My sixth HUD-4 scenario of 2013…

This scenario assumes that hostilities erupted between NATO and the Warsaw Pact in 1982. It falls to the Eisenhower, her battle group, and several squadrons of Greek and U.S. Air Force aircraft to solidify control of the Eastern Mediterranean in the early hours of the war.

Just playing it. was curious how Mark, a master of small scenarios, handles the large ones.

This one is a very interesting Cold War scenario playing in the Med.

You have a CVBG and several Nato air bases. The bad guys have a lots of assets, too.

So far the result is rather even. I lost a Tomcat and an invaluable Hawkeye and killed around a dozen Soviet and Libyan air craft.

It is interesting to watch how the Soviets and Libyans destroy one neutral vessel after the other. This gives me time to organize my forces.

Currently I have rearmed my Tomcats with Phoenix missiles which will make life much easier.

I´m a little worried about my small carrier group: only three ships - the carrier guided by two cruisers. This means no ASW vessel. Not good. IMO not realistic, either.

Curious how this works out if there are hostile diesel subs around which is rather certain I guess.

A few hours playing time later...the Phoenixes take their toll. Sanitized the area South of my CVBG from Libyan Floggers, and missile boats as well with Harpoons. Soon I´ll able to switch some F-14s with tanker support East in order to defend the Greek bases.

Really nice scenario so far.

After a longer break I have resumed playing it. My forces continue to destroy Libyan facilities but I still have major Problems defending the Greek airfields. Have to divert my forces and stretch my lines of defense to the utmost. Could not prevent several facilities from destruction but bagged some Backfires and recon birds. Very tense game - well crafted, Mark!

My first Tomcat sweep to the East and Close to the Black Sea works. Three pairs of F-14s down six more Backfires approaching and a few more Foxbats. That´s the only way to win this one: kill the Archers, not the Arrows. The CVBGs Vikings sunk a hostile Sub and now Harpoon armed Vikings are underway in S&D missions, sinking hostile ships. A lot of work for one carrier Group, though.

Failed to meet the VC "preserve 24 facilities from being destroyed". Just was not able to stop all those continuous bomber attacks spitting their Kingfish and Kitchen killer Missiles. Can make it a draw, though and will go on fighting.

Mark, this one is a marvel!
