July 13, 20223 yr G'day all, I've decided to dust off my Harpoon Commanders Edition and get back into the fray. Kicking myself for not upgrading to Harpoon Ultimate when it was on sale so patiently waiting for the next one so in the meantime I'm still on HCE. Is the recommended upgrade path for HCE : Go from 2009.50 to the latest beta? Also I'm not sure if this is due to my version but I can't open any of the EC2003 battleset's. I get a variation of "Unable to open resource file E:\HarpoonCE\hdsh.rsr" depending on the battleset (that's the GIUK one). Reinstalled from scratch but no change to the above error. Thanks
July 13, 20223 yr Welcome back. Officially the latest betas are only for Ultimate but unofficially people have been successful installing them over HCE. Do you by chance have two parts of the game installed to two different locations, i.e. 2009.050 installed to C:\Matrix Games\HCE\ and the betas installed to E:\HarpoonCE\ for instance? That could cause the disconnect. At least the holiday sale at Matrix gets closer every day, only 4ish months left!
July 13, 20223 yr Author Hey Tony, Nice to meet you - appreciate you and the team keeping Harpoon alive and relevant! I've definitely applied the latest updates successfully to the one location. Even straight out of a fresh install using the installer from Matrixgames (and update) I get that battleset error so it's not related to the beta's. Think it was why I put it back on the shelf as I couldn't resolve the error and not much luck trying to find a resolution for it. Cheers
July 14, 20223 yr Can you post the ge.log from the HarpoonCE folder please? It is very strange to me that you can select the BattleSet but can't open it. What I do see happen on occasion is someone with a bad BattleSetPath registry entry but in that case they don't see the affected BattleSets at all. That makes me curious, can you post the date/time modified on hdsh.res?
October 9, 20223 yr I'm having the same problem. I installed Harpoon CE on Windows 10 Pro under c:\matrix games. Here's what got installed: C:\Matrix Games\HCE>dir *.rsr Volume in drive C is OS Volume Serial Number is 96FF-FC6B Directory of C:\Matrix Games\HCE 06/22/2008 07:31 AM 20,257,270 commondb.rsr 05/02/2009 02:49 PM 416,715 HDSD.RSR 05/02/2009 02:52 PM 490,585 HDSE.RSR 05/02/2009 02:52 PM 479,917 HDSF.RSR 05/02/2009 02:52 PM 239,027 HDSG.RSR 04/04/2009 02:18 PM 0 hdsl.rsr 06/13/2008 01:43 PM 0 hdsn.rsr 06/13/2008 01:43 PM 0 hdso.rsr 06/13/2008 01:43 PM 0 hdsp.rsr 06/13/2008 01:43 PM 0 hdsq.rsr 02/13/2008 07:52 PM 0 hdsu.rsr 05/07/2010 09:00 PM 1,032,486 usni.rsr
October 9, 20223 yr Welcome back Randy, what is the name of the installer you ran (and perhaps its size)? From your file listing it looks like you installed a patch but not the full game before a patch. Or you installed the full game and patches into two different directories. I have 33 .rsr files for instance in my HC directory.
