i apologize if this has already been asked, did a google search, nothing came up. why do my tankers refuel my fighters instantly? it is extremely frustrating and defeats the purpose of tankers. I'm guessing i might have accidentally turned on auto refueling? i tried hitting alt-r but problem still occurs. thanks

Hi all, I was reading a post and I got aware there is such an option in the game. Searched in the download area, found the hot keys documents and I see there's a Ctrl+Alt+S key combination. I tried it but nothing happens: what am I supposed to see activating it into the game? Thanks Francesco

I was curious, how realistic is harpoon? I know its probably one of the most realistic war game out there but just how close is it to real life? I'm guessing the ASW techniques and formations are pretty dead on, but what about the actual combat? Like for example; Is it realistic to fire 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles all at the same time at one target because you know some will be shot down? Or in real life do they fire one or two per target then if they are shot down then fire more? (I understand SEAD operations would be carried out prior) Are SAM defenses really so effective? In HCE, they seem to do a pretty good job, but in real life it seems lik…

I saw a series of youtube videos where the uploader was running a simulator on H3 where both sides were computers. He was able to give each side a certain amount of planes and ships and then run the simulation and they would battle it out itself without the player controlling one side. Is there anything similar to this for HCE? I know it kinda defeats the purpose of the game if you don't even play but I think it'd be fun to setup each side and run the simulation and watch the battle unfold. And if there is nothing similar for HCE, does anyone know how he does it on H3? Any help would be great

So recently I bought the Ultimate HCE and I'm replaying my favorite scenarios, and discovering ANW. Hope to see you all around here!

I just want to say hello to all members, from a newly registered but old wargamer, and surprised at the good quality of some posts here. I'm returning to enjoy wargames thanks to HCE, and although I had a hard time, I finally managed to sink two Nanuchkas in exchange of only a merchant (North Countess) and I am really satisfied with my achievement so I want to spread it to the four winds . Here you can see a tense moment of action: I just want to thank TonyE for his help and availability, and say that I hope to participate in the forum as much as possible.

I finally tracked down a copy of Harpoon Classic (DOS) & installed it. However, Scenario Editor won't launch (error message: :Missing HARPOON Resource File(s)" I have uninstalled & re-installed several times now, but get the same error. The game itself runs great. Any thoughts?

While poking around seeking to become more familiar with the platforms I happened to notice something peculiar. The data for sensors of a single ship are different depending on how you view the data. I have HCDB-120621 loaded and I'm looking at the DDG-1000 Zumwalt. If I go (in-game with a one ship self-made scenario or in Scenario Editor): -> Unit Box or Group Box -> Click on the ship -> BLUE Surface Unit AA00 -> Display Button ->Unit Display - Range for the SQS-60 = 3.5 Passive & 7.0 Active or Reports->Platform Display Checking the SQS-60 values in the HCE Platform Editor, the values = 3.5 Passive & 7.0 Active. BUT - >…

Hi. It has been 15 years or so since I played Harpoon Classic. As I have not used a PC since then, I wanted to know what PC hardware/software I would need to run it. I think I remember that it runs in DOS, and I had it running on a Windows 95 machine. Does it run on later versions of Windows (98, ME or even 7?). I basically plan to buy an old, cheap PC so I can run the game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question. At the moment I am quite happy with HCE running on build 2009.67. However, sooner or later I will move to something more modern than my 2004 Pentiun IV with XP. Given that I gather that the Scenario Editor I use does not work under 32 or 64 bit, when will we get a more modern stable version of the whole package? Thanks Emilio

Hello everybody, I'm new to this (just discovered) forum! I have played for long to Harpoon Classic many years ago, I have now found out that an updated version called HCE is sold online and I've just downloaded the demo before buying the game. I have tested the demo this week but I have found a very annoying bug, it seems that many subs are almost impossible to sink: you need to release 15 or more torpedos before even seeing the animation of the torbedo approaching the sub. I've just tested again this issue on the Western Pacific Battleset mission 9# where two Echo II subs spotted many miles away have just managed to hit my carrier group even after something like 10 Vi…

Hello, I am new to harpoon and looking for some kind of beginners guide. I've been playing and figuring most of it out for myself, but wondering if there's some type of beginners guide to understand the basics and fundamental things I may be missing. I've read the tactics 101 and it helped some, but I'm looking for a guide covering all the basics of the game so I can enjoy the game fully. Thank you very much for any help

Hello Harp community! I am a long time user of Harpoon in its various incarnations, currently using the tried and true HCE. I saw that the site got a facelift of sorts and decided to pop my head up. For those who dont know me, I served in the US Navy from 1991-2001 as a ST-S (Sonar Technician, Submarine) in the Atlantic fleet and been to many cold, interesting places. Ill try to keep up in here and lets keep this community alive!

File Name: SELaunch.zip File Submitter: donaldseadog File Submitted: 29 Apr 2012 File Category: Tools/Mods/Docs A basic tool that lets you set a custom database (for post EC2003 battlesets) and launch the scenario editor without having to swap the main folder database file or hand write shortcuts. Other settings such as selecting the battleset and existing scenario are also available. IT should be unzipped into the main HCE/HUCE folder. Edit: version1.2 A minor change so that the scenario editor select window defaults to the folder in which the program exist, so place the program in the same folder as the Scenario editor (default is the main harpoon folder) Also…

I just bought a new computer (AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3.30 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit Win 7 Pro SP1). When I re-installed HUCE, it seemed to install cleanly. However, when I go to play the game, I run into a problem. I can double click the desktop icon, and that gives me the User Account Control warning screen asking if I want to allow the program to make changes to my system. I tell it yes, and get the Play HUCE box. I select '20 Years of Commanders Edition', and that gets me 'choose version' box. At this point, clicking on any of the versions except 'Harpoon CE' brings up that version of the game, no problem. Unfortunately, clicking on 'Harpoon CE' does absolutely nothing. If…

Does anyone have a freeware edition of WINZIP available? I d/l'd the trial of the new one thinking it was freeware and it is NOT (blast it all). I'm currently unemployed and can't afford the expense the new one costs on my family's tight budget at this time. I'd greatly appreciate help, so I can put out the rest of the BRICS campaign and other ideas I have.
