I think I would prefer it be something the scenario author could do, when aircraft are added to a scenario, but the fallback position would be to hardwire ready times into the loadouts set out in the DB.

And what I mean here is that by allowing the scenario editor to vary ready times, there is potential to effectively limit magazines.
  4. 22 October 2007 Tamil Tiger rebels carry out a raid against Anuradhapura Air Force Base, in Sri Lanka. They destroy eight aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), and damage 10 others.

Definitely that's the kind of stuff that would come into play, though I expect any model we would be able to implement is going to be significantly less complex.
  6. A-7 Corsair II finally retires from service (Jane's)
  7. 21 October 1905 The Royal Navy's Diadem class cruiser HMS Niobe is transferred to the newly established Royal Canadian Navy, becoming HMCS Niobe and its first warship.

This may sound strange, but the more I play CMANO, the more similarities I am seeing with how HCE plays in a general sense. The biggest differences (in broad terms) are the ready times and the magazines. The rest is mostly detail. I think if we were able to adopt varied ready times, we could get most of the way there in terms of what is offered by both ready times and magazines.
  11. China's Navy Is Already Challenging the US in Asia (The Diplomat)
  12. 17 October 1941 The US Navy Benson Livermore class destroyer USS Kearny (DD-432) becomes the first US Navy to be torpedoed by a German U-boat (the Type VIIC U-568), while on patrol off Greenland. Flooding was controlled, preventing the ship from sinking and allowing her escape to Iceland.
  13. 16 October 1964 The People's Republic of China conducts its first nuclear weapons test, with the detonation of a 22 kiloton implosion fission device codenamed 596 (or, in the West, Chic-1), at Lop Nur.
  14. 15 October 2003 Shenzhou 5, the first human spaceflight by the People's Republic of China, is launched.
  15. Heh, great analysis, Enrique. Certainly leans in the direction of weight concerns and top heaviness being the real concerns behind the switch.
  16. Well, CMANO inherits more than a few of Harpoon's limitations, imho, but that aside ... what about the 57mm vs 30mm?
  17. This is exemplified in the CMANO scenario "Op Brass Drum" when a Zumwalt, a Burke and two LCS are set upon by 'pop up' threats posed by Iranian fast attack craft. The realism of the teleport appearance of the Iranian threat aside, the 57mm does help to keep the attackers at bay (not quite a swarm) and if they are in 30mm range, you are likely going to get hurt. Even so, you find yourself wanting much more than the 57mm and God help you if a real "swarm" suddenly appeared.
  18. 14 October 1962 A U-2C piloted by Major Richard Heyser takes over 900 photographs while on a reconnaissance mission over western Cuba, among them images of what would be identified the following day as a SS-4 (NATO Sandal) medium range ballistic missile site under construction at San Cristobal, Pinar del Rio.

  20. France Delays Mistral Delivery to Russia, But Still Meets Deadline: Russian Source (RIA Novosti)
  21. 10 October 1953 The Mutual Defense Treaty is established between the United States and the Republic of (South) Korea.
  22. Navy to commission missile defense base in Romania (Stars and Stripes)
  23. 9 October 2006 North Korea conducts its first detonation of a nuclear device.
