Basic Map Making Tutorial for SimPlot
- Loading Hud4 into MS
Using (Reimer Editor)RE 3.10 and I believe 2010 on the version of Access though I could be wrong on that one. I can get the hud3 to load into it. I point it to the right database but it refuses. Don't stress on it. I will make do with the hud3 for now. Thanks for the help. Kelly- Loading Hud4 into MS
Okay I've found myself with some more time these days so I wanted to mess around with the hud4 database in Ms, problem is I can only load up the hud3 database. I point it to the hud4 database in the directory but it fails to load each file. Help? Thanks Kelly- Simplot2 map making...
So looking at making some maps for some scenarios to do. Curious how you go about that (making sure it's the right scale etc)?- Notching...
Thanks Tony! Sure looks like the Russians knew of this back then (well enough to teach the Iraqi pilots to do this). Strange I never really heard about this tactic until just recently. Makes you wonder how well the aerial battles would have worked out with the Soviets.- Notching...
Hellos, I am hearing quite a bit about 'notching' AAMs these days. I am curious was this a tactic back in the Cold War or is this something new? Thanks.- AAR: Convoy, medium opposed Nato transit Spoilers.....
Convoy, medium opposed NATO transit. Pretty straight forward scenario. I got two SAGs, one convoy of merchant ships and limited air assets. To win I just need to get the convoy to Narvik alive. I left all the surface ships on their starting courses and launched 3 F-16s to the north to CAP. Then sent one of my two P-3 Orions to the north roughly 151km off the coast to see what's out there. It didn't take long. My CAP detected incoming aircraft and I sent the fighters to intercept and called up some more to reinforce after changing their loadout from guided to air-to-air because I'm not sure how many Soviet aircraft I'm up against. There is only one enemy base to the north but I'm not risking my aircraft on that target, at least not yet anyways. My fighters must have been out of position because the Soviets volleyed off a barrage of AS-14 Kedge at Narvik before I could intercept them. My fighters smoked some Su-24 Fencers along with some MiG-23s. It wasn't all one sided though, 2 of my precious F-16s went down in a gun battle with the remaining Migs and Narvik suffered 22% damage to the ASMs. I pulled back the remaining fighter since it was winchester and launched more fighters that just completed their loadout change. This CAP I placed slightly north of Narvik in a covering position, hopefully they are in a good position to stop any more direct attacks. Meanwhile my P-3 located an enemy SAG along the coast to the north-west of Narvik. I immedately sent my two SAGs racing for that enemy group and had my P-3 launch it's four Harpoon ASMs just to see what was there. All four were shot down as expected but it used up some SAMs and I got a good idea of how the formation is laid out. I decided to keep the P-3 orbiting in the vicinty of the enemy SAG as a 'tattle-tail' so I would know where it was at all times. Next up I launched my other P-3 to commence a Harpoon attack on the SAG and about that time my northern SAG which consisted of 1 Oslo class FFG Trondheim and 4 Hauk PTMs rounded Rost Isle chain and headed straight for the Soviet SAG group, I hope I can get these guys into attack range but I seriously doubt it. I started getting air contacts to the north and sent off some more fighters just in case. This turned out to be nothing more then afew fighters that I would up chasing around but never getting a shot off. The P-3 coming up from the south launched it's Harpoons at max range and immedately turned tail and headed home. The 'tattle-tail' would be my eyes for damage assessment. The enemy SAG lofted abunch of SAMs and took down 3 of the harpoons. That final one found a Mod Kashin class destroyer named Slavny and slammed into it's side and detonated. The poor damage control abilities resulted in the destroyer rolling over and sinking shortly after the impact. As the Trondheim SAG approached, the Soviets saw them and launched SSMs, they also took out one of their own in the process. Three SS-N-22 Sunburns ripped into the Krivak II frigate Razitelny and sent her to the bottom. Not exactly sure what that was about. The wave of Soviet SSMs wiped out two of the Hauks and damaged the Trondheim, I decided to continue the attack with my remaining ships. Apparently the AI anticipated this. I had some of the F-16s rearm again for guided to begin attacking the SAG when I picked up another wave of enemy aircraft approaching the Trondheim SAG. I moved my CAP to intercept but like before they didn't get their until after the missiles were fired. A pair of Su-24 Fences went down along with some MiG-29 Fulcrums. The enemy ASMs made short work of my remaining Hauk PTMs. Now my memory fails me because I don't recall getting any missiles off from the Trondheim group but according to the log they did and managed to damage the Admiral Spiridonov a Udaloy class destroyer. Now I order the Trondheim to head back and around Rost to hide from the Soviets since it no longer has anything with which to hit them with short of gunfire. Once the F-16s rearmed I launched them at the enemy SAG and kept them low all the way to the launch point. The Mavricks made short work of the remaining ships. Now at this point I thought all I had to do was drive the mechant convoy to Narvik and declare myself the winner. Yea not so much. Someone launched some torpedoes toward the convoy. I quickly moved the P-3 to the contact area along with some helos. The Leander/3A class Andromeda ship absorbed the torpedo for the merchantmen and sank. The P-3 and helos promptly sunk both a Kilo and Tango boat. The contacts seemed to fade out at this point and I sped up game play until I was told I won a minumum victory. Game over . Good pace scenario and lots of different kinds of units and threats.- New maps?

