When is the next HUD-4 update?
Sounds good. I agree the conversions have to come first (it probably makes more sense to get those done before adding any new platforms anyway). I'll keep looking for things that can be added someday, but I understand it might be a while. Looking forward to the new release. Mark

Blackfive - Distinguished Warfare Medal Rejected! Device recommended instead
I think the crux of this issue is that we need to do two things... 1. We need to distinguish between those who have contributed to protecting our country in a significant way and those who not only done so but who have done so even though it meant putting themselves in harm's way. 2. We need to find an appropriate way to honor those who have contributed to protecting our country in a significant way, even if it did not involve putting themselves personally at risk. The guy who takes out a terrorist with a drone may not have been on the battlefield himself, but he has still done something pretty important. It does seem odd to give someone a medal when they have not taken any actual risk to life and limb, but we should find an appropriate way to honor such people for their service.

SELEX Galileo Falco
SELEX Galileo Falco http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falco_reconnaissance_drone "The Falco (English: hawk) is a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed and produced by SELEX Galileo (originally by Galileo Avionica) of Italy. The UAV is designed to be a medium-altitude, medium-endurance surveillance platform [1] capable of carrying a range of payloads, including several types of high resolution sensors. Its payload does not include weapons, however. The launch customer, Pakistan, reportedly wanted the Falco armed, a request that Italy rejected.[4] A larger variant, capable of carrying larger payloads and designated Falco Evo, is in development. The Falco UAV is not capable of deploying weapons such as guided missiles and bombs, but the Falco Evo is expected to do so." --Wikipedia Used by Pakistan and under consideration by other countries, mostly in the Middle East. When is the next HUD-4 update?
I'll be looking forward to it! Hopefully, some more new platforms can be added, too, although the conversion of existing platforms to the new data obviously comes first.

An actual generic barge
I have noticed that the CIV Generic Barge is rather heavily armed. (Lots of interesting things you could do with this...this is good platform, actually, for a "post-collapse" scenario with local militias handling their own defense against raiders, etc.) Could an unarmed version (an actual barge, with just the crane) be added, though? Also, a minor point, but most of the weapons on the barge appear to be Russian except for the Stinger post...maybe that should be dropped and a second SA-14 added, simply for consistency? Landsort class mine countermeasures vessel
Information for the Bedok can be found here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok-class_mine_countermeasures_vessel "The Bedok class are mine-countermeasure vessels (MCMVs) of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). They play an important role in the maritime security of Singapore, ensuring that the Singapore Strait and the sea lanes surrounding Singapore remain mine-free and open to international shipping. It is estimated that closure of Singapore’s ports would result in direct trade losses amounting to more than US$1.2 billion daily, posing a serious threat to Singapore's economy.[1][2] The four ships form the 194 Squadron of the RSN." --Wikipedia I think that even though mines are not modeled in HUD3/ANW, there a good case for including more minehunter classes. "Minehunting" missions can always be simulated with a Station victory condition; the real mission would probably be something protecting the minehunters from hostile forces, which is exactly the kind of low intensity conflict that might happen anywhere around the world and which ANW can model quite well. Replenishment At Sea
Welcome SaSi and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Myself and a few others (as you may gather from the early posts in the topic) have an aversion to direct stocking of individual weapons per base, per supply ship, etc. That is mainly due to experience editing databases and scenarios in Harpoon 2/3 where ensuring proper weapons is a major undertaking that scares away many people. There is also the player-side effect of the game growing complex tracking which bases have the right weapons and the concern that such an approach will take too much enjoyment out of the game. Those thoughts lead to my preference for a more abstract points based system like Akula laid out in the first post. All that said I don't want to restrict the conversation, hopefully my comments here help you all refine your ideas rather than abandon them. I agree to an extent...while I like the logistics aspects of H3/ANW, because it really lets you tweak some details, I can definitely see it being a headache for people. Some advantages, if it could be added to HC... * Lets you tweak individual ships for the kind of loadouts they might have had in a certain year, if a year-specific platform is not already in the database * Lets you limit munitions for aircraft on ships and at air bases, which can affect tactical choices. If you know you only have 20 Harpoons...well, that's different than knowing you have as many as you need. * If a particular weapon is buggy (Gunny has squashed most of these, but there are still four or five weapons--not too shabby, considering there are hundreds in the HUD4--still giving him grief), you can remove it as an option and only leave munitions that work so people don't select the buggy weapon and botch a scenario because of it. There are some shortcuts one can use while editing scenarios that make most of it pretty simple but there is definitely a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using the logistics function.

Uncle Mark's Amazing Scenario Design System
Another option for random number generation is to download one of the freeware dice rollers people have written. There are a bunch of them. I use Smallroller. Using tables with 20 items doesn't mean anything special; I set things up that way simply because I have a bunch of d20s in my house and it was an easy way to do it. In any event, the tables are really set up more as a brainstorming tool than anything else; you can roll on one table or all of them or anything in between and just use the results to inspire ideas and re-roll anything that does not make sense. As for neutrals, yes, absolutely. You can set up a "protection" mission by making another side (in H3) an ally (friendly posture on both sides). You can't control their units, but any losses against their forces will still count against you if you have a "Protect" victory condition where you have to protect a certain number of units. For example, you could set up "United Nations Peacekeepers" as one side (the side you are playing) and "Doctors Without Borders" as another Blue side. Your task force will follow your orders, but the DWB side (maybe a merchant being used as a floating hospital) will simply follow a pre-programmed mission...you still have to protect it if you have set up a Victory Condition like Protect/1 Unit/100%/Sub-Class: Merchant.

They also have to board and take control of a merchant where high value hostages are being held... (This one is not too hard to win, but you have to think about your tactics and use caution when approaching the insurgent positions. There are a few surprises waiting...)
