    I am pleased to report that the new version of the HUD-4, v. 1.2, with its updated data annexes, seems to have squashed at least one bug that has taken quite a while to track down and bring to justice. The AIM-7E-2/3 missile carried by many of the early Phantoms now fires and kills targets. (Some of the other AIM-7s always worked fine, but for the longest time the E-series just would not lock on and fire.) The missile is still a bit persnickety! As far as I can tell, you have to have a clear fix on the target's altitude or it will not lock on. But it is now possible to get it to fire and it will kill the aircraft at which one is shooting. I have not yet tested…

    I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but I cannot get the ASROC on my Knox frigates to fire. I tried changing the loadouts, etc. The game sometimes selects the ASROC as the default weapon of choice for an attack, but then never launches the weapon itself...and I know because when I check the magazine later on, it shows the weapons as still being there, even though (if I selected other weapons, too) other weapons have fired without any problem. Any ideas? Mark

    Hello, when editing an airbase all the facilities connect directly with the headquarters? How can I edit them to communicate with the C3I bunker? I have read about this at the manual but I don't understand this point.

    I just downloaded HUD4 today and was playing around with it. I tried to create a scenario circa 1986/87 time frame and found that most of the units for the US are post Cold War outfittings. Is there any way we could get some of the units built into the HUD to represent the high time of the cold war the late 70's and 80's?

    hello Pooners, i was wondering since some times what was the exact effects of the armor ratings that one can assign to the ships and facilities in DB editors and Dale Hillier (aka VCDH) kindly answered to that question. now in the H4 rules, there's a table titled "Armor effects" (page 7-5, section 7.3.3) where it's shown for example that a GP, an AP shell of 76 to 120mm caliber, an HE shell if 76 to 130 or fragments from an exploding missile can penetrate a light armor. if you know more facts about the Armor Ratings, please share them cheers, Jan

    Gunny had mentioned the possibility of putting out an update to the HUD-4 every month or so. Would it make sense to simply use a regular schedule? Maybe every other month? Basically, whatever gets done during that period, whether it is a lot or a little, major fixes or just a couple of new platforms, is what goes into the update. So we might see releases in, say, February, April, June, August, October, and December of each year. Some would be big ones and some would be not so big, but they would come on a regular basis, and everyone would know when the next one was coming.     Hello people. Being a Harpoon classic/gold player, and usually updating myself the database via the platform editor coming with the game, I was rather annoyed when I found out that there were no platform editor within my H3 disk. I was even more annoyed when i could not find any web pages having a working H3 database editor download..... How could I get one? Hoping of earring of you soon, regards. Mor Breizh.

    Version 2006.01 of the Database Comparison Utility (dbComp) has been released. Get it at http://www.harpgamer.com under the Tools section. This utility creates a listing of changes between two versions of a database. Please submit your suggestions to this thread. dbComp is a very old tool that can't fully compare the current databases, help in getting it up to current is appreciated.

  9. When I launch AH-64s (and Longbows) in a test scenario, the game treats them as...well, I don't know what, but it is not treating them as my aircraft. It detects them, as if they were a bogie, and then I cannot navigate them, even though they are my aircraft and launched from my base. This does not happen with other helicopters that I have tested, so I wonder if there is a database flag somewhere that is telling the game to treat them as...missiles rather than aircraft? I'm not sure if this is a problem with the database or something I am doing wrong, but I've been testing the AIM-7 missiles (as carried by various versions of the F-4) and I am having a lot of trouble. I cannot get either the AIM-7C or the AIM-7E to fire at ANYTHING. I've tried them against T-34 Mentors AND against 737s, so it's not the type of aircraft that's creating the problem. I recommend a complete review of the AIM-7 variants for the HUD-4 database as soon as it is practical to do so, all of them, in case I've missed something, although I think the AIM-7M is okay.     Not sure if this is a database error or something else... MK112 ASROC will "fire"--it notes a decrease in weapons in the MK112, but no torpedo appears on the screen to indicate that a weapon has actually fired. "Fired" all 8 from one ship at a nearby submarine and they never a) appeared or appeared to do anything. Tested with a DD 151 Asigiri Mark
