I'm looking for feedback on a general "outline" for an alternate history World War III I could use to develop scenarios... November 1, 1983. After the Falklands War, having studied British tactics, American assistance, and the economic effects on the West of fighting a war, the Soviets decide to seize control of Western Europe. Their main approach is threefold: destroy as many NATO bases as possible with lightning strikes, sink as many NATO ships as possible with submarines, and conduct a massive land invasion of Germany and France. Once Germany and France are secure, and the Soviets have control of their ports, the rest of Europe can be negotiated with. N…

File Name: Battle of Damascus File Submitter: Steven File Submitted: 15 Oct 2012 File Category: Scenarios A joint service scenerio with USN, USAF and Turkish units tackling a heavily fortified Damascus. Blue side must react towards an aggressive regime by neutralizing WMD sites and a Russian air base while boarding a suspect arms ship and position a helo to recover US Special Forces in downtown Damascus. You must also hunt down the defunct leader of the country. The Russians have sided with Damascus and have conveniently positioned the air base with bombers somewhere in eastern Syria that is moderately guarded with a wing of fighters. It is a distance from the …

After designing a scenerio and closing the editor, I'll open the game and open the scenerio that I just created. All of the enemy ships will appear on the screen. This seems to happen after being in the scenerio editor and displaying both sides at once. What gives? Thanks, Steve

Okay, I was bored and I put together some tables for randomly generating scenario ideas. I figured I would share them with folks. Use as many as you need to come up with a good story. Enjoy! I hope they inspire many fun scenarios! First, we need to know when the story takes place: Year of Crisis 1-2: Cold War: 1970 + 1d20 3-4: Turn of the Century: 1990 + 1d20 5-6: Present and Near Future: 2010 + 1d20 (This gives us a range from 1971 to 2030, which is actually beyond the official range of the HUD-4, but allows for more historical and speculative scenarios. There are enough older platforms in the HUD-4 that one can handle a lot of the 1970s p…

I very much doubt this scenario will ever come to pass, but what if... Terrorists, working with Iran, and able to develop a small nuclear weapon, which they sneak into a major city and then detonate. In Boston, near Logan airport, killing tens of thousands of people and doing billions of dollars of property damage. Among the dead are thousands of children. Twelve hours later, the President is on TV and he says, "Throughout this long struggle, we have always tried to remember that we represent civilization, rather than savagery. That ended with these murders. Now we are at war, and we will do whatever is necessary to win. To our allies and friends around the…

File Name: The Haruyuki Saga (2015) File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 16 Sep 2013 File Category: Scenarios For my 30th scenario of 2013, I tried something different. This is actually a trio of scenarios, following the Japanese destroyer Haruyuki (DD 128) through one fateful week in 2015, as she is suddenly thrust into the center of a conflict between Japan and North Korea. Since the events take place over the course of only a few days, the Haruyuki and the submarine assisting her, the Wakashio (SS 587) are not able to resupply, and so they will have fewer and fewer weapons as the scenarios progess. This was accomplished by using the logistics editing …

Friends, While playing around with ideas for scenarios, I came up with the following notion...what if China, in return for a lot of oil, sold Mauritania a gob of military equipment...roughly speaking, a squadron of a dozen JF-17s, about half-a-dozen patrol boats and missile boats (Type 62, Type 37, etc.), some SAMs to protect their main airport/airbase, a couple of Y-8 maritime patrol planes, and a healthy supply of stuff that goes boom! when you fire it at people. By 2017, the stuff has arrived, pilots have been trained, etc. So, I'm asking the hive mind, who might Mauritania get into a serious brawl with? Neighbors like Morocco? The E.U. (I guess relations wi…

Freek Scheepers and I played Fortress Keflavik, created using the community's favourite database, the Players DB. This must be the longest game I've ever played, to the length that I can't actually remember it all. Freek will be able to cover it in more depth. Some basic events, in no real order: Discovering that "Forgers" are completely useless against fighters Losing my SSGNs fairly quickly Destroying a P-3 with an SA-N-8 from a "Kilo" I launched my "Backfires" on their own when they should have had fighter escort and I probably launched my SSMs too early. I also shouldn't have turned the first wave back, as it cost me twenty hours. I didn't …

Herman, Freek and I got together yesterday evening for a game of Shadow the Boomer, created especially for the community's favourite databsase, the Players DB. This is a three-sided scenario, with the US, UK and Russia. I took the USA, mistakenly thinking it had the boomer. I found myself in command of an early model Los Angeles SSN, La Jolla. My mission was to find a "Delta" boomer and shadow it. ROEs permitted engagement only if I was fired upon. In a hurry to get into the location and thinking, clearly incorrectly, that I could run deep at 14 knots without being detected, I headed south. Suddenly, I detected two torpedo contacts, USET-80s. I launched back o…

Here is another main plot to be used for various scenarios. I would be grateful for any opinions, feedback, etc. regarding how plausible it is, what else might happen, etc... The genius of the Chinese plot was its simplicity. The West was prepared to fight a couple of regional wars, but not half-a-dozen all at once. And that was exactly what China and its allies gave them... On August 1, 2015, at 6 AM Greenwich, almost to the minute, simultaneous attacks began around the world... * North Korea initiated an invasion of South Korea; North Korea also launched a series of attacks against Japan designed to cripple their military power and shipping * China initi…
