air-to-ground guns are effective now! I hope to test ASuW weapons against submarines latest, and other …

I recently downloaded HC2015.028SE to get access to the Scenario Editor in Windows & (64 bit). I would like to stop using the old editor in virtual XP. The editor that I downloaded seems to work fine with a couple of exceptions. 1. When I select ships or planes and use "DISPLAY" in the selection window, a box with a picture and text comes up. However, when I select "Weapons" the resulting box has internal windows which are too narrow. The damage is outside the right edge of the lower box and the ranges of some aircraft are truncated. 2. I can create bases from the pull down menu, but when I use CTRL+B, I get a position box. I was wondering if their is a la…

HC 2020.006 is seeing refinement of how nuclear weapon effects are distributed in the game. 2020.004 had a quick fix to prevent the game from crashing when a nuclear weapon destroys units from 2+ neighboring groups in just the right order. 2020.006 comes back and makes the nuclear weapon damage application more correct than ever. A sampling of ge.log messages from my test build... 1454480 Combat4.c:1411 - HandleNuke 2 x UGM-133A Trident II D5 from Michigan attacking Ningbo; 8 units in 9.00nm damage radius 1454480 Combat4.c:1411 - HandleNuke 1 x UGM-133A Trident II D5 from Michigan attacking Ningbo; 4 units in 9.00nm damage radius 1454505 Combat4.c:1411 -…

...Hello - I've looked through the site for an answer to this one, but to no avail. I'm running HCE with the new battlesets (America, South Africa, etc) on my new Win7 laptop - the game runs like a champ, but SE refuses to run. I get an error message that says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see if you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher." Has anyone else run across this yet and if so, how did you sort it out? Thanks in advance.

I noticed somewhere there's a hot key to the (new) "zero" time acceleration (pause, but can still use windows and issue orders etc) in the beta GEs. The hot key is alt ctrl P. In case you haven't noticed it it is very good for those hectic moments when you have been cruising along at high game speed but suddenly need the world to stop NOW. I wonder if it could be twiddled to work from the assistants advise box, you know the sort where he says, something like "every known missile is headed towards you, would you like to turn on your radar?" I just want to give a shout of thanks to broncepulido for the issue reports he has created the last week or so. It is heartening to see them documented. Please support him and the game by verifying his reports (i.e. does the problem happen for you too?), adding detail, and adding your own thoughts on what the correct behavior might be. My Harpoon time is currently focused on the XML scenario file experiment so I won't get to the issues for a while, show your support by taking part in the issue tracking process. Thank you

Ladies & Gentlemen: I'm returning to Harpoon. Purchased Harpoon Ultimate Edition from Matrix. Had DVD shipped because of poor internet connection. Just installed on a new week old Windows 10 machine. Installation went find and the game is running. Checked the version # and it was 2009.050. So I conclude that I must run updates from Matrix website. Do I need to run the 10/10/13 V2009.097 update then run the 1/4/16 V2015.027 update? Or can I run just the 1/4/16 update (does it include the 10/10/13 update)?

File Name: turncoat.ps1 File Submitter: Grumble File Submitted: 13 Aug 2013 File Category: Tools/Mods/Docs turncoat.ps1 is a simple Powershell script that will set the player's side in HCE save game file. It does this by overwriting bytes 0x12b and 0x12c of the file so be careful what do you feed it. The script does rudimentary checking to make sure it is working with an actual HCE save file but you use it on your own risk. The location of these bytes will probably change when the format of the save file changes, the script works for me currently, as of 2013/08/10, with the 2009.086 GE save files. It would take much more than these two bytes to properly swit…

Hi first post. I had the urge to try HCE again after a long hiatus so logged into my Matrix account and download the two files (install & patch) but there seems to be a file size error in the downloaded files. I have the orginal HCE cd but I dont have a cdrom drive in a pc near me. Have I done something wrong?

I was curious, how realistic is harpoon? I know its probably one of the most realistic war game out there but just how close is it to real life? I'm guessing the ASW techniques and formations are pretty dead on, but what about the actual combat? Like for example; Is it realistic to fire 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles all at the same time at one target because you know some will be shot down? Or in real life do they fire one or two per target then if they are shot down then fire more? (I understand SEAD operations would be carried out prior) Are SAM defenses really so effective? In HCE, they seem to do a pretty good job, but in real life it seems lik…

I've noticed that my inner AAW ring units just seem to cruise along at the set speed lately. I thought they were supposed to sprint & drift like the ASW ring. Are my wires crossed? Did this change recently or did I get this mixed up with H3? Can I will them to S&D if I stare real hard at the formation editor?

Howdy folks! jeffteacher23 here. I read RSR way back when and stumbled onto Harpoon v3 paper game about 1989 or so. I really like to run/referee a game between different players, As soon as v5 drops I plan on getting a copy and learning it. Then I'll need some players. I'm in Mainland China just north of HK, so it will probably be slow going until action is joined, then it will have to be on a weekend for the resolution via zoom and email for privileged communications. Any interest? I hope so!
