I sometimes try to explain Harpoon to people, in the hopes of getting them to try it out. Is it correct to refer to the HUD-4 as "the official database" or "an official database, one of three included with the game" or is it something else? Just curious. Thanks.

I was playing around with some ideas and I was hoping for some feedback. First, am I correct that ANW allows multi-player scenarios? Are there any servers up right now? Second, it occurs to me that multi-player scenarios will often be different than regular scenarios (or, at least, there are some things that have to be taken into consideration for a scenario to really work as a multi-player scenario)... * Balance is essential...either the sides have to be pretty equal in firepower OR one side has to have some kind of handicap to balance things out (i.e., the stronger side can only lose a certain number of planes or it will fail to meet its victory conditions). * Each side needs victory conditions * Each side will need missions assigned, but as I understand it those missions get "erased" if a human player takes that side...they get to choose their own missions Anything else? Am I missing anything? Thoughts? Observations? Recommendations? Requests? Thanks in advance. Mark

I have noticed something rather odd. When you rebuild a scenario, ship names will not change, and group names will not change, but with facilities, if you changed the name (e.g., Beirut Airport), it will revert back to the original name (e.g., AFAC Airfield VL) Just curious...does anyone know why this happens? Because there are some kinds of buildings that might be used with victory condition targets, etc., and the name change might mess this up if the scenario is rebuilt when a new version of the database comes out, I recommend adding the following "platforms." As most of these are simply potential targets, rendezvous points, etc., I don't think they need to be planned out very elaborately. I would recommend simply copying the data for existing buildings (suggestions included) but adding a new entry with a changed name. Several other countries have copied it or developed similar systems." --Wikipedia I think this would be worth adding to the database because it is enormously widespread and capable of creating some real havoc, at least against lightly armored targets. Certainly, one would want to eliminate these things if a battery of them was anywhere near something you wanted to protect. They also have the advantages (for the bad guys) of being very portable (so they can be moved quickly to new locations as necessary), having fairly impressive ranges (20 km. for the first generation rockets and 30-40 km. for the newest rockets (!)), with each rocket having about the bang of a 155-mm. round (i.e., maybe a 36-DP warhead). A battery of 6 of them would, I guess, have a Rate of Fire of 12 and a Capacity of 240. I'm not sure how many reloads these things can carry, but they can be reloaded quite quickly, too. I can see a volley of these things really ruining someone's day. I'm not sure if they would work well as coastal defense system (they may not be accurate enough) but I imagine getting hit by one of these things would not be good for the typical trawler or patrol boat...

Just curious...what exactly do the new standards do? Are they simply providing greater realism, improved playability, closer correlation between ANW and the printed Harpoon rules, a combination of these things, or what? What made you decide to do the conversion?

Just downloaded the newest version of the HUD-4... AIM-7E missiles are still not working AGM-65 Maverick D and G are still not working...AGM-65B Mavericks DO work, but it looks like this is only true if one can turn on radar (so they aren't working for A-10s...and the reason seems to be that the target is not "illuminated"). More later...the issue may at least partly be connected to how IR/laser sensors work (on the D and G Mavericks--as I recall, these created some problems with the Hellfire) and the way EO (TV) sensors work. Glad I could help. As for the tankers, I don't really know...it will tell you how much fuel a tanker has left overall, and I think you get a message if it cannot refuel a particular aircraft, but I think that's about it.

Would it make sense to create a platform anyway, making a "best guess" for the details that are not known for certain, so it can at least be used in scenarios, but mention in the database description that "Some elements of this platform have been estimated and will be updated as more detailed information becomes available." Then, as more information becomes available, simply "correct" the database entry as necessary.

Some variants of the Mirage F1 are missing from the database.
