2009.008 Release Notes
HCE 2009-008 ============== - Chg:2429 GE Fixed the 10x too large BOL range ring. (thanks Herman) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2471 Confirmed as fixed. - Chg:0000 GE Only show BOL range ring as large as BOL capable weapons instead of as large as the longest range ASM/SSM. Confirmed as fixed. - Chg:0000 GE Made the BOL range ring yellow like it was meant to be. Confirmed as fixed. - Chg:0000 GE Added a Staff Assistant information message when the group has no BOL capable weapons and a BOL attack is attempted. Confirmed as fixed. - Chg:0000 GE Don't let weapons launch their own BOL attacks. (thanks Herman) Strongly believe that it's fixed based on tests I've run. - Chg:0000 GE Fixed inability to retarget air groups already on a mission. Confirmed as fixed. Even the ASA is back in business. However, Hotkeying a BOL brings up some gibberish on the WAD for Enemy Units Target. See screenshot attachment. There are two small test scenarios to play with: BOLTEST for WestPac and REAC for EC2003. BOLTEST.zip REAC.zip

Defect: ASW Torpedo vs. Land target
Fix confirmed in .007. Helo will get the usual "no weapons for land attacks" message.
-
Defect: Double Dip
This would mean that Herman's Issue 41 in the issue (bug) tracker is a non-issue.

Here's an easy one
Is this a test for the Open-Beta-Potential-Recruits or can the Old China Hands jump in too?

Open beta
Now that there is an open beta, what happens to this area?
-
Defect: Double Dip
The double prompting is indeed gone with .007. However, so is the Staff Assistant. The Attack order just results in a message "Closing to next AAM range" without the SA asking for confirmation.

Defect: Double Dip
Are you confirming that it's broke or that it ain't broke?
-
Base Acronyms
Thanks. I guess TC must be "Terrorist Camp".
-
Base Acronyms
The Databases for EC2000 and EC2003 make reference to, for example, Mawsil AD and Kifh TC. What do the AD and TC signify?

Defect: Double Dip
Defect Name: Double Dip Build: HCE 2009.004 Repeatable: Yes Operating System: Vista SP1 DB used: HCDB_080712 Scenario used: Saved game "Double Dip" for EC2003 GIUK Long Description: ASA and WAD show up twice during the same attack. Steps to reproduce: 1) Load and run saved game "Double Dip" in EC2003 GIUK. 2) Order Blue AEA to Attack Red ZXH. ASA asks if you want to attack. Answer Yes. (Screenshot: 01) In range) 3) The WAD allocates 2 AMRAAMs to target, leaving 2 on the racks. (Screenshot: 02) First WAD) 4) ASA says "The effective attack range fo these aircratf is 40NM. Target range is 38NM. Should we close and attack?". Answer Yes. (Screenshot: 03) SA again) 5) The WAD allocates 2 AMRAAMs to target, still leaving 2 on the racks. (Screenshot: 04) Second WAD) 6) AUD shows that Blue has no LR missiles left. (Screenshot: 05) Blue Atmament) Expected Behavior: ASA and WAD should only appear for the original attack. Observed behavior: ASA and WAD appear a second time, before original attack is completed; WAD miscounts the missiles available. Additional information: This seems to have appeared with 2009.001. Defect: ASW Torpedo vs. Land target
OK. Just this very second finished testing LZTorp again. This time I ran the helo into the AA zone around LZ and got a definite fix and ID of the Surface contace as a 122mm artillery piece. The attack WAD targeted the base, but I was definitely able to reallocate it to the gun. See the screensaves in the attachment. I find that it is still broken as originally stated. Screensaves.zip

Defect: ASW Torpedo vs. Land target
This is nuts. I just tried the save in .005 and I can still drop torpedoes on the base.

