Submarine Noise and Signatures
Some days ago I saw Brad has reduced in the last iteration of the DB in one unit the sound value of the submarines in the DB. I think is an usual change, I perceived it because in the previous iteration I was thinking about the sound value of the submarines and noting they are adjusted to the real values. This thinking was based mainly in the data published on the famous table of Submarines of the Russian and Soviet Navies:1718-1990, of Polmar and Noot, Naval Institute Press, Annapolis,1991. Today, reckoning about it but not searching data about the topic, I've finded casually this page base on the mentioned table and parallel data of other books: http://web.archive.org/web/20050309221955/...al/e_noise.html If we take the values of the column Noise Level - discrete frequencies in 5-200Hz, divide it by 10, and multiply by 2.5 and round the result, we obtain in all the modern submarines represented in the DB almost the same noise values the DB has from the last iteration !!! i.e. you can test it with the Los Angeles and 688(I) classes ... Only some old boats and old Russian boats have greater values as rellected in the table Very impressive.

Requests for the HCDB (Official DB of HCE) and HCDB2
Thanks for the good reception of the proposed submarine entries, Brad About the sources: basically the motivation was my old research in the Harpoon Gold Edition and previous computer or paper rules editons, were I included a lot of submarines or variant of submarines 1980-1991. The sources are from the 1990-1991 Edition of the Data Annex (We have a lot more of data and details nowadays ..., in one of the suplements or original rules they were ONLY two types of soviet torpedoes: "Type 53" and "Type 40" ) to the current White Ensign and High Tide supplements, passing by the two editions of the South Atlantic War. All that jazz complemented with Conway's 1947-1995, Jane's 2005 (I hope next I will receive a copy from a second-hand retailer of Jane's 2002 and 1982 ... and 1940, but I think they are not very detailed books ). Other old and seminal Salamander books cited on Harpagamer in other posts, World Naval Weapons Systems of Naval Institute Press, other curious books about naval guns as Naval Guns, 500 Years of Ship and Coastal Artillery by Hans Mehl, or a pair of superb books by Christopher Chant near 1991, the recent year of most classes of boats in service: Small Craft Navies and Sea Forces of The World. Also, even the worst or strangest book can have some rare details about everything (The Failures and Repercussions of Naval Design and Construction 1860 to the Present Day. The World's Worst Warships by Anthony Preston can be an easy example). And we can't forget the web. Most of the data in Wikipedia are extracted of the books cited, but the Wikipedia is very useful sometimes for fast cross-checking data and for in service and decommissining dates). Navweaps is a must for guns, and is based in metanalysis of published date in almost every book we know. http://www.navweaps.com And ever sometimes the worst or doubtiful redacted web site has scarce, very detailed or rare data (We can remember the splendid sites about the Oklahoma City or Girodyne Helicopters, as example of detailed and rare data site, as Talos or Weapon Alpha, of course, not of bad web site ). http://www.okieboat.com/ http://www.gyrodynehelicopters.com/ And as example of irregular sites with rare data: http://web.archive.org/web/20050309221955/...al/e_noise.html (explanation in a future separated post). http://www.rnsubs.co.uk/Boats/BoatDB2/index.php http://www.britsub.net/ Other times we can obtain data of long time consuming analysis of the pictures, ship positioning and refits and text of sites as Navysite.de, Navysource.org or Gonavy.jp (sometimes bad dated in tens of years, beware !) ... someday I will write about the Knoxes ... http://www.navsource.org/ http://www.navysite.de/ http://gonavy.jp/ And never forget the Russian sites, they are on-line translators for not translated sites: http://www.online-translator.com/ http://russian-ships.info/eng/ http://www.submarine.id.ru/sub.php?945 http://www.deepstorm.ru/ http://ruspodlodka.narod.ru/plark.htm And at last we need use some informed guesses, based on the refit dates obtained sometimes on web sites of the old ship complements, and in the in service and out of service dates of the weapon systems. About the shortage of mounts ... I see, but I think we have almost every possible mount now on this time period in the DB, and the 2016 for the next DB is near us I think we don't will need a lot of new "old" mounts in the resting surface ships from 2011 to 2015, and from 1980 to 1991, only perhaps a few new or old missile mounts and a few more submarine mounts, but I will be cautious in my proposed platforms

