MH-60R and MH-60S seem unable to use the AGM-114 Hellfire. When they are close enough to fire, and I try to use the Hellfires, they say "Cannot illuminate target." This seems to happen no matter what I do, so I don't think it's simply that I'm coming in from the wrong direction or anything like that (I'm not sure that would matter with a helicopter anyway). The MH-60R does not seem to have trouble firing the AGM-119 Penguin and the MQ-8 Fire Scout IS able to fire its Hellfires at exactly the same target. I figured I better report this so Gunny can figure it out. I'd recommend checking other platforms that use the Hellfire, too, as some of them may have the sa…

Greetings from the mines... Many of you will be wondering, "what ever happened to the HUD3?" I'm happy to report that I've managed to put together a group of people from across the Harpoon "World" that are now furiously testing the updated database and rebuilt Global Conflicts 1 Battleset. Don Gilman/AGSI has been kind enough to grant me permission to rebuild and modify the stock scenarios and that's well underway. The project aims to rebuild and or modify all of the original stock scenarios for full compatibility with the HUD3 and improved game play. I'm also working on a modified set of Tutorial scenarios that function with the DB. Don has also in an effort …

hello everyone, vids showing military aircraft training at Vlow altitude and stories where drop tank have hit the sea waves or the sand dunes are both common. it's also well know that in wartime, at least over the sea, pilots had to fly very low to not be spotted by the opposition's radar too early. a famous operational exemple is the argentinian Super Etendard wich were approaching their targets at between 10 and 15m above the water. off course, it deosn't mean that they would fly so low over land or even that they would do it by night or adverse weather. thow could we simulate it correctly? as far as i know, the lowest alt at wich teh planes can fly …

From Naval Open-Source Intelligence This add to the HUCE DB should make IOPG scenarios a little more interesting! BrahMos has a range of up to 290nm, a mach 2.8 cruising speed that carries a 660lb warhead into its target. That will definitely leave a mark on whatever it hits!

Guys, from reading several threads over at Matrix foras one can get the impression that there exists only one working db and that this one is even a "patch" for ANW. Just to make it clear: There are two well-working official databases around - HUD 3 (Darren Buckley) and ANW DB (Dale Hillier). While Darren is out for the time being, Dale is working on the ANW DB and will release an updated version with ANW 3.10. Regards, Ralf

Version 2006.01 of the Database Comparison Utility (dbComp) has been released. Get it at http://www.harpgamer.com under the Tools section. This utility creates a listing of changes between two versions of a database. Please submit your suggestions to this thread. dbComp is a very old tool that can't fully compare the current databases, help in getting it up to current is appreciated.

UnRep times: To calculate a [rough] unrep you need to know factors: With UnRep operations at sea you got 2 possible transporting options: 1: by cables between the ships 2: helicopter shuttles What I know about transportation by cable is that the sea must be relative calm; the ships rolling during this operation due to the displacement and speed of the ships so close to each other [about 10-20 meters]. Photo: US Navy The transport between the ships by cable line is relative slow. Electro engines or people running the cables. So it takes at least minutes to bridge the distance between the ships, but you must also calculate time to click o…

I am pleased to report that the new version of the HUD-4, v. 1.2, with its updated data annexes, seems to have squashed at least one bug that has taken quite a while to track down and bring to justice. The AIM-7E-2/3 missile carried by many of the early Phantoms now fires and kills targets. (Some of the other AIM-7s always worked fine, but for the longest time the E-series just would not lock on and fire.) The missile is still a bit persnickety! As far as I can tell, you have to have a clear fix on the target's altitude or it will not lock on. But it is now possible to get it to fire and it will kill the aircraft at which one is shooting. I have not yet tested…

hello pooners, yesterday, in a chat about AI (un)management of iin flight refueling operations with Tony on IRC, the idea of using a special underwing tank to be inserted in the plane's loadouts to simulate that the planes refueled during the missions came on the table. the beauty of that workaround (if one can see any beauty in a workaround), is to allow the scen designer to manage the usage of that workaround by simply including, or not, the needed underwing tank. on the other side, any scen that would have used tankers would require his specific tank because the distance to cover would also be specific. another con is that it doesn't physically simul…

Digging through manuals for H3, H3ANW, and H3UE... lots of mentions of the H3 Platform Assistant spreadsheets that were hosted on AGSI's website (now gown AFAICT). Anyone have these old spreadsheet(s) and can share? Please and thank you.

When using the DB Editor that uses the H3 screen (not the MS Acces one, the other one) how do you create a new platform? In MS Access, I go to the last platform and click next, which gives me a blank record to work with. Doing this in the other one just closes the screen. I think I have a pretty fair handle on editing existing entries, just not how to create new ones. I don't find it mentioned in the manual anywhere either. Thanx, Buddha

hello Pooners, i was wondering since some times what was the exact effects of the armor ratings that one can assign to the ships and facilities in DB editors and Dale Hillier (aka VCDH) kindly answered to that question. now in the H4 rules, there's a table titled "Armor effects" (page 7-5, section 7.3.3) where it's shown for example that a GP, an AP shell of 76 to 120mm caliber, an HE shell if 76 to 130 or fragments from an exploding missile can penetrate a light armor. if you know more facts about the Armor Ratings, please share them cheers, Jan

I sometimes try to explain Harpoon to people, in the hopes of getting them to try it out. Is it correct to refer to the HUD-4 as "the official database" or "an official database, one of three included with the game" or is it something else? Just curious. Thanks.

I understand the various versions of the RIM-162 ESSM are primarily differentiated for the types of launchers with which they are associated, i.e. RIM-162A - Aegis/Mk 41 VLS RIM-162B - non-Aegis/Mk 41 VLS (no S band uplink) RIM-162C - Mk 48 VLS RIM-162D - Mk 29 box launcher but are there any differences in performance or capability between these versions ?

Gunny, Would it be possible to provide more information updates about progress on the HUD-4? Specifically, would it be possible to start going through the various platforms posted in the request forum and... * If the platform has been added to the database, move the request (or have one of the moderators move it) to the archive so it is no longer cluttering up the request forum--although as the person who did most of the cluttering, I really should not be complaining about this. * If the platform has been accepted, but not added yet, could you let us know what the status is? Is it likely to be added in the next month? Next year? How high is it on the "to…

I was taking a look at ODB (old database) and I get some errors in Access when importing the database. Reading Database.xml Annex...FAILED. Reading Change Log Annex...FAILED. Reading Platform Extras Annex...FAILED What is going wrong? Because I cannot export it completely. Writing Platform Extras Annex... And the game pauses for a long time and it doesn't export. Is there any database that goes right with H3RE_3_10?

Been through the Reimer Editor (including the tooltips in the bottom message bar and the VBA code behind) and the in-game editor and the paper rules, and for the life of me I can't seem to confirm what (or whether) there are specific units of measure for various sensor parameters (like SearchOutput, SearchInput, PassiveInput, FCOutput, FCInput, etc.). Can anyone help with this? Same goes for platform signatures. TIA