- Ideas for helping AI
I agree at giving the AI time to develop enough information before launching all it's missiles. Maybe have the recon/patrol unit fly/sail slightly off axis for several minutes in an attempt to get a better picture of the situation, if after a certain time no more contacts arrive then have it commit to an attack (or not). I also agree on putting a value on the target, maybe even put a value on groups as well. Overall this would help to make conducting reconnaissance important as it is in real life.- Help with a fictional scenario Japan vs USSR 1990
You don't ask easy questions. I think the mere mention of a Exclusion Zone around the Home Islands by the Soviet Union would probably be enough for the merchant ship supply to evaporate cutting Japan off from much needed oil especially since it is the Japanese who are being aggressive in this instance. Japan has worked very hard to alienate themselves with regards to Asia prior to and including World War Two. Don't forget that there are also American forces at several bases in Japan which could result in possible 'accidents' with Soviet forces attempting to attack Japan proper or Japanese assets. Mig-29 and Su-27 aircraft were coming online along with some pretty solid Soviet submarines (Akula and Sierra classes) I believe any Japan advantage would be very short lived. I am not sure on the Japanese F-15 air to air refueling capable at that time though given the close proximity of the Home Island to the battlefield (Kuril Islands) that probably wouldn't matter much. The Japanese did have E-2 AWAC Hawkeys which would help in any air to air battle and the Soviet Mainstays were just coming online as well. Some of the forces the Soviets could use would be in the West and be required to either sail or fly out that way taking time to redeploy. These are just some thoughts I hope would help you out some. Not sure how/if people here on this forum are playing Command, I for one haven't purchased that game (not saying good or bad). There are some Harpoon scenarios for Russia vrs Japan available. Respectfully Kelly- Vote now for the 2008 Pooners!
Well I guess I'll throw my vote in here. I've just come back into the community after a long break dealing with life etc etc, so I don't have the distinction of knowing the work that many have done over the last few years I've been gone. 2008 Pooner vote for me is :Freek Schepers for the reasons other's have stated. I've not met Freek yet but from what I've heard/read he deserves this. Now the other canidate I do know: TonyE for lifetime award. That's my vote! Sincerely Kelly D. Crawford- The Mumbai attacks
This will be an interesting situation to see how the fallout plays itself out. Seeing reports on Yahoo that the United States passed along a warning recently about a waterboarn terrorist attack on the city of Mumbai. Maybe both Pakistan and India governments won't survive this episode....- The Mumbai attacks
Well I'm going to throw in my two cents here.... The timing is interesting, the American's have a President Elect who has stated he will be going back after the Taliban and Al Qaida(sp?) in Afghanistan and willing to make pin point attacks into Pakistan. The Pakistani army/government has made some progress in getting some of the tribes to turn against thier former 'guests'. Now the potential for a major confrontation with India will draw the Pakistani army to it's western border and away from the strongholds of Al Qaida/Taliban. There's also the pressure that America is already putting on the current government of Pakistan over this issue along with numerous missile strikes in the eastern region. I wonder if Al Qaida/Taliban didn't help train/finance Lashkar's nasty attack on India. A win-win situation for Al Qaida and the Taliban.... Here's the latest on the Burma front, Dewayne has launched a counter-attack towards Bangkok along the Here's China, the white circle denotes Dewayne's forces that USED to occupy Homan before they got the boot in my drive to Sian.- Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed
Amazing how fast the government said she died by self inflicted injury to the skull and produced a tape congratulating a known kingpin terrorist for the killing. Pity they foregoed the autopsy, just a minor detail and all that mumbo jumbo. Yeah I think this is going to get ugly before it gets any better. I watched the video of the attack itself and the guy was pretty darn close to her, even using one hand for the pistol he managed to get off what sounded like 4 shots at her before the explosion. I smell fish... Sincerely KellyC- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
Sad to say but this time around the American propaganda machine is correct. I have been stymied at every corner by the massed air armada that Dewayne can hurl at me. My navy hasn't been defeated in battle yet. My CVs remain afloat so there is still fight left in me, but my days as emperor are numbered now as they always had been. This is the problem when battling an opponent with unlimited resources and fightingmen. Dewayne has the initive now and as far as I can tell there is no way to get it back, Dewayne's forward defense is starting to pay huge dividends though it has cost him massive losses in both men and material. When I start to get depressed I merely glance upon the sunk ship list and this gives me some solace because of all the American CVs on that list . I'll try and do up a proper update to show the level of calamity that has befallen our beloved Empire of the Sun, as well as give you a picture of the dark forces now arrayed against the rightous leaders of the World.... Probably get to it on saturday if not later on next week (finally get to go on vacation). Sincerely Kelly-san- Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed
