2009.034 Release Notes
Nice work again! Most of the log options are at least minimally explained at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3574 Performance logging was properly ignored, in release builds it is ignored, when I put up the next beta build that one will work since it will be a debug build.

Harpoons 20th Anniversary needs your help!
A few more were submitted, thanks Buddha and Wombat! Granted they were Windows versions and not DOS but it won't hurt to have a more complete collection http://www.harpgamer.com/HC20/upload.php

Harpoons 20th Anniversary needs your help!
The first user submission has come in, yay, Harpoon 1.51 GE & SE as well as all battlesets thru HDS III. I'll also take this opportunity to mention that patches are good too if say you have the 1.2 to 1.32 patch I'm happy to see those uploaded as well. Nor have I dug too deeply into my own files yet (I know a few patches live at Harpoonpages.com. If people are really nuts about this I do have both 3.5 and 5.25" drives and would be happy to copy data from disks sent to me and return the disks. PM me if you are that devoted . UncleHarpoon did that and provided some real history!

Harpoons 20th Anniversary needs your help!
We're trying to gather as many of the DOS Harpoon 1/Classic versions as possible for inclusion in the 20th Anniversary of the game. If you have old disks, an old install, etc. please consider uploading it for posterity and those lucky people who get to buy a copy of the 20th Anniversary edition. Time is tight, grab your files and head to http://www.harpgamer.com/HC20/upload.php ASAP! Thank you on behalf of HC3, AGSI, and Matrix Games

2009.034 Release Notes
Get the updated launcher at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...ost&p=15003 I tried older versions of the GE and couldn't find one that worked properly with a single -l followed by multiple arguments so I changed the launcher to use one -l per log argument and that seems to work just fine. Oh, also note that you can copy the command lines shown by the launcher in this new version (and ostensibly paste them into your report)

2009.034 Release Notes
It was wrong of me to show a battleset by filename option in the launcher, I just re-read the release notes and they don't list a battleset by filename option. I had wanted to make it possible but it was requiring too many changes for too little gain. It is disabled in the next version of the launcher.

2009.034 Release Notes
Thank you Don! I have just about lost all hope, you've restored some. I'm reading in your post two issues with the command line options of the GE: 1. The GE isn't recognizing the use of multiple log specifiers (ex. both radar and sonar on the same command line). I can also confirm this incorrect behavior. 2. Battleset by filename isn't working (at least in the hdsu.res case though I wonder if that is the only case that doesn't work) It would be a great help if you would list the options that you have proven do work (I'm guessing that includes the -g switch), bonus points if you include the ge.log fragment showing the options you chose (see http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...st&p=14844) I'll see about improving the launcher a bit this evening since you put in some effort. You may well like some of the gun changes in 2009.037... - Chg:0000 GE Added code for intercepts based on air to air guns, both player and AI. Disabled the internal 3nm guns in commondb battlesets. in short that means if you give a loadout an air to air gun it will work in terms of honoring intercept requests rather than depending upon the 3nm built-in guns that don't adhere to intercept logic. So keep at the command line options testing so that we can release another build.

2009.034 Release Notes
I can always keep helping... Don't forget the launcher in earlier post of this thread, unzip to your HCE directory and run it. It'll build a command line based on your chosen options then click "Launch GE". Make sure you actually get the options you chose, grab the first lines of the log file, rinse and repeat.

UAVs as cruel as land mines?
imho there is no comparison between UAVs and land mines with the restriction that the UAVs have some form of positive human control, target approval, etc. My beef with landmines isn't that they kill, it is that they don't give up at the end of the conflict and aren't easily swept. If 95% of the mines would self destruct when given the end of war signal or effectively turn dead after a set number of days I wouldn't have a problem with them. War is war and people are going to die, it is the post-war continuance of death that bothers me with mines and cluster bombs. I'm also not expecting perfection (see 95% above, not 100%) even though I would strive for perfection. Anyway, within my set of criteria there, current UAVs don't fit the category of "cruel as landmines."

refueling problem (once more)
One could report it as a game defect but it would probably never get fixed since it is intentional and getting rid of it would mean planes falling from the sky. You are seeing some 'spare' range added for takeoff and landing operations that the rest of the code otherwise wouldn't be able to handle.

2009.034 Release Notes
Yet another attempt to spur you guys on and it only works for the GE. It will error out on occasion, I don't care about that at this point, I only care if it blue screens your computer (it has only done that to me when I run it in the debugger). It should help you form command lines. Post your log fragments and results as indicated in earlier posts. 2009/07/25 uploaded version 2009.037 Maximum length of command line options increased from 80 characters to 2048 to coincide with Windows 2000+ Idiot prompt added to make sure the listed GE file actually exists. 2009/07/14 uploaded version 0.1.0.1 ComboBoxes are a little more responsive (still easy to fool them) BattleSet by filename option greyed out since the GE doesn't support it Log options now each get their own -l Launcher_v2009.037.zip

What screen resolution do you run?
Hehe, how can you see anything? Or do you use large fonts (aka 120dpi or so)?

EC2000 vs EC2003 battlesets
You can read the Release Notes going back to 2003.16b4 at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2395 The difference between EC2000 and EC2003 is mainly that EC2003 uses the commondb database which really means it uses the editable database that in the stock case is HCDB, maintained by CV32 here so it has much more and much more pertinent data than the platforms in EC2000. A player has just started going thru the Victory Conditions for EC2003 and helping us bring them up to date since many of the Victory Conditions cannot be met. We pretty much consider everything before EC2003 as legacy, we want it to work but we aren't putting a ton of effort into making sure it plays the same as it always did (as you've found). The AI is still dumb as a post, yes but the turning on of sensors recently had a major overhaul in 2007.027 thru 2009.034 (in other words 2009.036 has it) that makes the AI and Staff Assistant a little smarter about when to turn on sensors.

What screen resolution do you run?
1400 x 1050 with 96dpi is what I run on a daily basis

What screen resolution do you run?
Wondering what screen resolution people are running on the machines where you run Harpoon Classic/HCE. Thanks

To help you provide more detail on what you tested, copy the first few lines of your GE.log files (or whatever you had them renamed to), they will list the command line option attempted. example: (hint, I specified a database .res file on the command line) Logging begins. HCWW blue pilots cowards?
Thanks to your post the reason for the too much ammo being used finally clicked. The code I wrote was fine but I had neglected to turn off air to air guns in the area defense code so it was firing in addition to the ordered intercept firing. A taste of the air to air guns from the MessageLog.txt Logging begins. Build Date = Jun 27 2009, Build Time=14:54:20 To Go 1:23:45:45 Friendly Unit AB00(F-14T Tomcat) fired 3 x 20" ATA Gun bursts at ZY00(E-2C Hawkeye Group 0), Firing=0, LeftToFire=0. To Go 1:23:45:34 1 enemy E-2C Hawkeye Group 0 of group (ZYA), has been shot down. To Go 1:23:45:34 Friendly Unit AB00(F-14T Tomcat) fired 2 x 20" ATA Gun bursts at ZY00(E-2C Hawkeye Group 0), Firing=0, LeftToFire=0. Yes, I modded a F-14 to carry a 24nm range 20" air to air gun to make the testing easier. Many hurdles yet to overcome (like what will happen when a plane has both missiles and guns...) but perhaps the biggest hurdles are overcome (~10 hours of coding so far on this).