Requests for the HCDB (Official DB of HCE) and HCDB2
Now at last some of the structurated and more interesting requests (the A-7 and F-4 request were only temporary disgressions ), based on the current annexes, and White Ensign and High Tide, personal research and my old Harpoon Gold DB (I think the DB was initially frozen near 1991, Brad's tremendous effort has introduced a lot of later platforms, but for the 1980-2015 time period we need some older platform deleted before 1990. Regretably the loadout limit is a problem, but we can live with it and add more sea plaforms ... ): Valiant & Churchill-classes SSN: We can add a new entry: Valiant (1979-1988). Boats to include: Valiant , Warspite. Conventional propeller. Tigerfish Mod 1 (1979-1986?) and Mk8. UGM-84B SubHarpoon from 1981 (I saw the SubHarpoon were deployed operationally from 1981, but not employed in the South Atlantic War). Radar 1003 Sonar 2001 (Hull) Sonar 2007 (Flank) Sonar 2024 (Towed) Sonar 197 (Hull/Intercept) We can add a new entry: Churchill (1979-1986)(also called Repeat Valiant, quieter than Valiant). Boats to include: Churchill, Conqueror, Courageous. Equipped with slow pump jet (perhaps from 1973), 10 knots creep speed?. Tigerfish Mod 1 (1979-1986?) and Mk8. UGM-84B SubHarpoon from 1981 (I saw the SubHarpoon were deployed operationally from 1981, but not employed in the South Atlantic War). Radar 1006 Sonar 2001(Hull) Sonar 2007 (Flank) Sonar 2024 (Towed) Sonar 197 (Hull/Intercept) Valiant (1989-1994)(The current 6191 entry). Boats to include: Valiant, Warspite. Conventional propeller. Tigerfish Mod 2 (1986-2004). UGM-84B SubHarpoon from 1981 (I saw the SubHarpoon were available in 1982, but not employed in the South Atlantic War). Type 1003 Sonar 2001(Hull) Sonar 2007 (Flank) Sonar 2046 (Towed) Sonar 2019 PARIS (Hull/Intercept) We can add a new entry: Churchill (1987-1992)(also called Repeat Valiant). Boats to include: Churchill, Conqueror, Courageous. Tigerfish Mod 2 (1986-2004). UGM-84B SubHarpoon from 1981 (I saw the SubHarpoon were available in 1982, but not employed in the South Atlantic War). Radar 1006 Sonar 2001 (Hull) Sonar 2007 (Flank) Sonar 2046 (Towed) Sonar 2019 PARIS (Hull/Intercept) Post modified 17 September 2015, because some "new" old Jane's and an e-mail interchange in the Admiral Trilogy Group (thanks for your very interesting comments and info, MM) motivated me to revise the data. Sonar 2020 was in active service only from 1985 and almost sure never employed in Valiant and Churchill classes, both sub-classes employing Sonar 2001 as main hull sonar from start to end of career. Also Sonar 197 was a passive ranging/intercept sonar (perhaps an UK version of the French DUUG-1), replaced near 1985 by Sonar 2019 PARIS passive (some source. as Chris Chant, says active/passive, but I doubt it very much) longer range ranging/intercept sonar, an UK version of the French DUUG-1.