2009.005 Release Notes
Sorry. It doesn't work. Load the saved game Sibmis2009-005 in EC2003 GIUK. The Red bombers have detected the surfaced sub and the minesweeper, but trying to attack the sub brings up a blank WAD. I'm thinking you should revert to .004 for the release and leave it be for now. Submis2009_005.zip

Defect: Attacking ships head the wrong way
Defect Name: Attacking ships head the wrong way Build: HCE 2009.004 Repeatable: Yes Operating System: Vista SP1 DB used: HCDB_080712 Scenario used: Saved game "WrongWay" for EC2003 GIUK Long Description: Ships ordered to attack initially head the wrong direction. Steps to reproduce: 1) Load and run saved game "WrongWay" in EC2003 GIUK. 2) Order Group ACS to Attack Base ZZb. 3) The ASA announces "Sir, we are out of range. Group ACS must close 13 NM before we are in range. Should we close and attack?". Answer Yes. The ASA reappears with "Sir, request permission to increase speed of Group ACS to 5 kts, to intercept enemy Group ZZb." Answer Yes. 4) Increase to Full Speed of 50kts. ACS heads north, away from the target for quite a distance before turning and attacking. 5) The same thing happens at lower speeds but for not so far a distance. Expected Behavior: Groups should turn to attack without first heading in the wrong direction. Child of: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3512 WrongWay.zip

Defect: ASW Torpedo vs. Land target
Defect Name: ASW Torpedo vs. Land target Build: HCE 2009.004 Repeatable: Yes Operating System: Vista SP1 DB used: HCDB_080712 Scenario used: Saved game "TorpLZ" for EC2003 GIUK Long Description: Blue helo is able to launch ASW torpedo against a Land base or unit. Steps to reproduce: 1) Load and run saved game "TorpLZ" in EC2003 GIUK. 2) Order Helo ADH to Attack Base ZZb. 3) The WAD shows a Mk46 Mod5 NEARTIP can be allocated to either LZ Zulu or Surface contact @123- (which I know to be an artillery piece). It cannot be allocated to any of the Surface units. 4) Execute the order and the ASA announces "Sir, the effective attack range for these aircraft is 7 NM. Target range is 8 NM. Should we close and attack?" 5) Answer "Yes". The WAD reappears. Execute will release the torpedo on the selected target. Expected Behavior: ASW torpedoes should be allocatable only on submarines. The ASA should have announced the inappropriateness of these weapons for a non-ASW attack. Child of: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3512 TorpLZ.zip

2009.004 Release Notes
I wrote up a test scenario and ran a couple of tests. "Multitest" is the test scenario written for EC2003 GIUK. Red LZ Zulu (ZZb) is on Iceland. Within the base (ZZ00) for targeting variety are a minesweeper (ZZ01), an artillery piece (ZZ02), a tug (ZZ03), a Rapier barge (ZZ04), and a sub (ZZ05). Blue has an LA sub (ABU), a mixed CG/CCG TF (AAS), and a PT TF (ACS). "Multitest01", a saved game, shows that Blue has detected everything at ZZB except for the sub. All detected units have been targeted with TLAM-D, TLAM-C, TASM Blk 1, RGM-84D and UGM-84A from ABU and AAS and all, including the base itself, will shortly be blown to bits. "Multitest02", another save, has ACS closing on ZZb and launching torpedoes at the surface targets. Again, the sub was not detected. If you let the scenario run, Blue will be asked to fire torpedoes along a counter bearing, though none of them ever seem to hit. "Multitest03" has ABU in position off ZZb. Every Red unit has been detected including the sub by passive sonar. Use the Attack button and you will be allowed to attack the sub with torpedoes, and the three surface units with Harpoons or torpedoes. The base and artillery are inside the minimum range of the Tomahawks, but Multitest01 shows they would work. So, 1) Bases and units within a base, either land or sea, can be destroyed by surface- or sub-launched missiles when detected individually. 2) Ships and subs within bases can be torpedoed by surface ships or subs when detected individually. 3) Subs within bases do not ever seem to be detected by radar and so cannot be targets for a missile strike. Are "Docked Subs" surfaced or submerged at bases? Naturally, exploring this caused other bugs to surface. They will be addressed individually. Multitests.zip
