This may or may not be obvious (or useful) to you, I often use the scenario editor and am frequently using it with non standard databases or going back over the previous scenario. You can open the scenario editor from Tony's "launcher" (in the downloads section if you haven't seen it) by overwriting "winharp32.exe" with "wscenedt.exe". You can make some of the selections such as battleset, scenario file and database. When you launch it (since the last update) you have saved all the settings from the last launch. To make it work well, copy the 'launcher.ini' file to another (any) folder, make a desktop (or other place) shortcut to the launcher.exe and call it scenario ed…

Testing old scenarios to constate DB editor is going fine, remembers me an old question. In relation to the attached screenshot and the lines "DEBUG Downes FF1070 PointDefense Got'm all" , Downes FF1070 effectively has expended all its ammo firing at the incoming missiles, some have been shot down (or not!) others not and have sunk poor Downes. The questions are: - In the simulation, the Phalanx is shooting down the incoming missiles, or it's only applied its Point Defense Value, a value unknown to me? - The Point Defense Value has any relation with the mount field "Auto", what reads "1" in this concrete case? - If not, the mount field "Auto" is o…

I run into this situation quite a bit, but fail to see why it is the way it is... so would someone please enlighten me? The situation is where an AI base that I wish to attack has had its radar knocked out, has no attached land AA/radar Units, and has no formation air patrols with active radar (as evidenced by the following: - The Report display for the Base says, "Other damage - Sensor" and Land Units: 0 - Friendly air groups having SEAD and AAM loadouts give the "No released weapons ... for Land attack" message when commanded to attack the base (thus implying that there are no active land-based radars and no formation air groups on the base). G'day all, I've decided to dust off my Harpoon Commanders Edition and get back into the fray. Kicking myself for not upgrading to Harpoon Ultimate when it was on sale so patiently waiting for the next one so in the meantime I'm still on HCE. Is the recommended upgrade path for HCE : Go from 2009.50 to the latest beta? Also I'm not sure if this is due to my version but I can't open any of the EC2003 battleset's. I get a variation of "Unable to open resource file E:\HarpoonCE\hdsh.rsr" depending on the battleset (that's the GIUK one). Reinstalled from scratch but no change to the above error. Thanks

Long ago and many laptops past I spent many hours having a ton of fun playing Harpoon. Current laptop did not have it installed so I just purchased the latest HUCE from Matrix games and upgraded it to build 2022.27. From the point-of-view of the game mechanics: There are 4 categories of speed; stop, creep, cruise and full. From a detection perspective; if a vessel is sailing within a category's speed range, does it make any difference if the vessel is at the low end of the speed range or the high end? Example: A Spruance class DD is set to sail in the cruise speed range, ie 6 to 19 kts. If the actual speed is set to 6 kts will an opponent's sonar have more difficulty detecting the Spruance than if the speed is set to 19 kts? Convoy, medium opposed NATO transit. Pretty straight forward scenario. I got two SAGs, one convoy of merchant ships and limited air assets. To win I just need to get the convoy to Narvik alive. I left all the surface ships on their starting courses and launched 3 F-16s to the north to CAP. Then sent one of my two P-3 Orions to the north roughly 151km off the coast to see what's out there. It didn't take long. My CAP detected incoming aircraft and I sent the fighters to intercept and called up some more to reinforce after changing their loadout from guided to air-to-air because I'm not sure how many Soviet aircraft I'm up against. Calling MGellis... I finally snooped into what you were seeing with blank lines for ship entries in the SE with recent versions of the HCDB. The deal is that 16-bit list boxes (the scrolling list of units) can show a maximum of 8192 items (we can only have 2048 items so we don't hit that limit) or 65536 characters of information in the entire list box. It is the 65536 character limit we hit, when the SE gets there, the rest of the lines after 65536 characters are blank. Simple math shows that to fit the max possible number of entries from the game (2048), each entry in the list box for the Platform Display must be limited to 32 characters max. I hav…

I just purchase HUCE from Matrix Games. There are a ton of options and I've seen many different database options out there. What's the most commonly supported and used database? I see that there's a Players Database which is self-branded as the most functional database. Is the self-branding of that database for real or is it just for marketing? I see that the official database on this site has a ton of downloads and was just updated on the 3rd of June 2013. Thoughts?

Specifically in the WestPac "Backyard" scenario, I quite frequently observe a minor oddity (that apparently has no adverse effect on game play) but may be some sort of indication of something getting hosed up. What happens every so often is that after a tanker a/c completes its refuelling and after the Split-off dialog has been approved, it displays the dialog for selecting the base for the tanker to return to - but the mileage to the first base (or bases, in some cases) is grossly incorrect. Hello, Thought I would introduce myself. I am a long time player of Harpoon. I have been lurking here a little over a year. I received Harpoon Ultimate Edition as a Christmas gift and have been amazed at the improvements over my old (1997) version of the game. I also tried to follow a couple of Harpoon websites about a decade ago, but stopped after realizing there was a war in progress, but could not figure out the sides, combatants or issues. Hello, I am new back at Harpoon with Ultimate Edition v.2009.0.5.0 Previously I had enjoyed the sim from DOS all the way up through Harpoon 97. I have enjoyed replaying many of the scenarios. I am looking for some help using the scenario editor. I tried to edit one of the battleset scenarios to add more time to the scenario. But when I try to launch the saved scenario, either I can't locate it, or I get a message that some component is missing. It looks like there are multiple directories for the different build versions of the sim, but it looks like there is only one scenario editor launched from the initial Matrix HUCE menu.