Another pair of aircrafts of very easy modelling keeping the previous loadouts, basically for more flavour on the plane types: F-4C Phantom II (1964-1989): very similar to F-4B, we can use almost the same loadouts. APQ-100 radar, AS/SS, range 50, PH=50 (my own estimates). AIM-9B/P Sidewinder. AIM-7D/E Sparrow III. SUU-16 20mm Gatling cannon in defective underfuselage pod with 1200 rounds from April 1967, later replaced by the improved SUU-23/A. AGM-12C Bullpup B. GBU-10A/B Paveway I. ALE-29/39. ALQ-71/87/101 (ALQ-71 from October 1966. ALQ-87 at least from November 1967). 1xMk28 or B43 Nuke. All that equipment can be reduced in the post-1980 time period to AIM-9P Sidewinder, AIM-7E Sparrow III, SUU-23, GBU-10A/B (the latest AGM-12C Bullpup was retired in the earlier 1980s), ALE-39, ALQ-101 and B43 Nuke. Also the F-4C is all-weather capable, IFR, RWR (from near 1967), IRST. On the Vietnam War from April 1966. 583 build. 36 employed by Spain (1971-1989). F-4D Phantom II (1966-1989): very similar to F-4B, we can use almost the same loadouts. APQ-109 radar, AS/SS, range 55, PH=50 (my own estimates). AIM-4D Falcon (1967-1968). AIM-9B Sidewinder AIM-9E Sidewinder (from 1967) AIM-9J Sidewinder from summer 1972, later AIM-9P/N (at least from 1984), and later AIM-9L/M. A pair or three aircrafts of very easy modelling keeping the previous loadouts, basically for more flavour on the plane types: A-7E (1970-1991): it’s now in the DB, but include the HARM added from 1986. Initially without FLIR, probably added only from 1986, perhaps we can add the HARM in the existent entry and create another older variant without FLIR neither HARM. 535 build. A-7D (1970-1993): USAF and ANG land variant of the A-7 Corsair II. As the A-7E but without FLIR (FLIR added only from 1986). 459 build. A-7K (1981-1993): two-seat ANG land variant of the A-7 Corsair II. As the A-7E, also with FLIR, but some 10 knots top speed slower. 30 build.

File Name: Supporting Argentina 1982 File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 28 Oct 2011 File Category: Caribbean Basin Supporting Argentina, 2 Juny 1982. Another simple and introductory scenario ... or perhaps not, anytime with a lot of things to do. Note: In this scenario, to avoid spoilers, it is better to play the US/UK/NL/Blue side a few times, and only after play the Soviet/South American/Red side. On 1982 it was a lot of speculation about the possibility of a Soviet Union attack against the Western Forces, because the compromise of the British Forces in the South Atlantic War. Argentina has invoked the Rio Treaty of 1947 and some Latin American countries of doubtious political stability and affiliation in the Cold War had created a blockade in the mid-Atlantic between the British ships detached in the South Atlantic and Europe, and later had joined the Soviet side in the campaing against the Allied Forces. On this scenario the South American countries with Soviet and Cuban support attempt to prevent the use of the sea lanes to the Western Forces. The Western Forces attempt is to exit some merchant ships loaded with vital assets to the North Atlantic Ocean, East of Bermuda, and to keep the sea dominance breaking multiple lines of enemy attacks. The Soviet/Latin Forces must prevent the Western Side to achieve his goal, and to cause the bigger amount of damage possible. Number of ships to be sunked by the Blue side increased proportionally to the now greater number of Red side ships. -

I think I will want to do some testing and experimentation before installing ship capable Broncos in the DB. Others are, of course, invited to test (or comment upon) the utility of the idea as well. Ok, Brad, thanks. The OV-10 amphibious-ship capable is not a priority and I've not in mind any scenario with it, it's only a rarity I finded reading about the OV-10 when I saw it was very easy to make a lot of variants with only two loadouts

Alternatively we can made VTOL the USMC variants of OV-10 to avoid see other types on the deck of the amphibious ships ...

Are you suggesting that those ships be made STOL capable? I think they were STOL capable previously and we only need the carrier capable flag in the Bronco! (Yes, I see now her runway is VTOL only) Only very recently I've discovered that capability of the Bronco and amphibious ships. In some places I've read the Bronco can only take-off but not landing in the ships, but I think it's untrue. Some references: http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/tarawaassaultship.html http://navysite.de/ships/lha4.htm http://www.uscarriers.net/lha4history.htm http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=VO8BAdZ...ips&f=false And I finded a reference about a complement of 4xOV-10 in some assault ships on the chaotic http://gonavy.jp site, but I dont find now the reference !