Just found out about this I truly hope that the General in charge over there didn't have anything to do with this but seeing how desparate he is to hold onto power makes one wonder. Very convientiant for him seeing how she was his main rival in the elections about to happen. My view has always been that everytime we support a dictator (regardless if their moderate or not), has always ended badly for America. My personal view has always been never to support these idiots because they aren't elected by the people and usually wind up an enemy of the people. Maybe one day we'll learn, and maybe not..... Sincerely KellyC- The NIE Report: Solving a Geopolitical Problem with Iran
Regardless of what the NIE report Bush has 'now' opted for Iranian even knowing the technology for developing a nuclear bomb as being grounds for continuing the confrontation. I expect things to continue down the same path, just with different wording which is usually Bush's style, at least for 1 more year anyway . Sincerely Kelly Crawford- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
Well we're into the new year and it's not going all that great. Here's an update along with afew pics to give you a feel for the war so far. In Burma, Dewayne finally launched his counter-offensive. Driving several of my units out of the way and throwing the rest across the river and into a heavily fortified city. He's got armor units mixed in as well and they can pursue after shock attacks (which they did, not sure how they can jump a river chasing after the enemy but that's the way the game engine works). Hopefully I can stall Dewayne out here for abit. I've got reinforcements on the way but it's just a matter of time. Now in China it's the opposite. I'm besiging Sian and Homan cities and it doesn't look like Dewayne has the firepower to prevent me from taking both cities. Java and the Pacific is the same as last update, I just can't seem to take that last major city on Java and Dewayne has sent in a bombardment force or two to blast my forces surrounding the city. Pagan Island is another matter and I learned that the Allied torpedoes are now becoming way more effective (guess they finally fixed that detonator problem). Dewayne is trying to fly in supplies and elements from the 24th Division but all he's doing is increasing my pilot experience along with their # of kills. C-47 Transports vrs Zeros is not a very healthy matchup for Allied pilots but it sure works for me. I'm building up my supplies and bringing in more material before launching my final attack. Dewayne is also using his heavies out of Bonin Island for support by hammering my Saipan airfields and doing a very effective job of it but I'm still getting my own bombers over Pagan so I'm not too worried. On the naval side of things it looks like both sides are weary of battle now. I've not seen Dewayne try to throw any surface or carriers at me again. I think both our naval forces here are beatup pretty good and in need of major rest and refit. We'll see though because Dewayne should be getting his Essex class CVs anytime (if he hasn't already). Well that's about all to report from the front for now. Hopefully the new year will bring good news for the Empire of Japan....or maybe not Sincerely Kelly-san- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
Well Dewayne's CVs went south toward Saipan and ran into my own CVs coming north for him. Needless to say we had ourselves a CV battle on Christmas Day, but after Dewayne mauled a surface group of mine, wasting precious sorties on ships that couldn't hurt his CVs. So far from what I can tell it was a pretty fair exchange of blows, I torpedoed Wasp twice and hit the other units but not sure how bad. NOthing of mine got sunk outright but some of my CVs are limping back to port, which is a whole 3 hexes away. Dewayne on the otherhand has quite a distance to cover before he can reach safety. Kelly-san- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
Somehow I don't think Dewayne's forces on Pagan Island won't be around too much longer, regardless of what D says. As I predicted Dewayne has had to bring out his Carriers since he's run out of battleships. As we speak the CVE Nassau and probably the Wasp are making another run toward Pagan Island after regrouping and replenishing fuel and aircraft. Also making plans to counter Dewayne's airfarce strikes from Bonin Group. Within a month or so Dewayne's units on Pagan will be in a POW camp. Long live the Empire Kelly-san- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
That's true, however Dewayne is going to need to conduct his amphibious shipping without all those Battleships to provide naval gunfire support. His men are going to charge across beaches and into murderous (and rightious) Japanese defenders battling to save their empire...errr Homeland. I have a feeling Dewayne will resort to invading under heavy air support and that's one area were he'll make constant headway against me. Kelly- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
Seeing how the kids are at gramma's house and the woman is at work, the mice will play. Another turn and afew surprises. As I predicted the Wasp makes an appearance off Pagan Island, puts a hurt on my BBs but they don't sink anything. I on the otherhand, got to see a nice surprise message scroll by. USS Maryland sinks.... Followed by a wonderful airstrike on one of Dewayne's retreating surface groups... Day Air attack on TF at 64,58 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 6 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 6 damaged Allied Ships BB Washington, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage Dewayne still hasn't figured out the air support thingie yet and it's costing him capitol ships. The Washington is a goner and once that happens I'll have put down a total of 11 Battleships and 1 Battlecruiser throughout the whole war (to date, maybe I'll get some more before it's over. If there are any left). Another glorious day for the empire...now to drive off the Wasp (or send her to the bottom). Sincerely Kelly-san- War in the Pacific 1941-1945
