I just purchase HUCE from Matrix Games.

 

There are a ton of options and I've seen many different database options out there. What's the most commonly supported and used database? I see that there's a Players Database which is self-branded as the most functional database.

 

Is the self-branding of that database for real or is it just for marketing?

 

I see that the official database on this site has a ton of downloads and was just updated on the 3rd of June 2013.

 

Thoughts?

That said, it isn't a database for HC (Harpoon Classic, Commander's Edition, Ultimate Commander's Edition) anyway, it is for H3/ANW.

As for HC databases, Brad/CV32's works are the currently updated databases. Unfortunately divefreak has spent his limited gaming time elsewhere so we no longer have two families of databases. That said, Brad's databases are fantastic. Obviously there is HCDB but there are also the HCCW (HC Cold War DB) and HCWW (HC World Wars) databases not to mention HCDA (Americas database).

 

HCDB will work with the scenarios included with the game, it applies to the EC2003 and newer battlesets, the older battlesets have built-in databases that are quite out of date but many people still enjoy the scenarios so we leave it all available.

 

HCCW, HCWW, and HCDA do not offer compatibility with the built-in scenarios. That makes them more flexible in terms of how Brad can structure the databases, and more expansive since the legacy platforms don't need to be maintained. I'm a big fan of the HCCW and it really aims for the heart of HC's capability, the mid-late Cold War world.