Another idea of easy execution, OV-10 Bronco variants, employing the same current loadouts of the type but adding flavour to the DB (and the exotic operation of the USMC Broncos from the amphibious ships ): OV-10A Bronco (USAF, 1968-1991): 157 aircraft for the USAF, as the current OV-10F (Indonesia, entry 10528). OV-10A Bronco (USMC, 1968-1989): 114 aircraft as the OV-10A for the USMC, but operable from LPH and LHA ships. Other 18 USMC aircraft operated by the USN and transferred after Vietnam again to the USMC. OV-10C Bronco (1971-2004): as the OV-10A but without AIM-9 capability, 32 aircraft operated by Thailand (and 6 more transferred on 1977 to replace loses), survivors donated to Phillipines. OV-10D Bronco NOS (1980-1989): derivative of the YOV-10D Vietnam experience, 18 units converted for the USMC. Adds more powerful engines, higher ceiling, FLIR in lengthened nose, chaff and flare decoys (ALE-29?, ALE-39?), IR suppressed exhaust and underwing drop tanks (But deleting the AIM-9 carriage capability in the new pylons). Operable from LPH and LHA. OV-10D Plus SLEP (1990-1994): 42 OV-10A and 15 OV-10D converted for the USMC, with the improved engines of the Y/OV-10D, higher ceiling, AAS-37 FLIR in lenghtened nose, chaff and flare decoys (ALE-39), IR suppressed exhaust, underwing drop tanks (Reinstating the AIM-9 carriage capability), and adding ALQ-144 IRCM and RWR (APR-39, later AAR-47 after Desert Storm). Operable from LPH and LHA. OV-10E (1976+): as the OV-10A. 16 aircraft for Venezuela. 18 OV-10A more transferred from the USAF in 1991. Survivors converted in OV-10A/E SLEP with four blades propellers (from 2009) and AAQ-22 Safire FLIR in lengthened nose. http://www.fav-club.com/index.php?option=c...n&Itemid=18 OV-10A (1992+): 24 aircraft for Philippines from the US stocks. Later added 9 more, and other 8 more OV-10C donated by Thailand in 2003-2004. Survivors converted in OV-10A SLEP with four blades propellers. OV-10A (1981, Morocco): 6 aircraft transferred from the USMC and employed against the Polisario guerilla. Two remaining. Pretended purchase of a grand total of 24 aircraft prevented after the loss of two planes of the first batch of 6. http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_352.shtml http://www.ov-10bronco.net/morocco.cfm

Original idea, but I suspect the F-22 problems are real, you dont need uberstealth to fight against Libya, less when it's not a covert action ...

I was suspecting an Israeli radar because the not mention of the radar. Clearly yes, Elta EL/M-2055, as I have finded (with the smatphone!) In: http://periodicals.faqs.org/201012/2241337341.html At home now. Thinking in a new scenario, I see the elemental and widely exported Komar PTM is not in the DB http://russian-ships.info/eng/warfareboats/project_183r.htm ( ... and the SS Barbel-class ) When I finished the scenario, I will post new structured (and easy) requests ... thanks !

I know the endemic problem of slots shortage for loadouts, but two ideas can be: The French UAV Harfang, I'dont like it very much, and apparently only four units produced, but it has operated in Afghanistan and Libya. I was thinking in some generic blank loadout with a 540 nm range but I've finded none ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EADS_Harfang About the Israeli Kfir: The present in the DB Kfir C.7 was employed by the Israeli Air Force between 1983 and 1996, and perhaps can represent the previous Kfir C.2 (1976-1991), but I see some minor errours in the present entry: - Kfir has RWR. - Kfir C.7 should carry Python 3 (1978), not Python 4 (1993). - The ARM missile should be the AGM-45 Shrike, not the heavier AGM-78 Standard. Perhaps we can add the Kfir C.2, using only the dumb loadouts of the Kfir C.7 and the Shrike loadout (but Kfir C.2 has slighty shorter range and as AAM the Shafrir 2 and the AIM-9D/G), but it's not important. Tomorrow other ideas more constructive, I hope ...

