  1. Sounds like a useful way of dealing with Rafales. The F-16s aren't "impervious", btw, and in general are inferior to the Rafales when it comes to both detection and in defeating missile attacks on them. The Block 50/52+ with ECM pod is the only F-16 version that can match Rafale.
  2. It certainly isn't useless, because I use it regularly with success. But it is (of course) less accurate than having a solid fix on the target. The point you must understand here is that the bearing to the uncertain target (the target that lies in an uncertainty zone) must usually lie between the Shooter and the target, and not necessarily between the friendly Detector and the target. If the shooter and the detector are one and the same, then great, its not usually a problem. If the shooter lies behind the detector, or even in front of it, and you can draw a straight line that connects all three, then you're still ok. But if the shooter and the detector are separate platforms, and have separate, widely spaced bearings to the same target, then it is pointless for the shooter to try and exploit the bearing being picked up by the detector. Let me know if this is becoming clear, otherwise I will try and illustrate with screenshots.
  3. I have to admit to wondering about that myself, though most probably because it does matter in real life. There, multiple acoustic homing torpedoes can potentially interfere with one another. In HCE, I have a feeling that it doesn't matter. I haven't observed any relationship between multiple launches and hit probability. We generally just call it the "animation". It shows missile or torpedo hits, misses and point defense hits (against an incoming missile). It does not distinguish between whether a miss was caused by spoofing (successful countermeasures) or would not have hit anyway (just a bad roll of the die). In conventional terms, a "near miss" generally refers to a miss that was near enough to have caused some damage, such as a bomb or missile that does not directly strike the target but is close enough to have inflicted damage by shrapnel or blast. In HCE terms, there is no such beast, as everything is either a solid hit or a clean miss.
  4. Then obviously you did not fully grasp what was being said, because the issue is exactly the same. Not only should the uncertainty polygon or 'window' be narrow, but you must also shoot down its length. In other words, down the line of bearing. It was "goofy" because you weren't shooting down the line of bearing. In other words, if your shooter doesn't have matched bearings, your missile will be launched (and will seek) in the completely wrong direction, as you witnessed. I really don't want to have to produce screenshots of this, but if you really aren't getting it, I suppose I will have to.

  8. No, in fact you're okay there. As long as you have a solid fix at the moment of launch. If you lose the fix after launch, the ARM will still actually work as it is supposed to (in real life).
  9. Rafale was in competition for the South Korean F-X requirement at one point. One of the great thing about writing hypothetical scenarios is that I get to choose the OOB, like I did for Middleweights.

    There is no way to actually conduct "photo reconnaissance" in the scenario or the game. You can simulate it by overflying the enemy target but it has no bearing on the outcome. It should be noted that performing a "photo recon", simulated or otherwise, is not a victory condition. It is just part of the storyline for the orders, or in other words, just 'filler' to represent the kind of thing that you might be expected to do in real life. I would say the key to this scenario is related to "Contingency Plan Delta", also mentioned in the orders. Though it doesn't spell out exactly what you need to do, when you relate it to the photo recon mission, I think you can figure it out. (I don't want to post the Victory Conditions here, but you can look them up with the SE if you're so inclined).
  11. Your understanding of real life HARM function is correct, but there is a limitation in the current GE code that prevents anti-radar missiles (ARMs) from working effectively in the BOL mode.

  25. That's true, especially in a cluttered environment / 'busy' scenario. Suffice to say that if you are within 255 nm of an enemy airfield (the limit of a formation patrol), you're in the badlands. Keep your head up.
