March 7, 201115 yr File Name: Follow Up 2013 File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 6 Mar 2011 File Category: Scenarios DB Used: HUD3 Authors: Mark Gellis Battleset: No Information This is one of my first attempts to write a scenario for H3, using the HUD3 database. It's pretty simple, but still a bit challenging, I think. Please let me know what you think. Mark Click here to download this file
March 8, 201115 yr Mark, ok, got some minutes for a first glance. Selecting the Task Force and switching to formation editor I saw that you have not created stations for the different ships. Thus most of them sit on each other. In H3, the typical way to set up a group is to create the units, then group them. After that you select the group, open the formation editor and add stations for the ships. You can add stations for fixed wing aircraft and helos, too. I´ll rebuild the scen this way and post it here. This may help you in understanding how to build up formations in H3. Regards, Ralf
March 8, 201115 yr Mark, ok, just rebuild it with the following mods: repositioned the ships which sat on each other edited the group in formation editor, all ships have stations now plotted a course for the group thus the ASW threat axis points into the direction of movement (the ASW threat axis automatically shifst into the direction of a plotted course - not so the ASuW and AAW axis) repositioned the AAW and ASuW threat axis in the formation editor, now pointing in the direction of movement set the sub to shallow depth (periscope by default) and plotted a course (by plotting courses for both the SAG and the sub the AI has a far better chance to detect the US units) Hope this helps understanding the H3 GUI and the details of formation editing. Regards, Ralf Ralf, Okay, thanks. I'm getting it, slowly but surely. Quick question...once you have assigned a ship to a group can you change its initial position? If so, how? I can set up patrol zones easily enough, but sometimes I look at the formation and think, "No, I really want the destroyer HERE." But the only way I can move it to expel it from the group, use the Move command to change its position, and then add it back to the group again. Or is this how you are supposed to do it? Another question...about plotting a course. I noticed that when the game starts, the ships are not moving. That's okay...it sounds like the default for the game. (It sounds like you have to set up a Transit mission to get them to be moving when you start, if I'm understanding this right.) If you plot a course but do nothing else, does the plotted course remain (and so all you have to do is set speed and it will follow that course) for the player side? Thanks. Mark
March 13, 201115 yr Mark, Ralf, Okay, thanks. I'm getting it, slowly but surely. Yes, it takes time since H3 differs in many aspects from HC. That´s the way I know and how I do it. Once you have grouped them, assigned stations, you cannot reposition the units within. When you´ve expelled and re-added the unit, please check if the other unit´s station are still assigned properly. If you´ve set up a plotted course for a unit or group, it will follow this course. And If you´ve set up a speed for an AI controlled plotted mission for a unit or group, it should going with that speed on its course. Regards, Ralf
April 3, 201115 yr Mark, on your Q below, try this. Two ways of doing it: 1. after you have finished assigning ships to formation stations, move the whole group a few miles. This will move all ships to the PZ you just assigned them to 2. Exit the formation editor, create w new window around the group, look at unit display, and then change position of the ship you want to move. Sorry I haven't been posting much...busy with some projects and trying to get over a pinched nerve that makes typing painful. (Yes, that is about the worst thing that could happen to me...well, short of losing body parts, I suppose...). I'm still learning the scenario editor, relying mostly on the HUD3 database now (in part because I'm lazy...it runs more smoothly than some of the others...). I will eventually start posting more scenarios, but probably not for a few weeks. Thanks again for all your help. I'll be posting more questions as they come up. Mark