Requests for the HCDB (Official DB of HCE) and HCDB2
At last I've finished the work of translate the new platforms implemented by Brad in the DB (I'm thinking Brad has learned good Russian language in the last gigantic task, full of new Soviet/Russian units, and a lot of clearing in fixing in old Soviet/Russian units ) Some very minor issues: Sverdlov 68A (3333) is without sensors. The project designation of the ship 3347 entry Mukha (1141.1) should be Mukha (1145.1). The ship entry (3348) Slepen (205PE) lacks the name of the only one ship of the class, AK-225. The missile used by the mounts named SA-N-5 Grail should be the Strela-2M/9K32MF variant of the SA-7b Grail/Strela-2M/9K32M (1970), not the SA-7a Grail/Strela-2/9K32 (1967). The missile used by the mounts named SA-N-8 Gremlin should be the Strela-3F variant of the SA-14 Gremlin/Strela-3/3M56 (1974), not the SA-18 Grouse/Igla/9K38 (1983). The missile used by the later mount SA-N-10 Gimlet should be the Igla-M/9K38M variant of the SA-18 Grouse/Igla/9K38 (1983), not a variant of the initial SA-16 Gimlet/Igla-1/9K310 (1981). The mount should be renamed SA-N-10 Grouse. The initial production missile was the SA-16 Gimlet/Igla-1/9K310 (1981), superseded by the SA-18 Grouse/Igla/9K38 (1983) a pair of years later. As alternative, and because the apparent existence in the real world of SA-N-14 Grouse mounts, we can introduce SA-N-14 Grouse mounts with SA-18 Grouse/Igla/9K38 (1983). Confussion between the Neptune and Neptun radars: The DB apparenlty confuses the French Triton/Neptune radar, used by many Combattante series of patrol boats and a great number of Israeli warships, with AS and SS capabilities, with the old USSR Neptun radar, only with SS capability (i.e., in the DB many modern israeli warships are sharing the radar named Neptune with old USSR patrol boats of the 1950s !!!!)

The F-35 Saga
Spain, Italy, Australia and probably Japan need the F-35B for the CVHs. Better to ax the F-35C and use advanced F/A-18E/F or Rafales for the CVs.

File - Carribean Basin -Red Spanish Main, Juny 1986
File Name: Red Spanish Main, Juny 1986 File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 03 Oct 2011 File Category: Caribbean Basin Red Spanish Main, Juny 1986. A simple and introductory scenario ... or perhaps not. Note: In this scenario, to avoid spoilers, it is better to play the US/Blue side a few times, and only after play the Soviet/Red side. 1986 was a year full of events with strategic implications, some of them very unexpected: Soviet war in Afghanistan, US retaliatory strikes on Libya against the Gaddafi's terrorist actions, Challenger disaster, launching of the Mir space station, Chernobyl atomic disaster in the Soviet Union ... Many things and alternative historical lines of action could go wrong and degenerate in an open war. The first reform of Mikhail Gorbachev, the new Secretary General of the Politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, was a heavy restriction in the sales of vodka to prevent the alcoholism in the Soviet Union. This measure provocked the overthrowing of Gorbachev and a new Politburo composed exclusively by Communist Party of the Soviet Union hard-liners. As consequence, at the unexpected hostilities start some ships of the Soviet Red Banner Northern Fleet showing the flag in neighbouring fellow countries are trapped in the Spanish Main, like the long time ago vanished pirates, and they need to reach the safe haven of Havana (near YVa) in eight days or so, before the US can concentrate forces coming from the East Coast and the Northern Atlantic in the Caribbean to obliterate them. Is confirmed the presence of the nuclear-powered battlecruiser Kirov in the trapped forces, but her presence is balanced because the supposed dominance of the newly recommissioned battleship BB-61 Iowa and her surface action group, after the reactivation of the battleships by the aim of President Ronald Reagan and Secretary of the Navy John Lehman to create a 600-ship navy, and just after the correction of her deficiencies after a recent InSurv inspection. Also, Hurricane Bonnie precludes the use of land-based air assets, prevents the use of air strikes and reconnaissance planes against the Soviet ships, and masks his transit to the Cuban harbours.
