  2. 20 November 1945 The Nuremberg trials begin in the city of Nuremberg, Germany.
  3. Expert: Navy Should Revise Outer Air Battle Concept (USNI News) I think I agree with him. As Harpoon will show you, if you're having to use your SM-2/-3/-6 to defend the battle group, you're already backpedaling. And you can't carry enough of them (or afford them).
  4. 19 November 1941 The Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney and German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran meet off Dirk Hartog island, Western Australia, and engage in a 30 minute battle that results in their mutual destruction. Sydney is lost with all hands, being the largest loss of life in the history of the Royal Australian Navy and the largest Allied warship lost with all hands during World War II. The wreck of Kormoran is located on 12 March 2008, followed by Sydney five days later.
  5. 18 November 1916 The terrible First Battle of the Somme, which had begun 1 July and killed or wounded more than a million men, is finally called off by British Expeditionary Force commander General Sir Douglas Haig.
  6. 17 November 1869 After 10 years of construction, the Suez Canal is inaugurated.
  7. Unless we can adjust sonobuoy endurance in the DB, and clearly we cannot (as of now), I think the current one hour value ought to remain. This is because of the unlimited number of sonobuoys available aboard the ship or airfield being used by the rotary or fixed wing aircraft dropping the buoys, as well as the unlimited number of datalink channels. The limited endurance (especially as it pertains to passive buoys) acts as a buffer against this limitation. As for total number of sonobuoys in use simultaneously in a scenario, its a low priority issue because we rarely if ever see those numbers in play. In fact, I'd rather go in the other direction (reduce total number in play) because of the realism issues earlier mentioned.
  8. Given the limited space, I'd suggest selecting a similar ship and then renaming it in the SE.

  12. Thinking of returning to work on this database. But, as always, DB work lacks appeal if no one is creating scenarios. Would you folks write (and more importantly, share!) new and interesting scenarios? In the meantime ... CF-XX Super Arrow

  14. 12 November 1944 The RAF launches Operation Catechism, the final of a series of attempts to sink the German battleship Tirpitz. A force of 32 Lancasters drop 29 Tallboy bombs on the battleship, moored off Hakoya island, near Tromso, in Norway. She is struck by two bombs, and a near miss, and soon capsizes.
